    G'Day from Oz

    Greetings All

You guys at ATAG are awesome - no suck-up intended just a statement of my perception. Finally bit the bullet and installed Steam and CLoD after a coupla' mates who's opinion I respect kept raving on about it, and landed in a pile of poo. Yes I'm running W10. And where do I find more help than anywhere else on the web but here. So, Thanks!! I still haven't managed to to even spark the game up, but at least I have some options and something to DO instead of swear a lot.

A little about me - I've been obsessed with flight since I can remember, I knew how lift worked before I started school, made plastic models, joined air-cadets (made a coordinated turn in a glider first fly), flew control-line models (stunt [F2B], combat [FAI] and racing [various], Junior State Champion 1976 [not bragging just establishing SOME competence]. The feel through the handle is amazingly similar to flying a real aircraft unlike RC which I have also flown), then met a woman and did the marriage/mortgage/kids thing so no time for flying. After the divorce I flew a LOT of EAW, joined 78th vFG, transitioned to IL-2, 78th disbanded, a few of us started 13Sqn, then I met another woman (you'd think I'd have learned first time) and now after the divorce here I am trying to get CLoD running. Even though the ex and I get along fine, I'm thinking simming might be the better option.

So I've installed TS3 and currently following "If your game broke with Steam patch...". So once I get a bit of stick-time I hope to see you in the air

    S!

Hello Romaniac from good ol 'Blighty'.

Welcome to the community. The forum you seem acquainted with. It is a great source of information not only relating to CloD but many other things. A little later my friend ATAG_Lewis will post his official welcome. The tips and hints are well worth going through and will help you get up and running with this awesome sim. One thing that still amazes me is the friendly and helpful people you encounter here and the comradery that can be generated.

You already have TS3, so as long as you have managed to avoid the Steam apocalypse, fire up the sim, join TS and say hello and get stuck in on the ATAG Allies & Axis main server and have fun.

Hope to see you 'in the skies' very soon.

    ~S~

Welcome to the community and forums Romaniac...~S~

Checkout the 'Beginners Guide'...for info and tips...It will save you a heap of time in getting up to scratch.....and its a really fun learning curve anyway..

    Beginners Guide Link Here

    Windows Management Guide

Also try youtube for startup procedures on all the aircraft...

I recommend getting in the online server as soon as you can take off if that's ultimately where you'd like to fly...I flew single player for 30 minutes before I took the plunge...The ATAG online server is a great environment to learn and there's not really any damage you can do in there as a new player.....It is also mission based just with real players trying to foil your objectives...If you are concerned then pick an airstrip furthest from the front line (there always is one or two on every map) and get some alt before you go hunting...You'll get tagged a lot but there are tricks you learn out of pure desperation in those first few weeks that you'll be able to use later...I know cos I still use the same tricks I learned then too because they work...and never underestimate the stall to get you out of a tight fix...That sometimes works too...

TeamSpeak is optional but you'll learn a whole lot faster with it even if you say very little once you are on the server...You are quite welcome to just listen if you feel more comfortable with that....so you don't actually need a mic either...Try it and see!...

    Re: G'Day from Oz

Hey, great first post, Romaniac! I'm sure I can hear people chuckling all over Atag! You certainly had me going!

Yes, you have SO come to the right place for aviation fixes! We are all the same here..mad on aircraft (especially WWII!) a bit long in the teeth...old enough to know better....but all doing the stuff that's wrong because we love it! And that includes sitting at a computer flying a Spitfire! Awesome!

I know you are obviously 'a man of the world' but I'll just put my two pennies worth, in favour of the fairer...for that read.....more expensive sex! My wife's a 'star' where Atag and Cliff's of Dover are concerned and doesn't seem to mind that I spend far too many hours in the virtual skies. Now is that because I'm an ugly old bastard or because I cunningly customised my Spitfire 'in game' to include her name? Ha ha! I'll leave you to decide!

Anyway, good luck with getting the game up and running and we all look forward to 'winging up' with you very soon! Salute!

Hi, Roman -iac or should that be Romantic ?

I keep each Patch release in a seperate folder so i can still play old patches, plus have backups if something like the current Sneaky-RU update happens out of the blue.

    Re: G'Day from Oz

Thanks for your warm welcomes, I'm already feeling like part of the family

    Colander, you know it

Marlow, I reckon some mistakes are just too much fun to only make once And VERY astute customising your plane with your wife's name

Finally managed to re-install CLoD via Steam, copied to anther drive and patched to 4312 (run between patches) at 00:15 today. Need to do stuff today (RL!!! Grrr) so haven't even assigned controls yet *wipes a tear, warms up trigger finger*

Should have some time tonight with my Friday-night-rum. Hope to see you guys soon

    G'Day Romaniac,

Welcome to COD - there's a slowly increasing bunch of Aussies flying including a few from SEQLD - I'm a couple of hours drive west of Brissie. If you find Phat's post I've just listed some times when the ATAG server is reasonably busy - hope to see you online sometime soon.

    G'day m8,
Will keep an eye out for ya in our time zone. I'm just a lil south of Newcastle.
There are quite a few Aussies that fly CloD now. Good move getting onto TS. Wing up with others & have a blast (fly alone = die qwik).
    Cheers,
    Torian

The more you put in, the more you get out - unlike most marriages.

I suggest keeping your "cockpit" on open display in you living room. That way, if your ever tempted to dabble with the opposite sex again and they end up at yours (usually one of the main points of no return), the very presence of the gear should look after your best interests....

A picture of the TeamFusion Logo (or Lewis) in a heart shaped frame may not go amiss either......

You're RC prowess should see you well on the way to flying a bomber "backwards" (useful when your trying to be the pilot and rear gunner at the same time)

    See you in the server!!

    Welcome Romaniac,

Great see another Aussie on. I'm near Port Macquaire.

Just like most Aussies who flew during the Battle I'm the colonial flying with some outstanding Pommies.

There are my new sporting team mates. Some of which are on your welcome thread.

You are going to love the community.

    Cheers,

    Pattle
