Which ATAG Server missions are based on actual historic events?

Are there any ATAG missions that were actually real (performed in real life in WW2)?

Snapper edit: This is an excellent question which deserves its own thread, especially as it's posed by a forum member who is a student and conceivably studying this important period in history.

Re: Which ATAG Server missions are based on actual historic events?

    Hi

Whilst there are clearly some server missions that fall into the "what if" category (New Dawn Fades for instance) others I'm sure do have some basis in fact.

This forum http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.co...splay.php?f=75 will tell you what the designer had in mind a lot of the time.

The thing is, no server can really re-create the situations, numbers and environment need to truly recreate a certain day and a certain mission. Even if it could getting everyone to stick to the script would be impossible!

That said, it doesn't stop you, yourself, operating in any mission and recreating something "real" for yourself. There are lots of targets open to you to bomb or escort bomber to. For instance, you could read up on the job Blenheim reconnaissance did and agree with someone else to recce their raid. Or look at the job of early PRU spitfires in France. The beauty of many of the missions is that there is a lot of freedom for individual actions to be recreated. Sure it is the case that a lot of folk just want to dogfight and that's cool but there is nothing stopping you getting together with few others and putting on an co-ordinated mini raid with fighter escort (or decoy).

The best part of this is finding stuff out - google stuff, look at what squadrons did what read the online accounts and when one sets you imagination afire, get on line, look for a similar target and fire up some interest from your fellow players ( I for one will happily do something "bigger" if its offered - mainly cos I cant shoot fer turkey poo) -

2 group took its Blenheim's on actions against many daylight targets including ships during this period. And don't be fooled into thinking a blenni or 88 raid means certain death - if you get a few together, with escort AND a decent plan - you might be surprised at just what can be achieved over the life of a mission and just how "Real" it can feel.

Good luck with it - this is a good community and you'll soon find you who the real good guys are (you've already met Marlow and the Rag tags) - I'm quite sure that lot would be up for the occasional "big night" .

    Regards

    BOO

Now - firing up interest takes a bit of effort but that's part of the fun

Op. Steamworks and Op. Relinquish are made up by me and don't really have any historical element.

Well, I know that Operation Dynamo was real, because it was the evacuation from Dunkirk during the Invasion of Luxembourg...(Or the Battle of France)
