Storm of War - General Announcement

[[ @ATAG moderators - I understand you might like to move, or remove this post. I figured I would post it here in the "other sims" section of your forum, given that it links to another server's page. Feel free to shift it, if you think it belongs elsewhere. ]]

Really nice. 56 sqn are really enjoying the 'Battle Of Britain' style missions ie formations of 18 bombers blowing the crap out of important military targets unless the Spits & Hurris can stop them. Better still, the Blue pilots are seeing the sense in escorting the bombers to make sure they get through while their light bombers take out the radar stations to make a hole in the chain home coverage so the RAF have less chance of seeing them coming until it is too late. Best of all is that we seem to have enough players now to populate both SoW and ATAG without either suffering!

Thanks, and as Roblex says it's nice to see that the community can support multiple servers at the same time. I've been blown away by the support we've had thus far, with over 300 players joining the server at some point in just over 5 days! It has made all the work over recent weeks worth it.

Using Firefox or chrome perchance MP??

I've made a mistake on the trailing slash. If you remove it then it will work. Apologies, it's one of those things that's on the "to fix" list that doesn't ever seem to make it to the top of the list!

    Edit:
Ah,. apologies. You might be referring to Phill's link? That's to the old forum. The new site is www.stormofwar.org

Re: Storm of War - General Announcement

The advanced SoW statistics are pure gold! You can track every single sortie with all details (incl. the amount and type of destroyed ground objects!), the statistic generates careers/streaks (if you did not make it home alive a new career will automatically begin). Simply beautiful!
I had a nice sortie with a squadron mate yesterday evening. But I have to fly much more to be able to comment on the missions. What I have seen so far is very promising!
Also not to forget: So far the server ran very stable and smoothly.

In short words: Thank you a lot for all your effort!!!

Got to be honest I love stats. Have said many times the stats they used to have on Warclouds were some of the most comprehensive I remember and i loved them. Being a lone pilot without a Squadron I see it's not an option for me to join at the moment...but the stats look great, will there be more as time progresses (like percentage hits from gunnery, pilot most shot down by you, pilot you were most shot down by, etc, etc)

    Love stats.

Stats also run for "lone wolfs". The registering for the squad is only needed to accumulate the stats of every single squad player to the squad stats.
At least that´s what i understood of all this stuff

Indeed, Skylon has the right of it. The Squadron thing is an "addon", simply a way of measuring squad's e-peen's

MP, there is the possibility of adding different stats. Originally we were recording the individual damaged items but it was a bit overwhelming on the detailed views, and at an aggregate level meaningless. We can certainly access the inbuilt bulletsfired and bulletshit metrics, but I'm not convinced how accurate they are. Major development on the stats has stopped for now, bug fixes notwithstanding now I have rewritten the processes to be less resource hungry for the website.

The major direction now is to look at developing the persistent environment we've talked about, and rolling out some of the gameplay elements which come alongside that like tying units to specific spawnbases, tracking plane numbers, dynamic AI raid spawning etc.

    P
    Hi MP,

The Squadron stats is a separate section, that reports on a squad-by-squad basis.
We want the Squadrons to be able to use the Squad stats as a marketing tool - you know - look how often we fly and how much damage we can do.. . kinda thing.

There is an entirely separate section of stats for individual (i.e. not a member of a squadron) pilots. This system is based on a "career" streak. That is, when you die, your career ends and those stats get archived. The "current career" is the one shown on the main pilot stats page.

    More detail about the individual pilot stats is in this video,starting at 33 seconds;

Re: Storm of War - General Announcement

Made a Tutorial Video earlier today; this is me conducting an RV with, and escorting a raid of JU88s in the "Thames and Medway" mission on SoW server.

I used the "friendly bomber finder" tool (tab-4-2) to locate the bombers and escort them.

    Video is 28 minutes long.

So guys, if you don't mind me asking when is best to hop on? what GMT times seem to be most active? BKHZ has registered as a squad on SoW, but didn't really have a chance to try it out yet properly.

There's not really a "best" time. The server has A.I. formations, so there is always something to hunt down - even if there aren't any other human players online.

The server is not as popular as ATAG, however you'll quite often see 15 to 20 human players during weeknights for the EU/ UK timezone. There are also quite a few Aussies/ Kiwis who jump on the server during their evenings.

Your best option is to team up with your squad-mate Basha and jump on when you happen to be online at the same time as each other. You'll find the server a lot more rewarding when you fly in small groups, rather than lone wolf stuff.

    Evening folk!
This all looks fantastic. Am I correct in assuming that the campaign has not started properly yet?
If so, how may I and my group involve ourselves? I have registered No. 504 (County of Nottingham) Squadron with you chaps and will poke our pilots into signing up also.

We also have one fellow with us whom is strictly non-flying personnel. Is there room for him in the Control Room for RDF? He has typically always navigated for me in the biplanes of RoF, as well as the aircraft of CloD and BoS - in short, he knows what's up.

    Cheers.

Correct the campaign itself has not started. The server is currently running public missions 24/7. However, all the features you see in the explanatory video are in use on the public server also.

We will be making sure that the campaign proper is announced, when it is ready to go.

Most certainly. We usually rotate the control-room duties, with each controller taking a 1-hour slot. this gives the team a chance to have a fly. So more interest is most welcome.

    Good morning Phil.
Thank you for your reply, I'll be sure to pass on the information to my non-flying friend later on today - he'll be most happy to hear this, especially the hour shifts.
