Re: Earliest flight sim you played?

If the Atari counts; it was 2D bi-planes game. Many, many hours there. The first computer game was "Secret Weapons Of the Luftwaffe". My first online was RB1 on INN (that, too, was $2.00 an hour).

The "Warbirds" format is still my favorite! You could capture opponents airfields and push the off the map to win the campaign. Would love to see this format again!

    Found this 80's site, http://www.listal.com/list/evolution...ght-simulators.

Flash back immediately to the trusty Commodore 64 and it's 'quick' 45 minute cassette tape download times, with no guarantee of success at the end of said 45 minutes, and I am in nostalgia heaven!

So officially, mine is F15 Strike Eagle. The game I played the most in the early days - Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eosVhMLr1A

I'm keen to know how far back you go in your flight sim career.

    Cheers, Pattle

Sure you downloaded the demo? - I remember buying a gaming mag because the demo was on a cd. Man, that skittish P-39 take-off in the rain. Have been hooked on Il-2 ever since!

Sublogic flight simulator 1, on an AppleIIe 64K, circa around 1980.

The enemy aircraft was rendered as a single dot, irregardless of distance. Those were the days.

I'm pretty sure the earliest one I played was CFS 3. I honestly don't remember it that mch, I must've been between 5 and 8 when I played it. I mostly just did random stuff in the German aircraft - yes, even back then, I was a Bf-109 fanboy

Possibly warbirds for my first then moving on to European air war (would love another copy of this as my original disappeared during moving house) with all the patches and extra aircraft, Fighter squadron screaming demons over Europe, Jane's ww2 fighters and then onto IL2 . I'm sure there are a couple more I can't remember off the top of my head

well there was one at the gambling hall in the early 80ties with a helicopter, can t remember the name,
but BOB was the one that hooked me first.
Then came the CFS 1-3, and WoT where i was beta tester.
Tryed Rise of flight but did not become familiar,
same with BoS(still dont get it running properly)

Top Gun on NES. 1991 or so when I played it.

Pro Pilot 99 was my first sim though. Had a nice textbook manual.

Re: Earliest flight sim you played?

Great thread, like a walk down memory lane.

VERY first was the "Red Baron" WWI portion of Microsoft FS circa early 1980's. My mother worked at IBM, we had the very first PCs growing up.

Another one I remember from shortly after was JET. I think it modeled an F-16 or F-18, all wire frame graphics.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUQn77c9pH4

JETFIGHTER was the one I first started to put real time into.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jetfighter_(series)

Landing on the carrier for the first time was exhilarating.

Previous posters have hit the high points for me.

"Their Finest Hour" was the first WWII sim. Still the best manual of any flight sim EVER. Was like reading an interesting history book then playing it. Wish I still had some of those original boxes from those old floppy disk games.

    Red Baron from Sierra

    Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe

    F-15 Strike Eagle III

    Yeager's Air Combat

    F-117 Stealth Fighter II

    Falcon 3.0

    Aces of the Pacific

    Gunship (Apache sim from Microprose)

I didn't have rudder pedals, but I had the very first Thrustmaster joystick and throttle advertised in Computer Gaming World. Wish I still had them, would be a nostalgic collectors item.

    Cheers,

    Sn8ke_iis

It was either Red Baron or Lunar Lander.

Both would have been at the arcade when I was playing back then so which one came first is long forgotten.

Yes, IL-2 demo was "leaked" for download in August 2001, and many in Warbirds community are tuned with OM work - well followed at time by (now a kind of game blog) Combatsim.com.

Yup, I think it was "Red Baron II", and I was in the 5th? grade in school. I was also playing the civilian sim "Pro Pilot" around the same time, as a kid, and first learning about how airplanes work and how to fly them. It's what sparked my passion for aviation and WWII air combat history, hence the reason I am here today!
