    Windows 10 & CLoD Experiences

I see some Windows 10 opinions appearing in different places throughout our forums. Since this is the starting place for many of us browsing the CLoD community, I invite anyone with good or bad Win 10/CLoD advice, experiences or facts to post them here. I will now submit my first question...

Some of us considering taking the plunge to Windows 10 want to protect our existing Win 7 installation by upgrading a second OS using the dual boot option.

QUESTION: Can I dual boot windows 7x64 Professional using the OEM disk I used to install my current OS? The hardware is obviously identical so do you think I may have a problem installing to a different drive in the same box? If possible, I will use my free upgrade on the minimal dual boot Win 7 installation, leaving my current system intact.

For backup protection I plan to Clone the current system to a different drive in case the boot sector gets corrupted.

This is a spinoff from Combat Wombat's Team Fusion June, 2015 thread:

Re: Windows 10 & CLoD Experiences

With previous Windows the basic procedure for dual boot - considering only one HDD - is install the old OS first and then the new.

The ideal scenery is have 2 HDD install one OS in each.

If you actual Windows 7 installation work OK, make a clone of then, so you can use in future any time with fast install.

I have tried this today and it did not go well with CoD, I had lots of lag and the sight reticule has just a yellow blob!
I have gone back to Windows 8.1.

Did you install the new Nivdia and/or amd drivers? Because it advises to install the drivers before you upgrade to 10

Re: Windows 10 & CLoD Experiences

    I've only been on win 10 for a day-I needed to re-install my LAN drivers from the motherboard disk to get a working internet connection. I thought, "Now that I've got that sorted, let's try ClOD". I launched steam no problem, but when I tried starting the game I got the following error message;

" the procedure entry point CreateDXGIFactory2 could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\d3d11.dll"

This appears after the first little "mod" gunsight.
The cache folder has been cleared. Any ideas on how to solve this?

    Same here.
My son lost the profiles on all of his games, Arma 3 etc, as well.

Oh, and for some reason COD would not open past the opening gunsite either, until i set my
search engine from the Windows 10 default of Bing, back to Chrome.
For some reason that allowed me to open COD again.

UPDATE: Today i cannot get COD to open. Once again the opening "MOD" symbol appears, but it just sits on top of the desktop, and will not open. I have to restart the computer to get rid of the symbol. If i try to open COD via the direct connect on the ATAG opening page, nothing at all happens.
Will uninstall and reinstall the game.

Re: Windows 10 & CLoD Experiences

I was able to figure out that my problem was caused by using InjectFX, the dlls are not compatible with DX12. I may need to find a version of InjectFX or SweetFX that works in win 10. I also had an issue with my controls, but the profile was not lost, the game just stopped seeing axes for the controllers until they were re-assigned in game, then they changed from "Joystick axis Y", for example, to "Joystick1 axis Y" with the number 1 now being assigned. Weird.
Otherwise the game seems to run OK, though I'm not yet noticing any big improvement in performance such as has been reported by others. Still early in the process.

Have you updated the gpu drivers?

I say this because nvidia experience just updated my gpu driver to one issued at the same time as win10 was released a couple of days ago and clod would not recognise any control inputs until I re applied them in options.
Also on opening a game in single player, upon pressing "fly", the screen jumps back to desktop and you have to press the clod button again on the taskbar.
And I'm still using windows 7!

    I'd appreciate any advice.
Usually i would not download such a change as an update to Windows 10 until a month or so after it came out, but i heard such glowing reports i suddenly decided to do it yesterday. At my age, i should not have to live and relearn! LOL....

Oddly enough all my game profiles stayed but unfortunately it swapped which devices were listed as joystick/joystick1/joystick2 (which it has also done again since a restart GRRR) so all my binds were useless. Is there any way just to change which device gets which designation or am I best off to just rebind everything?

Have you tried by chance running the redist files from the redist folder in you cliffs of dover game folder? I seem to remember this fixing a no start situation (thats assuming these files even work with win10) just thought I'd throw it out there, hate to see people unable to play at all.

Thanks for the suggestion Pheonix. Tried it , but to no avail.

Now at least i get the "first time setup" screen, but nothing after that.

I know for at least a couple games on steam I've had to make sure steam was open as admin in order for the games first time startup stuff to all work right, have you tried opening as admin or do you do that already?

I do not like Win 10's layout and screens so I am going back to Win 8.1.
I downloaded a new video driver and chipset, (Win 8.1) my old one's were over a year old and it's made a lot of difference to how the game looks.
I will get back to 10 later.

Thanks Phoenix, but tried your advice to no avail.
Still goes to the First Time Setup, and that's it.
It did load once, 2 days ago, but after restarting the computer it does not seem to recognize the game at all.
I'll call it quits for now, and try again at some point.

Re: Windows 10 & CLoD Experiences

    My experience so far:

Windows 10 installed without a problem.

I had to go straight and open NVIDIA Experience and download updated win 10 drivers.

All games and apps work fine.

Regarding ClOD - The game launched from the short-cut first time then would not re-launch after exit. So i opened Steam first as administrator (just in case) then launched ClOD from there. Worked fine. Now ClOD runs normally from desktop icon, from inside game, whichever.

After re-boot, steam needs to be open first before running the game.

All profile and ini settings are there, un-molested, all control settings are there too.

The PC runs faster than before. The game also seems a lot smoother, the shimmering effect we see is almost gone now and the sound sound seems improved (as ATAG_Pantast told me though, this IS perhaps the first time I have updated audio drivers in who knows how long).

    So far so good.

If you go directly from Windows 7 to 10, you must add 2 files (CloDer.exe & Cloer.dll) in the game folder and start the game from CloDer.exe. Otherwise launcher.exe won't work.

You can get them here, they were designed fo Windows 8. Choose 0.2.zip

They both have a lot more bloatware and invasiveware.

Asking to run something like CloD under windows 10 sounds to me like asking to run it on a Linux box under a windows emulator.
I exaggerate, but you get my point:
Don't be an early adopter unless you have professional reasons to be investigating a new OS.
By early adopter I mean the OS is less than two years after public release.

    Good Microsoft OS's: 98, 2000, XP, 7.
Bad Microsoft OS's: ME, Vista, 8, 10 (for at least two years).

Re: Windows 10 & CLoD Experiences

Since my Win7 install work OK and the STEAM installation in C have almost 100 GB, I did a test installing the WinX in a VHD (Virtual HD),
a previous tentative of install in a external USB HD fail, no support for install in USB or IE394...

After installed I only download the last AMD driver for Radeon HD7970.

As the WinX are a new installation and CloD (and il-2 BoS) are already installed none of the open before
install the Redist package (DotNet, VCRedist...DX9 for BoS), after their run.

    No need use CloDer.exe.

CloD in the first fly show the external view corrupted for camouflage, psychedelic and almost transparent,
but be redefining the Video options, setting the AMD driver options an copy the .INI configs from the other
My Documents installation work OK - but dont notice graphic improvement relative to Win7 installation.

Other games that I try are FarCry4, with noticeable graphics quality improvement, and supringly even the
ancient Battleground Europe work OK, with betters colors, as his "Nintendo32" graphics visual have no cure.

For some reason WinX give a inverted order for joystick and pedal ID - relative to Win7 - so was need reassign then in game options.

They're both harder to tweak (control panels are all over the place, and you HAVE to go to command line for some stuff (NETSH - yeesh))
For check the joystick I type joy.cpl in search/start bar, because find the shortcut is a pain.

Re: Windows 10 & CLoD Experiences

For me the upgrade to Windows 10 from 7 was painless. All files, programs and settings carried over without a hitch.

As for Cliff of Dover- No issues what so ever! As said by other in this thread, you MUST remover injectors such as SweetFX or InjectFX or you will face launcher crashes(game wont even start). Everything ingame feels so much smoother for me, including TrackIR. The only other issue I had was my rudder pedals axis had to be set back up.

Cliffs set-up- Logitec 3DPro joystick, Logitec G13 gamepad, Saitek Pro Flight rudder pedals, TrackIR 5 and 3 monitors. All settings carried over except for the rudder pedals.

Other programs that so far have worked without issue:
    Auto-CAD
    Corel Draw
    Photoshop
    Unreal Engine 4
    3ds Max
    Blender
    Mudbox

Cons that I have encountered (for me personally)
No Oculus support yet. They are working on it. This was kind of surprising considering the Microsoft and Oculus partnering.
Ads! Lots of ads for Windows Apps. Guess this was to be expected.

Over all I am happy with the upgrade. If you are on Windows 7 still I think its time to upgrade.

For all you S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fans: I also fired up Call of Pripyat. What a joy! Its xRay engine, so there is always going to be intermittent stutters, but it was SO much smoother than before. Tested with SGM 2.2 All-in-one mod.

Re: Windows 10 & CLoD Experiences

I have to say my upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 was pretty painless and every Steam and Origin game I've tried to launch so far have had no issues. CloD also seems to run fine and I'm getting the same 60fps on max settings as before on my gtx970.

Up to now, I'm pretty impressed with 10 and think it's a big improvement on 8.1. The only negative at the moment is that custom resolutions aren't working on nVidia but I'm sure (fingers crossed) they will address this on a new driver update.

Has anyone tried the Windows 10 game DVR yet? I'm curious to find out if it will work with Cliffs.
