Team Fusion March 27th 2014 Update - A small hotfix on the way

No seriously, this really is a small hotfix! I know we said that about v4.01, which ballooned into the huge v4.3 but this is really as described, "a small hotfix".

Looking at a few of the reports on the forums, it became obvious that Pilot Kills really were excessively high in comparison to v4.0 and so the reasons for this were examined. A typo was found in the shrapnel code that was modified for the flak changes that was affecting HE rounds. Now that this was corrected, the HE cannon rounds will behave as they did before the v4.3 patch.

Along with that fix comes a few other changes which will be detailed in the small hotfix release readme which will be released at the same time.

Team Fusion had been hoping to be partying in Bermuda by now, but decided that the hotfix was more vital than us having any rest....so please watch the forums for news on this small update patch in the next few days.

Thanks for your understanding. We try to be perfect but sometimes, we like to act like mortals too so we remember what it was like Download pictures

    Cheers, TF

OK, so when you say "the [20 mm] HE rounds will behave as they did before the 4.3 patch" do you mean that the blast and fragmentation effects have been found to have been correctly modeled in 4.0, or do you just mean that whatever was going on in 4.0 (right or wrong) has been restored?

I ask that for two reasons. Firstly, because I've asked questions before about the behaviour of the MGFF HE rounds and not received a response. And secondly, given that the Luftwaffe had 20 mm HE and the RAF didn't, to my way of thinking at least, it only stands to reason that RAF pilots would be more likely than their Luftwaffe counterparts to suffer PKs. Now I believe that 20 mm blast and fragmentation are modeled when it comes to aircraft surfaces, but have they been modeled when it comes to pilots?

Re: Team Fusion March 27th 2014 Update - A small hotfix on the way

Many thx for the great work.
It has already been point out b4, but if after this hotfix there will be a long time without any pathes, it is may be usefull to create a single patch that turn the vanilla to 4.31 (or whatever you will call it).
I am just thinking at new players who could be confused or lost to load and apply 4 or 5 patches in a row
However I have no idea if creating that is a big deal or not...

I'm sure someone with a greater knowledge about the exact fix will pop along at some point....once they wake up in their timezone

Until someone else chips in, Wulf you asked "that whatever was going on in 4.0 (right or wrong) has been restored"

I think this is the situation

The 20mm HE rounds are modelled exactly the same in TF4.0 and in TF4.3, but a code error in TF4.3 made them much more likely to kill the pilot. We made countless internal tests to confirm this and narrow down the cause.
Please note that the code error did not make the HE rounds any stronger when it came to inflict structural damage, just PK's.

It was very possible to get the pilot in TF4.0, especially with AP rounds but also HE, at a level we believe to be realistic and soon restored

    Cheers/m

Thanks MP and Mattias for your replies. Now I don't wish to go on about this but can you just confirm that a 20 mm HE round is capable of killing a pilot in the game without scoring a direct hit on him. For example, if a 20 mm HE round detonated on a Spitfire instrument panel, would that likely kill the pilot?

the 20mm german gun must be modded because its tooo much explosieve !!!...

OMG. nobody see that youtube video where they test the guns at "plane-aluminium" formed wing and see that different destructions !?!?!?

the 20mm what it is NOW in the TF 4.3 is much more realistic and historical as before !!!

so something comes also to my mind if i lissend something like "must" moddified about some better effects...

think there are many other things in that sim what have to be moddiefied...

If the round explodes near the pilot there is a possibility of the pilot getting injured. Killed is not the only option available

Thanks for explaining the cause and effect of this issue. Looking forward to the fix.

If you're someone who believes a fix isn't necessary have a look at the stats generated from the Battle of Britain.

I don't suppose, a weeeny little ask, but could you also include the fix for the texture used by sandbag walls which was fine in 4.0, but in 4.3 was replaced by a hedgerow. I understand that this was apparently used in order to try and get hedgerows working but unfortunately now all of the shiny missions people have made which include a nicely laid out gun emplacement have the gun crews operating from the safety of......a hedge

I image this is a texture replacement??

    Many thanks.
