The bomber controls will soon be edited to include the proper keys for wind adjustment. I am currently learning the effects of wind on bomb drops from various altitudes, as well as proper use of the wind triangle for course setting. I have a pretty good grasp on level bombing from 20,000 with a Blenheim, but I want to be perfect at it.

It's great to see all of these new bombers starting to fill ATAG's skies.

Good work, Allied and Axis Bombers. This sim gets better every day.

Cheers, All.

Good OP .... it's certainly a good thing for the sim to see more human flown bombers in the skies, some occasionally complete with human gunners too and an increasing number of fighter pilots willing to fly escort ....

Escorting missions, if this trend continues [we all hope it does surely] will, in my opinion lead to some of the most immersive and involved dogfighting opportunities. Helping get the bomber pilot and crew onto target and safely off is hugely rewarding but there is a learning curve to climb [like anything worth doing!]

We all experience the sense of achievement of engaging with or being engaged by an opposing pilot and coming out surviving the encounter and perhaps scoring the kill. Next time, the outcome could be different! We all know that! Even when a small wing is formed [flying with a wingman is vital!] the sense of controlling ones airspace is very much the reward of flying and the incentive to do it again.

With the escorting of bombers becoming more and more popular, I think this scenario will serve up even more reward, satisfaction and fun-factor.
Including the fact of surviving the encounter and perhaps adding to your score, an escorting pilot will share a measure of the success of the bomber pilots primary goal .... taking out the ground target ... something less likely to be achieved when unprotected.

The escorting pilot will likely have radio'd appreciation from the bomber pilot too. "..... Cheers <callsign> ... we're good now .. Thanks for the escort ... much appreciated ....you are free to break off escort and <go and have some fun> ...."

There is the implied acknowledgement from the bomber pilot that flying escort may not always be the most existing in terms of action, yet, they highly appreciate the company, protection and added security.

It's a nice feeling to know you've added value!

If this can develop on a public server [as it is in it's own way], the future bodes well for it becoming a more established flying experience that enhances the popularity and growth of this hobby we all enjoy and love.

And let's not forget the potential experiences for the attacking fighter ... much more challenging and worthwhile!

So the next time you're jumping into your fast mover, pop onto comms and offer an escort to any bombers also on comms and warming up ....

This concludes my message and we now return to normal programming!

It is not as easy as it looks is it? Several times I have set out with anything up to four escorting fighters and still been shot down by a single 109 before anyone got near him. Personally I find that the best thing a fighter escort can do is 'Sweep' ie go ahead and distract any enemy fighters on the route before they see the bombers (though it also helps to have someone stay back a few thosand feet higher just in vis range and look out for enemies sneaking in from behind)

The mistake many escorts make is to fly very close co-alt or, even worse, get over-excited and pass the bomber so that when a 109 dives in from behind the escort has no way to get back and on the 109s six before the damage has been done.
