Make it easy for new players?

One of the most common problems faced by new players in Multiplayer is selecting and spawning. The opening page is very confusing, particularly selecting an alternative AC so would it be possible or feasible to consider:-

    a. Airspawns?

    b. Aircraft such as the Spitfire 1a 100 Oct or Rotol Hurricane as the default choice rather than the non CSP types?

    a) there are a few maps with airspawns (New Dawn Fades, Kanalkampf). It depends on the plans of the map maker.

    b) I´m afraid, but this is not under influence of the map maker, unless he decides to completely go without CSP types.

    But anyways: good ideas.

Air spawns do not change the fact that the opening screen is complicated for the new guys.
They will still need to go through the banner->map->plane process.

    Agree.

How about an extra paragraph at the bottom of each briefing, or maybe even better a link to a web page from there, explaining how to select field/plane/loadout?

The problem isn't that the info isn't already out there, the problem is directing the new pilots to it, imho. Good way to plug them into the forums at the same time.

My first instinct was that no-one reads the briefing but i agreed that this would be a very easy place for us to point new players to.

Any link to guides for engine management/take off procedure? Am new to Clod but have lots of hours in earlier IL2s.

Took me 10 minutes to work out how to start engine only to blow it up after take off : (

Daves idea is sound but replies on the user having the patience to read it. Vadrs idea allows us to refer people back to the help notes on the breifing without them having to leave the server. Both are valid ideas that could work very well together.

The latter post by badhooverdog also indicates that some people are finding it hard to navigate to the basic helpful information. Most, if not all, this information has been kindly put together by Lewis in his welcome post. Perhaps this should be paged and with a link on the briefing too.
