This is a common AMD/ATI thing, don't think anyone's found a fix for it.

    Re: HD 7970 problem.

CloD's AMD users need to band together and report this to AMD.

Flightsimmers are a small group to begin with so we have to get a lot of us reporting the issue for them to make any effort to give it a look.

Please, report this to AMD using their handy bug reporter here

    Laca,

I remember someone mentioned in 1c Forum (Banana's) a article in December issue of German magazine PC Games Hardware, about ATI Radeon issues, seems suggest use Radeon PRO to minimize these issues, not specific this "magic square".

    Re: HD 7970 problem.

Yes, I too have that yellow ring around my aircraft's FOV while flying over water. Tried many different video settings to no avail. It was gone for the version that was pre-official final patch (sorry can't remember the exact release number!). The final official patch brought it back, and the mod release hasn't corrected it, but then again I wasn't expecting it to. I hope subsequent Catalyst releases might catch it. I will send a bug report now that I know it's an AMD thingy. My card is the HD 6790, Catalyst 13.1.

It knocks back the immersion factor, but makes for a useful reference line while tracking bogeys.

    Cheers

    Very annoying & pity.

    Re: HD 7970 problem.

Just wanted to report I see these lines on my new 7950 HD.

The lines appear for me in the water only I believe. And I notice them the most north of France

Is this something Team Fusion can address ? Has anyone tried different video settings that might help ? (ie. is it there with vsync off, etc.. ?)

Thanks for the great sim work!

Yes - I always try to tell everyone I know to always go with nvidia. Remember how long it took for ATI to work properly in the original IL2? Years!

    Re: HD 7970 problem.

Also have myself a sexy 7970, also having these problems.

Slightly tedious but since I spend more time flying and looking around for contacts I barely even notice. The card allows me to actually play this game and many other games on ultra settings, so I can't tell this card that it's a problem child.

Hmm, though if I try to overclock it I lose stability in this game I think.

Just buy Nvidia and never look back. I have never had a nvidia card issue ever. I owned an ATI card and hated it. Nvidia just always seems to work with every game while ATI works with every game 95% of the time. Less driver hassles. Less problems. And especially for Cliffs, stay with Nvidia if you can.

    Re: HD 7970 problem.

Grr, don't hate AMD cards. They're great cards. My voltage-unlocked 7970, with 3 Gb of VRAM, cost me €302. The Nvidia equivalent, which is the GTX 770, at the time costed €400+ for the version with 4 Gb of VRAM. For gaming at 1080p, 3 Gb is perfect, 2 Gb means that you might hit a VRAM bottleneck in the most demanding games and 4 Gb is overkill (unless you're going SLI/Crossfire). Overall, the 7970 was a better deal and indeed, it's a great card. Literally the only problem I have with it is that the AMD drivers mean that I get the LOD lines in Clod. That's the ONLY problem with this card. Other than that, it's a seriously good card for its cost. This is especially due to the fact that 7970s and 770s are the go-to cards for ultra settings at 1080p and that 3 Gb of VRAM is the perfect amount for that resolution. So the 7970 gets a very slight edge.

Under that, you have the R9 270 dueling with the GTX 660; both cards are almost exactly identical in performance and price. R9 270X is a bit better than those two.

The GTX 760 used to duel with the 7950 but I'm not sure they make the latter anymore. Now it's kind of in its own tier, alone. It's better than the R9 270 or the GTX 660 but it's not as good as the 7970/R9 280X. 7950 didn't get rebranded.

On top of that, you have the GTX 780 which is now sitting in its own tier, because the R9 290 is a notch stronger than it. The R9 290 had problems at release in that it was a blazing fast card but it was also a blazing hot/loud card (though some say that it can be lived with). Now that you have GPU manufacturers making their own cards with custom PCBs and heatsinks (AMD decided to give a great card a very shitty heatsink, for some reason), you've got astonishing performance from the 290 without the noise problem or a card that was running at 95°C.

Then you have the R9 290X and the 780 Ti which are dueling for top spot; I think the 780 Ti has a slight edge here in terms of raw performance but it comes down to which one is priced better when you're buying the card, as it always should when buying a GPU. If the 770 had been closer in terms of price to the 7970 I might have opted for that card instead. But a better deal is a better deal so I went with AMD. Even at the moment, I can find a 280X with a decent cooler at a better price than the GTX 770:

    http://www.amazon.fr/MSI-GAMING-Grap...ywords=R9+280X

    http://www.amazon.fr/MSI-N770-4GD5-O...ywords=gtx+770

^Probably due to the fact that 4 Gb of VRAM is more expensive to manufacture than 3 Gb, but since I don't need that last Gb...

OK, OK, enough of that. :p

I don't know if you have the LOD lines with the 290/290(X). Given that, unless I'm mistaken, the R9 series cards use the same drivers as the 7xxx series, I'm going to be inclined to say that you DO have the LOD line problems with the AMD cards. So if you're buying a GPU to play this game at the price range of the 290 series, it might be better to look at a GTX 780, which got its priced bumped down recently.

The 290X is better than the 290 in terms of performance but not by that much, it's been established that the R9 290 is a more cost-efficient card to get. However this was when R9 290s were selling at $400 (which is indeed an amazing price), due to bitcoin miners, the demands of 290 series cards has exploded and the prices have gone up ($520 on newegg). If you ARE going to buy a 290 series card anyway (I think that outside of the USA prices have remained stable), I would probably recommend a 290 series card with a custom cooler, though those aren't out yet, so sit tight until then, it'll probably be worth it:

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/7601/s...m-cooled-290/3

Go for brands like Sapphire, Gigabyte, ASUS or MSI.

    I don't hate them

I just know a whole bunch of people throughout the years that have had issues with them. And when I mean issues, I'm not talking the card died, I'm talking the card didn't work well with X,Y,Z game. But, on the flip side, I've never heard the same about nvidia for X,Y,Z game. It's just like when the original IL2 came out, it took several years before ATI worked right with the sim. And now, look again, ATI has this strange blue line issue, that nvidia does not have. I agree on the price point and all that jazz, but nvidia just always seems to work with every game, while ATI has issues with a very small percentage of games. That's all I'm saying

Sadly it does. but the performance is great r9 280x owner here..
TBH now is a matter of performance per $ spent. Sure thing in some older games Nvidia has better performance than ATI cards, but in new ones that run dx11+ You get more for Your cash with ATI. Nvidia is bit overpriced and in most times offer less vram than the red team at the same price shelve.
My r9 is a gigabyte rev 2 version which OCs just a little bit...maybe in the future they will unlock voltage, now I can run 1150 core 1660 memory, ClOD runs really smooth with rare dips below 60 (vsync on) Hawkinge with medium clouds and flak get around 55+ never lower and im running with everything maxed out (no AA)
THis one bug with CloD sure is annoying but I can live with it as I got more for same price comparing to Nvidia products...
And trust me I would buy nvidia if they would offer something similar in performance for such price (1350 pln/320 euros before xmass)

yeah dw, i'd probably be inclined to agree with you had i been around in the hardware scene for longer than now. tbh AMD seems to like screwing up the little things, even today. look how they botched the 290 series card release with bad cooling and whatnot. also talking about mantle etc, it's still not working. then you have things like bulldozer (very botched CPU release).

AMD have some good stuff but it needs to be sorted out from some of the bad stuff they have. unlike nvidia for GPUs and unlike intel for CPUs.

so really, your statement of "go with nvidia" isn't ill-founded at all, i even agree with you now that i think about it ; you can blindly put faith in an nvidia card or intel CPU, same can't be said for AMD products. however they're great value. ;D

Thank You, but Id like to still have AMD card. Im loyal customer . BTW. I have 7970 - performance & SMAA is great with this GPU:
