View Full Version : Biggin Hill bounce

I've been updating my campaigns to work with patch 4.3 and noticed there is a problem with spawn points 149 and 151 at Biggin Hill: aircraft spawning in those pens and moving forward to the taxi way will bounce up a few feet into the air and crash to the ground. Adjacent spawn points appear to be OK - except perhaps for 121. I haven't noticed this issue on versions of the game prior to patch 4.
I've worked around it by placing static aircraft at those spawn points.

The issue has always been there for Biggin Hill. Do as you did with the static objects or do a custom spawn point layout with the airfield tools.

Hi Aescwulf,

Also there's problem with this at the airfield next to tangmere. I was taxing then next I was bounced 200 meters in the air.

thank you for reporting this bug! Which Airfiled is it? Westhampnett or Ford? Could you please test it again and pinpoint the exact location?

Trying to find out more about a feature/bug I'm pursuing, I did a few taxiing tests at the eastern end of Biggin.

Here are the results so far. I spawned in and tried to taxi to the yellowish field to the east. I didn't make it. So, I thought I'd taxi round behind the revetments in question. Didn't make it. I could hardly get there across the field either.

I've always thought the actual airfields are as flat as a pancake, but the eastern end of Biggin is more like the surrounding countryside, full of invisible ditches. I've divided my prangs into three types - a "bump" in which the tail bumps up. This often happens if you taxi onto a "road" texture/bit of the map, and seems normal enough. Then there are the "sinkholes", in which the gear sinks into the solid-seeming ground, almost always resulting in a busted prop. And finally there are the fireballs, in which you are thrown dozens of feet in the air and your bird does a beautiful back-flip triple salchow, before blowing up in a raging fireball of fury.

Funnily enough, just outside the revetment 151, I hit a sinkhole. I broke the prop, so cut throttle. There was a pause, and then there was the back-flip of death.

Personally, in my mind's eye I imagine some sort of invisible ditch, like in old IL2 '46, when two runways were put together and there was a crack between them, sort of, and I speculate that one of these ditches runs right through or in front of 149 and 151. But then that's just a guess...?
