Typical altitudes of bombing and battles?

Don't know about BoB. But beurling in his book tells that air battles usually starts from 20000ft and more

Since the RAF primary objective is intercept bombers, can consider their typical bombing altitude 12.000 ~15.000 feet.

Fighters on both sides come from above, 20.000 or more. When engaged in dogfight the altitude can end the minimum possible - like is common in flight games.
