Nice vid. Had to resist the urge to shout "break Grommit, he's on your tail mate" when he turned in behind that Hurricane on the runway

"A chap could bend a Spitfire with one finger" Wing Commander Tom Neil.

At 9:18 aprox. the pilot turns his head back and around looking for something, another plane in the show I guess. It's the first time I have the chance to watch a RL Messer pilot moving his head in the way a RL combat situation would probably force him to do it, fearing for a menacing enemy in the blind spot. It's chilling, to say the least, to imagine the situation in a frantic furball, with your heart-rate skyrocketing.

Reality is everything that happens when you run out of battery. But it also can be an alteration of the perception due to a forced lack of alcohol, though. Should both coincide in time, a plan B is compulsory to overcome a deadly overdose of reality.

Nice to hear good quality in-cockpit engine sound. Normally Youtube videos filemd ofmr incokcpit have distorted sound, or are recorded with mics that have low frequency range.
Despite the slightly different engine, this should be the benchmark for TF in-cockpit sounds.

From 4:25 or so, he taxis past and then takeoff next to the hurricane. The hurricane is completely inaudible over the 109 engine.

There is a great moment at 14:48 when we get some excellent evidence:
    1. A spitfire taxis past, but it can hardly (if at all) be heard over the 109 engine. This is with the side window open.
    2. Again a spitfire taxis past at 15:15, now the 109 engine is off, you can hear the spitfire engine now
    3. Then the side window closes, hear the massive change in the sound profile of that passing spitfire engine, but still audible

I think I read this in the Messerschmitt Group on facebook philstyle. Someone mentioned that the Daimler Benz 109s are loader than the Merlins externally . I have no idea about this myself because I've never been to an air show in my life sadly lol. I'm sure somebody on here must have been next to a DB 109 somewhere. What I do know for sure though is that the DB 109s are quieter in the cockpit than the Buchons because the stacks are down at your feet instead in front of your face

Digital audio recordings don't really come close to our human hearing, but still a good point there..

Sweet video, timbow! I liked seeing the pilot demonstrating 'all round awareness'.

Re: In cockpit footage of 109 G-4 from Biggin Hill 2015

    That was great

Two things stood out to me , just how cramped the cockpit is, it looked like he was sitting slightly skewed or his shoulders were rubbing on the sides, and the other was (12 mins) just how difficult it is to use the flaps wheel to put the flaps down for landing, that was a real chore, you could imagine trying to do that injured or when pulling any G's

By the way, was I the only Pratt trying to move my head around track IR style watching that!

    Ha! So was I!

I noticed with his body *slightly* skewed that he could look fully 180 degrees behind him. I confess I was surprised, since I figured the cramped cockpit (in all BoB fighters) would preclude that. Might've been different wearing heavy sweater/leather jacket and firmly strapped in. Now I know why BoB pilots were such skinny little guys! LOL

I think he was flying with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Hurricane and Spitfire. At least he was at RIAT this year (and lovely it sounds as well, I'll stick it up there with the P-51 sound wise )

In terms of noise, nothing beats this for finding out how loud a merlin is (I stood next to this while it was running at this country show)

The engine's overheating, and so am I! Either we stand down, or blow up! Now which do you want?

I flew Bulldogs at University (RAF university air squadron)

I flew this one (we had 5 on the squadron)

We wore a 5 point harness and parachute, so got a pretty good idea how much movement you'd have - not much, you can wiggle your shoulders, but that's pretty much it.

Also flew in an Extra 300 - straps very tight (but then again +-10G)

    Finkeren: from BOS site forum

Well, I went and saw the 109 fly today (great show BTW, last time I was at an air show was like 20 years ago - a lot has happened since)

Biggest take away about the Bf 109 is just how LOUD that Daimler-Benz is, especially when taxiing on the ground. You don't get the impression from watching videos from air shows, but it completely drowned out the Merlin powered Mustang and Spit

Re: In cockpit footage of 109 G-4 from Biggin Hill 2015

This is for sure the best 109 cockpit video I have ever seen, thanks for posting !

Like others were saying, great sound. Awesome to have 3 camera angles too, really gives you a feeling of what it must be like to actually be in the cockpit of that sweet bird.

Not many things louder than a high performance aircraft engine. A big mean V12 with pumping out almost 1500HP with absolutely no mufflers or pipes really of any kind.

    Beastly to say the least
