    level bombing without bomsight automation

    Hello,

Is there any table / calculator that I can read angle of releasing bombs? Is it possible to set this precisely on e.g. Ju-88?

I was just curious whether it would be possible to set this angle for particular altitude and speed and then release bombs manually as soons as target appears in the crosshair.

    Hi, b0czek.

The table/calculator I use is the ATAG Lotfe7 chart. It can be used to find home base and target altitudes, as well as your IAS (Indicated Air Speed) conversion to TAS (True Air Speed). I have the chart up on my second monitor for easy access.

You can manually drop with the Ju-88 and the He-111.

Using your Sight Distance keys, pan your crosshair all the way down until you see the inside arrow move from the 10 o'clock position to about the 5:30 position where the second arrow is pointing outward. The B.S.A. (Bomb Sight Automation) releases the payload when these two arrows come together. Make sure your Sight Velocity, Bomb Sight Altitude, and your target's altitude are as accurate as possible for the moment of release. Then, simply wait for the target to come into your crosshairs, then bombs away. This will release the first bomb on that spot, and the rest of your bombs will track past that target. To carpet bomb, just drop a second or two early.

If you still need help, send me a PM and I will jump online with you.

    Good luck, and have fun.

Don't forget to account for wind as well.

Try to avoid a strong crosswind. Instead, try to approach target either downwind or upwind and adjust your Bomb Sight Velocity accordingly.

e.g. If flying at 250 with a 10 mph tailwind, you would set BSV to 260 mph.

:O I didn't know someone actually used that!

Now I need someone to say they use the radar and I'll be completely happy

There is a chart right on top of the lofte sight in the 88. You can look at it from the pilots seat. 20160701134023_1.jpg

    I did a few quick tests using the 300 km/h IAS @ 5k @ 28 deg. I entered 400 km/h TAS, 4900 alt ( Le Havre @ 79 m) and 28 deg angle into the bombsight.

It got me in the neighborhood with my bombs, but very hard to be dead on with the alt and speed, so your tests may vary.

Doing this same test with automation, bombing a ~5k, the bombs dropped at ~26 degrees using the method in increasing/decreasing airspeed to stop the crosshairs from moving.

Edit: Did another test to try out a theory. I flew @ 5k @ 300 km/h. In the bombsight I entered 50 km/h for the TAS and 0 meters for the alt and 28 deg. I got the same result as before as speed and alt only matter if you are using the bombsight automation, so all that is needed is the angle in the bombsight. My bombs fell a tad short, so maybe 26 deg at 5k @ 300 km/h would be better as shown using the automation.
