    He 111 H/P Bug Thread

Hallo liebe Freunde u.

Vorläufige Montage- und Betriebsanleitung He 111-H, Ausgabe 1939, Blatt Nr. 102:

Edit 12.11.2014: kleine redaktionelle Änderungen, u.a. Schreibfehler

Re: He 111 H/P Bug Thread

Once we have the Source Code it will take certainly a few months to get a good understanding of it. Once done we do intend to be considerably more active on the bugtracker which has always been a challenge to create fixes by reverse engineering the game engine.

Don't give up hope of seeing these issues fixed (if full evidence it is a true issues can be provided), we are keen to fix as much as we can as well as create new features.

    Cheers, MP

    Hallo DUI,

Ich will ja keinen vom Fliegen abhalten.

Sorry, I can only get so much from google translate. Are you stating that the non directional beacons and the Lorenz do not work?

If so, the NDB work great in CLOD and are in some MP missions: Raiders, London Ruft, and the spy mission to name a few. Unfortunately, the Lorenz does not work in MP and has limited range in SP. The bright side is that you can use the gauge as a distance meter to the non directional beacon to work in concert with the P/S needle on the magnetic compass.

Here is a SP demo thread on all of it that explains the inner workings of the beacons: http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.co...ead.php?t=8840

If I am way of base here, please disregard.

    Thanks for all the comments.

As attachments you will find 3 files (the single one was to big in size), which shows results from my former experiments.
    Something wrong here?

At the moment, I think, that Lorentz-beams are not working as expected (and as they should).

Yes, the Lorenz does not function very well at the moment. It only works in SP and not MP for some reason and has a very limited range. I have looked at the files and have tried to increase the range to no avail. It will take one of TF's better computer wizards then me to fix..who knows now that TF is getting the code.

As you will see in the mission I provide in the link in my previous post, I use the non directional beacons and airport beacons as a poor man's Lorenz. If the beacons are followed, the last beacon at the east end of the runway will have you lined up to land at Oye Plage. If you are in the right approach at the right height (I will have to verify again what these are) the SBA Hat will take over and give you a left/right reading. The inner and outer beacons also function, they have to remain on channel 380 and be passed over at the right height (Their range needs to be increased also)

If you play my second mission in the dark, you will see that once this takes over you are close enough to see the runway lights, which makes the Lorenz obsolete. With out fog and rain about the only thing to do would be to not have runway lights for blind conditions.

The last airport beacon at the east end of Oye is on channel 303, which is the same channel as the SBA Hat, this provides automatic switch over when close enough to the SBA Hat.
As I stated above, the inner and outer beacons must remain at the default 380.
The 110 can now change it's secondary radio channel, so at the very least you could get the distance from the beacon and I'm assuming, the Lorenz signal if close enough and put it on what ever channel you want to. This may work to get you over the runway, and once close, enough, activate the Lorenz, which seems to increase the range when done this way. You could then fly away from the airfield, turn around and have a functioning Lorenz.

So, for right now, I am using the NDBs as both beacons and a poor man's Lorenz and I am currently updating my single player mission demo that includes Ramsgate airfield destruction % just like the MP missions (thanks to ATAG_Freya!) I have successfully flown a mission in the dark and hit Ramsgate (8%) damage using only 2 NDB's in France to guide me to the target. I can then turn around and head back to France and land at Oye Plage without incident just by following the NDBs. I am working out what is the best speed/alt combination at the moment and will release it soon.

    I hope this helps.

Edit: I just did a quick test with a 110 in my first mission. The AFN-1 is like the ju-88, the distance meter rises from the bottom and closer to the middle the closer you get to the beacon. The Lorenz took over further away from the airfield then I was expecting (not far enough though) and got my lights from the inner and outer beacons.

Re: He 111 H/P Bug Thread

In true Lorenz "work", but or the instruments is uncalibrated or the the signal is too narrow. In short is useless.
You need much luck to pick the signal and a very steady flight to follow the signal, besides this lack the audible Morse code.

I wrote this back in 2013 in Banana's forum, but don't remember what about I am are talking, the pictures vanished.

Outer Marker is only detected if overflown at around 300 mts (~1000 foot) of altitude (350 don't work).
Inner Marker is only detected if overflown at around 200 mts (~660 foot) of altitude (250 don't work).

*AFN-1/2 instrument seems bugged to track NDB signal in homing mode.
Horizontal needle detect signal intensity as expected, but vertical needle swing crazy left/right.
    EUREKA!
Is just matter of keeping the "Course Autopilot Preset" equaled with "Directional Gyro" reading, using "Course Autopilot Adjust", so the AFN-1 needle is ably to track SBA Hat Antenna signal correctly.

If there is much variation between the two instruments, the AFN-1 needle goes "crazy".

Is not need engage Autopilot Mode 22 (probable make a automated "glide path"... dont know...), adjust "Course Autopilot Preset" to allow proper operation of AFN-1.

Thanks again for both comments and the mission.
I will try that in the evening.
I also do remember the previous discussions on different forums.

P.S.: If somebody is interessted in an Excel-based calculator for determinations of flight courses and times (night flight) with wind and magnetic influence, I will be glad to provide it.

Yes, I will add that file.
Please be a little bit patient, because I will write a small description. I do not know, how much of the German language is available.

I have attached a zip-file with the excel-calculator and a short explanation as a pdf.

I have tested that in the past (it works) and hopefully you can get something out of it.
Especially for night flights. Critics and questions are welcome.
