View Full Version : Huninthesun campaigns updated for 4.3

I've posted updated versions of my 3 single player RAF campaigns over at airwarfare.com. AI skill levels have been adjusted to (hopefully) avoid mass lawndarting, and I've added some of the new static objects so these updated campaigns will not work with any game version prior to patch 4. The original versions of the campaigns are still available on airwarfare.com for anyone playing patch 3 or earlier. I've also posted updates for the Aug 12th 4-mission pack in the Single Player Missions section.

Congrats to Team Fusion for the huge improvements they have made to this game!

Can I just say SUPERB been playing this all morning a big thank you to you and super instructions on how to get it onto the game if only all were like this for us computer idiots.

Many Thanks again

This is great. Tried your spitfire campaign before and loved it, except for the fact that the interception of massed bomber flights brought my pretty half-descent system to a slideshow.

Is it still as power hungry as before?

I have an i5 3.4 and a GTX 660 ti with 8gb ram.

Hi Zionid
I did trim aircraft numbers on a couple of missions across the 3 campaigns, but only a couple. I have a similar spec machine (i5-2500, 16Gb RAM, R290, SSD) and it just makes it through some of those bomber intercepts without stalling. I haven't played many of the missions under 4.312 yet myself - I've fast forwarded through all of them on autopilot to make sure nothing drastic goes wrong but not yet had time to play the campaigns through. My initial impressions are that 4.312 does not decrease frame rates but if I encounter any slideshow sequences I'll revise the missions.

I have also thought about creating a "lite" version of the campaigns with many fewer aircraft in the busy missions. That's something I'll look into after I run through the full campaigns.

Alright. Nice to hear. Your doing a great job with these. I find these to be better in many ways than the Desastersoft campaings.

Regarding FPS, I remember one of the missions had some 3+ RAF squads attacking 3 or 4 waves of bombers WITH escort in heavy clouds:) Looked like any simfans dream, but slowed quite a bit as stated. As the dogfight dissolved abit, it picked itslelf up though.

I also love that you fly low rank, as the horrible wingmen commands/following etc is not that much of an issue.

Do some testing and see what you find out:)

Happy hunting!

Hi, this didn't work for me with Win 8.1. The Huninthesun title appears on the single player menu, but nothing happens when I click on it.

Hi MarcSC
I've no experience with Windows 8 but I can't imagine there is anything specific to it that would stop the campaign from working. So its probably just a case of not all the files being copied from the zip download to the game folder. The fact that the campaign is listed in the menu tells me that the xml file has been copied to the AddIns folder (under c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover)
If you then look in the "parts" folder you should see:
a folder called "huninthesun"; in this folder you should see:
a folder called "mission" and two DLL files RAFCampaign.DLL and RAFCampaignMission.DLL; under the mission folder you should see:
a campaign folder; under the campaign folder you should see:
a file called campaigns.ini and three folders named for each of the campaigns and each containing a bunch of files.

From your description it sounds like either the DLLs are missing or the campaigns.ini file.

Hi, this didn't work for me with Win 8.1. The Huninthesun title appears on the single player menu, but nothing happens when I click on it.

Hmm, this sounds eerily similar to what happens to me on Windows 8.1 when trying to install this campaign:

http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10314
I have been pulling my hair out over trying to get that one to run.

I get the campaign title, but nothing happens when I click on it.

I don't have time right now, but will give this one a try when I get a chance and see if the same thing happens to me with it.

Thanks for the updated campaign Hun, as a SP always great to see these!

Regarding the installation problems, I've done some tests. I can replicate the problem reported by MarkSC where the Huninthesun campaigns entry appears in the Single Player menu but nothing at all happens when you click on that menu item. This happens when the game cannot find the DLLs that should be in the huninthesun folder under C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\parts
So perhaps the huninthesun folder is missing, or its present but the two DLLs (rafcampgaign.dll and rafcampaignmission.dll) are missing.

Note that some campaigns ask you to install their folders under C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\parts\bob - those campaigns tag on to the existing folder structure for the built in campaigns. My campaigns use the same mechanism as e.g. Desastersoft. So if you have installed Desastersoft's campaigns you should find their Desastersoft folder under C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover\parts, and the huninthesun folder should be there too.

I had the exact same problem in Windows 7 64 , click on the Hun campaign in single player
and nothing happened.
So I went back and very carefully read the instructions and my problem was I hadn't opened
one of the sub folders and copy and pasted what was inside , I just copied the whole sub folder.
Once this was corrected it started up and ran fine.

Looks like it's going to be a very good campaign too

Ok finally got a chance to try installing this one.

I am pleased to report, running Windows 8.1 64 bit, this campaign installed and is working properly for me!

Don't now why the heck I can not get that other one to work, but I was very pleased to see this one is working just fine for me!

I enjoyed flying this one originally, after some updates I started having some trouble with it so stopped, really looking forward to having a go with this updated version now!! Great timing, as I had just recently finished the Malta campaign.

Many thanks for your contribution and efforts here Hun!!

Mark,

Fwiw, I extracted the zip file into the directory as instructed - parts-bob-mission-campaign
Then I edited the campaign.ini as instructed

I then added the new folder 32_Squadron in my 1cSoftClub-IL-2 Cliffs of Dover Mod folder.

I have posted "lite" versions of the RAF SP campaigns to airwarfare.com: in the bomber intercept missions the number of AI aircraft have been reduced and hopefully this will help to alleviate performance issues. The "lite" versions install alongside the full original versions. In fact the installation includes the 3 full campaigns and the 3 lite versions so anyone who has not yet installed the full versions can use this to get both full and lite. For anyone already playing through the full versions, the installation will not mess up your progress so it's safe to install to add the lite versions.

I have tried to simplify the installation procedure. It is described in detail in the doc that is included in the download file but essentially you just need to copy the entire contents of the downloaded zip file onto the Steam\steamapps\common folder and it will merge into the "il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover" folder. This will generate some prompts from Windows about folder and file replacement - this is described fully in the installation instructions.

Hi!

Windows 7 64 here but I had the same problem. Just in case, this is how I fixed it:

-Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover\parts\huninthesun

-Right click on RAFCampaign.dll.

-Go to properties and, at the bottom of the window, "unlock" the file.

-The same with the RAFCampaignMission.dll file.

Sorry if the instructions are not precise enough, I'm using Windows in spanish:sorry:

Good luck!

Thank you, thank you - you are a genius!

While I did not have trouble with this campaign, I was having this problem with the CFS1 campaign I had downloaded and had tried just about everything. I saw this post, so I went back in and installed it again, then right clicked on the dll file, and sure enough it was set to block it as it was downloaded from an unknown source, I unblocked it and now the campaign works!

Thanks so much,

I've found a bug in the very first mission of the 111 Squadron campaigns. On my PC it causes the game to freeze forever and it has to be killed with Task Manager. I've tracked it down to a bad train - another steam engine problem! I've removed the train from the mission file and the corrected mission files (400710.mis) are attached here. The attachment contains corrected mission files for all 3 versions of the campaign - the original non-TFM versions, and the TFM4 "full" and "lite" versions. The files are in the correct folders and to install you just need to copy the "il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover" folder from the attached zip over that same folder under steam\steamapps\common on your PC. Windows will prompt you to confirm that you want to copy and replace the existing files. If you are comfortable with Windows Explorer you can of course just drill down into the zip and copy over the individual files to the campaign folders. Sorry about the bug, I usually decorate the missions with statics and trains etc. after playing it through and I wasn't expecting any trouble. On my PC the freeze occurs just as 111 are about to cross the coast near Lympne - this coincides with the train reaching the end of the line.

I am a little confused.

Looking in the new download, I have three folders under huninthesun/mission/campaign
These are HITS4TFM_Hurri_111s, HITS4TFM_LITE_Hurri_111s, and RAFCampaign_Hurri_111s

However under my Cliffs install, under huninthesun/mission/campaign, I have:
RAFCampaign_Hurri_32S, and RAFCampaign_Spit_74s.

Mine do not seem to match up?

Duh, never mind, apparently I did not have the 111 squadron campaign installed - I had the 32 and 74.

Some days I just feel really stupid!

That is ok though, now I have grabbed the 111 as well.

Hmm, ok well the readme for the 111 campaign states it is not compatible with TF4?

I've found some more problems with some missions in the 111 Squadron campaign where the game may crash completely. It seems to be caused by bombs exploding amongst statics (vehicles and aircraft) that are too close together. I'm not sure everyone will experience it because it may depend on the settings in use. The first occurrence is on the August 12th mission when 111 intercept 3 flights of JU88 attacking Hawkinge: as the squadron attacks the first flight, the bombs of the second flight impact and the game crashes. If you have played through that mission OK then you may not need this patch. Later in the campaign I came across the same issue with raids on Croydon and Eastchurch. I have resolved the problem by removing a couple of static objects from the affected missions and the updated mission files are in the attached zip. To install, just copy the il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover folder from the zip over the same folder under Steam\steamapps\common on your PC. Windows will prompt you to replace the existing mission files. I've provided updates for the full and lite TFM4 versions and for the TFM3 or earlier version of the campaign. My testing was on the full missions for TFM4.
I'm going to report this as a bug but I think its been in the game since the beginning. I remember, now, encountering it when creating the very first mission in the 32 Sq campaign a few years back. On the 111 campaign I added in the extra static objects just so that they would get blown up and burn nicely.
So my apologies to anyone who has experienced this same problem, I hope the patch will resolve it for you too.

Hun,

Don't know if this is worth checking into or not, just fyi, you might want to have a look at Mission #11 in the 32 Squadron Campaign.

When I got to mission #11 and to the briefing screen, I only had a " Plane" button, did not have a " Fly" button. I clicked on the plane button and then exited, I was then able to select Fly from the menu screen, but did not have a cockpit view, only external view of the plane sitting in the pen...

I retried it a couple of times with the same effect, I ended up ending the mission and clicking next to go on to mission 12.

I really enjoyed the campaign regardless, thanks so much for all you do for us single players! I am now on the 111 squadron Hurri campaign, and really enjoying it as well!

Btw, these are the campaigns modified for TF4.

Thanks for the heads up re mission #11 Don and apologies to everyone for the mistake. I've attached a zip with the fix for the mission file - there was just one line missing but it was crucial. This only affected the TFM versions, not the original 32 Squadron campaign.

Good to hear that folk are enjoying these campaigns. I've now started on campaigns for the 109 and 110 - I'm taking shortcuts by using these RAF missions and just switching the SP pilot over to the Luftwaffe. When done, the 109 campaign should be around 55 missions and the 110 campaign around 30. I am coming across some issues on bomber and escort behaviour that I think are post-patch features and doing some rejigging. These issues are present in the RAF campaigns too but are not very obvious when flying on the RAF side. When I've done the 109/110 campaigns I will retrofit the tweaks into the RAF campaigns.

I am so loving the 111 Squadron Hurri Campaign.

Flying the Wellington Escort Mission at sunrise, took me a couple of tries to figure out, the first couple of inbound 109's are a diversion, I and my wingmen were getting tangled up with them while the Wellingtons continued on course only to be surprised by 4 -110's - by the time we could get to them, it was too late.

This time, I let the wingies deal with the 109's and I stuck with the Wellingtons, and this time - they made it to base safely!

On flight out to meet them:

And of course, as is typical I always get landing denied - reckon I pissed of the controller for some reason, he seems to have it in for me lol. And as always, landed safely back at Manston.

Fantastic mission and campaign!

Thanks Don but I can claim little credit - all I did was set the mission time; lighting and weather effects are courtesy of Team Fusion! Most of the 111 campaign missions are based on actual events but I added a few fictitious missions like this to fill in the timeline and a few of those I set at dawn just because the visuals are so good.

The next mission after this is the one on August 8th, Convoy Peewit. This has the best use of clouds I've come across so far in the game, with a dense bank of clouds over the convoy. If you can get past the 109s you will be chasing the Stukas in and out of the clouds. Again, no credit to me, I just set the general cloud cover for the mission and somehow magically the densest clouds appear in exactly the best spot.

However seems I somehow missed the Stukas, saw a report of them in sector so and so, by the time I got there was still a bunch of 109's - pretty sure they high tailed it home lol.
We landed back safely at Croyden, however I clicked on restart rather than next - going to give this one another go as I really liked it, and I want another shot at the Stukas!

Hi Hun
Loving your SP campaigns for TF4.3.

However, keep getting the same dreaded ctd in the 32 Squadron campaign evening mission #8 right after the 'tally ho' call on spotting the enemy aircraft.

Take off, assemble and climb no problem but as soon as the leader reports contacts etc I get a blasted ctd with no option but to escape out.
Repeats every time, no matter what i try, so was wondering if it is a similar prob with the earlier static objects in the 111 campaign. Anyone else had this?

I have applied the other two 111 squadron updates in anticipation of flying that next but wanted to complete the 32 'tour' first.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your great work!

Hi Slot,

That is the mission with the attack on Croydon, which is also in the 111 campaign and had the ctd problem. It's almost certainly the same issue, I'll investigate and post an update here if I can reproduce the problem and resolve it.

I couldn't reproduce the CTD that Slot reported in mission #8 of the 32 Squadron campaign but I suspect it is the same issue that affected the 111 campaign mission and I've therefore removed some of the statics at Croydon. Hope this resolves the issue. Attached are updated mission files for the full and Lite versions of the 32 Squadron campaigns.

Just to let you know, I played the first two BF109 missions. No problems downloading or running. Great missions so far. FYI-my settings are on high. 4.3 TFF. I have an I7 3.4 to 4.1, 16g kingston hyper, and twin evga 760 GTX SC ACX SLI. No problems with temps. Missions and machines run as strong as a 109. As above, sun is strong. I didn't realise AirWarfare was defunct, what a shame. I've now posted my campaigns to the Download section here on ATAG. It is a single download but contains both the original 3 RAF campaigns (each in full and Lite versions) and the Harder versions of the (lite) RAF campaigns along with the 109 and 110 LW campaigns. All the patches have been applied. All of these campaigns require the TFM 4 mod. The original RAF campaigns for the unmodded game are actually also included in the download but you would need to manually edit the campaigns.ini file to enable them.

The only problem I have is I can't track any of it. I can still see the replays from TF no problem but in HITS I just see the sea.

Hello all,

I still cannot find the 4.3 updated version that is supposed to be in the ATAG downloads section.

All I see is the version for 4.

Thank you very much Huninthesun!

That is what I was thinking but I was just not sure.

Greatly appreciate your efforts and these exciting campaigns.

Are the HITS campaigns working for 4.5? I tried reinstalling them, but cannot get them to appear ingame for some reason.

No reason for don't work, but you need "register" their custom DLL, see early posts.

Hi Zionid
I have reloaded them successfully and all working under 4.5 Blitz.

Follow the HITS instructions pdf in the main d/l and the key thing is the subfolders for Parts and Addins are now within the new Blitz folder in steamapps\common etc.
The HITS mission sub folder goes in the mission section in the Documents\1c Softclub folder created by Blitz as this is where the progress "state" is saved.

Now if i could only figure out how to get my Desastersoft Wick v Dundas to work....
I think there is a change in some of the code with Blitz that is causing it to not start as i have reloaded and copied all the files to the right folders and can see it in my campaigns menu but it will not start.

Seems that Desastersof campaign use some 32 bits software, the team who made their campaigns was disbanded, the company change owner and the new don't have a clue about support. Look there:

For a while keep a install of 4.312 to be able to use this campaigns.

Many thanks for the link 1lokos.
Haven't looked at that forum for a while.
Thought it might be something like that, a real shame.

Luckily i have kept my 4.312 install (if i ever want to go back).

Just have to refly the SP campaigns that do work until 5.0 comes along.

Hi Semor

You've probably found them already but the campaigns are available on the Downloads section here at ATAG.
