    Veteran '46er. Excited noobie again.

Hey guys! Long time '46 player here but haven't flown in years now and after the Cliffs of Dover launch mess I kind of just got caught up in life, but seeing where this game's at now has me fiending to get back into it.

This is seriously the best community of anything on the web and I need you boys back in my life.

I've got a few questions here. Bare with me, I'm hoping for no "click the search button, you idiot." responses, haha.

Number one is computer. I blew my power supply in my old one and that's why I've been out for a while, but realistically it could barely even run '46 on max settings. So I'm thinking something along the lines of:

    i5 6600k
    GTX1070
    16gb DDR4

From what I've read this should do the trick, but very high frame rate is a personal requirement for me, so what do you guys think I can expect here with that set up? Or even if it is great, how long with it be great for?

Secondly, Battle of Stalingrad and Battle of Moscow. These are Cliffs of Dover quality simulations? Not those Birds of Prey kind of 'dumbed down' IL2 games? From watching YouTube videos they seem 100%, but I'd like to hear it from you guys who know this stuff.
If they are, can we be expecting more theatres in the near future like how the original IL2 did it? Get into The Pacific, the Med, Africa, Late War, all that fun stuff. Have the devs discussed this?

My blood's pumping pretty hard at the thought of getting back up there and making life hell for you Jerries again.

Thanks for reading, hope you guys can shed some light here!

Ha, use the search function you. Jk.

Welcome back, glad to read your excitement.

First off, those specs will be fine but if you want something that will bring you into the future for a long time and blow the FPS out the window, I'll list my specs. I can run CloD like a dream with everything maxed and down sampled by 2.5.

    i7 3820
    24 GB ram
    GTX 980Ti

My bottleneck is the CPU but it does well enough. I'd say with what you posted your GPU would be your weak link. The 1080ti is about to launch at around $1000 which I assume will drop the 980Ti by a buck fifty to around $600-700. Still pricey but will last you a long time... games are getting more and more detailed but more and more optimized at the same time. Again, my CPU scores a 5.5 and yours an 8 on CPU boss. I'd say if you are willing and can bump up your GPU a little if you are an FPS freak.

Second, BoS and Bom. I've only played a little but just like everything, it has its pro's and con's. If you have the money, I'd say get at least one, it is worth it and they are currently expanding to a new theater and have said they want to go else where in a video with Jason Williams. DCS, BoS/BoM, and CloD all are worth having IMO, they do different things for me, this is why I have a wife, a girlfriend, and a mistress.

Check out the TF area of the forum for news on CloD, we have the 5.0 patch in the pipeline which we will be going to Tobruk. New flyable aircraft, new lots of stuff.

Notice that from multiplayer point of view is better get BoS, the planes in BoM is more "under dog" and from other aspects BoM is just "more of the same".

Re: Veteran '46er. Excited noobie again.

Welcome to the community and forums MrSteven...~S~

Hi buddy....Many of us owld vets from '46 here and Hyperlobby back in the day...

If you are like me and don't feel the need to be upgrading all the time then a rig that will run CLOD will run CLOD forever as the updates from TeamFusion won't demand a better rig to run it ( I am right Buzz..aren't ?)...It is a ground breaking game and in a lot of ways is still the benchmark for diehard WW2 combat flight simmers like we....I actually bought a rig especially to fly CLOD (check my PC specs in my sig at bottom) when it was released as I had/have no eyes for any other game/sim...I am very glad I did and have not been disappointed either...The rig I bought 3 years ago will be a whole lot cheaper now...If my PC blew up tomorrow I would build the same rig today pretty much as it would be so much more value for money and I don't envisage any games coming out that I want at the moment.....

You have certainly come to the right place for PC specs to run CLOD...Many folks have their specs at the bottom of their sigs on their posts so you have a lot of homework to do....

Also...I am assuming you don't have a TrackIR if you came from '46....I never had one for '46 and never felt I needed one...not many of us did....BUT and its a big BUT I as many here would highly recommend getting a TrackIR (or alternative) for head tracking while you fly...Not necessarily to be competitive (and we have had vets here who are highly competitive without one) but for immersion....CLOD is very immersive already with its high end graphics and its FMs made by TF (TeamFusion) so its only natural to get a head tracker to up the immersion even further...TrackIRs are pricey...but there are cheaper versions in the form of EdTracker or DIY headtrackers which are just as good...and very cheap if you like soldering...

As with '46, CLOD comes into its own online...That's where the fun is to be had for amny of us...flying with your buddies helping you, you helping them, winging up with one or two or a whole squad, escorting bombers flown by your mates...It can be really great fun and very addictive...Check some of the vids on youtube for comradery...

    ================================================== =

Checkout the 'Beginners Guide'...for info and tips...It will save you a heap of time in getting up to scratch.....and its a really fun learning curve anyway..

    Beginners Guide Link Here

    Windows Management Guide

Also try youtube for startup procedures on all the aircraft...

I recommend getting in the online server as soon as you can take off if that's ultimately where you'd like to fly...I flew single player for 30 minutes before I took the plunge...The ATAG online server is a great environment to learn and there's not really any damage you can do in there as a new player.....It is also mission based just with real players trying to foil your objectives...If you are concerned then pick an airstrip furthest from the front line (there always is one or two on every map) and get some alt before you go hunting...You'll get tagged a lot but there are tricks you learn out of pure desperation in those first few weeks that you'll be able to use later...I know cos I still use the same tricks I learned then too because they work...and never underestimate the stall to get you out of a tight fix...That sometimes works too...

TeamSpeak is optional but you'll learn a whole lot faster with it even if you say very little once you are on the server...You are quite welcome to just listen if you feel more comfortable with that....so you don't actually need a mic either...Try it and see!...

    Firstly welcome

as ever it depends on what resolution you are planning to run the game at but assuming the answer to that is HD rather than 4k then that spec will give you frame rates in excess of what i get (similar spec but a 970 rather than 1070) which is around 100fps to 120fps. If you want to future proof a bit more if you think you might want to get an Occulus or somethng in future then maybe look at a CPU that has a higher single thread performance (refer to https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html) and of course the 1080 will be faster than a 1070....but what you are proposing will run clod superbly in HD.

Make sure your new 'pooter has an SSD for the operating system and for clod installation would be the other thing to say

    S!

Welcome! Very happy with GTX 970 here @ 2560 x 1080, paired with i7-6700. GTX 1070 should be way more than enuff GPU power if you are at HD res.

Hey guys thanks a lot for the replies!

I've got a daughter on the way in May so the beast rig might have to wait a little while, however a buddy of mine just built a new one and is going to give me his old one. It's a 2.8ghz i7 with a GTX 660ti and 16gb if RAM. I know it's not quite in the same league as the original one I mentioned but I should still be able to use this bad boy, eh?

Yes, that older computer should be fine... That is the minimum we recommend... just don't try to run high rez... stick to no higher than 1080... in fact might be better at 720. And you should have minimum SATA 7200 rpm hard drive.

You should run fine, I have the same except for a gtx 680 . I do not think our GPU is going to make much difference.
BOS / BOM /BOK is about same quality as COD , better in many ways, worse in others . More planes and maps, but smaller maps I might add. I think your rig will run it also

    Fantastic! Thanks guys!

If all goes right I'll be up in the sky next weekend. Truly cannot wait, I feel like an eight year old on Christmas Eve.

Thanks for all the info guys, everything is up and running. Frame rates are good for the most part except low over cities but I guess that's to be expected. Had an Ace in a Day today on the server so life's pretty good!
