Flying the ATAG server earlier today, I performed some escort duty in my Hurricane Rotol for Timboy's bomb-laden Blenheim headed for occupied France. This is raw footage of Timboy's successful bombing of a Nazi target, followed by brief footage of Timboy lining up for a landing at Littlestone after a successful dash across the Channel for home.

Finally, some quick guncamera cinefootage of my Hurricane attacking two Junker 88's, followed by a quick snapshot of a ME 109 about to dive on a fellow virtual-RAF pilot below.

Hey let that last bit run longer...I want to see the info window say
"Hurricane Rotol flown by ATAG_Snapper killed the pilot of BF 109 E3 Mk.MrX".
Can't understand why u want to cut that out !?!?!.. :confused!:

I'm SURE it was MK Mr X! LOL (Hope he never reads this. "Nyet!!!!" :no

The "guncam" is activated by my trigger, once I release it the video stops -- hence the abrupt cut off. I have another button on my joystick as simple on/off toggle for FRAPS (that's how I got Timboy's accurate bombing, plus the subsequent shot of him on long final into Littlestone. No 109's -- amazing!).

FRAPS scares the daylights outta me because of the huge files it generates so quickly; have to be careful not to leave the darn thing running by accident!

Hi Snapper. How do you set that up to record when pressed?

Hi Doc,

For me it wasn't easy because basically I'm "'puter-stupid"! LOL

I used Thrustmaster's TARGET software to program into my Warthog joystick a very simple PRESS and RELEASE command using the trigger. I have FRAPS set at 29.97 fps which best integrates with other video I may wish to incorporate.

I also have a spring loaded switch on the throttle programmed to help me aim, since I got tired of moving my head around with TrackIR chasing the gunsight pipper as I'm lining up my shot. When I depress this switch, it does 3 things in rapid sequence:

1) centers TrackIR
2) pauses TrackIR
3) zooms in to 30 POV

When I release the switch, it springs back to its resting position which does 3 things to reverse the process:

1) zooms back to 70 POV (I prefer this to wide angle 90 POV)
2) centers TrackIR (in case my head moved while shooting)
3) unpauses TrackIR (to quickly regain Situational Awareness)

I use a spring switch on the throttle just because it's easy just to leave go of it when I pull off target, but this same sequence can easily be programmed to a joystick button as a simple ON/OFF toggle.

The TARGET software only works with the TM Warthog HOTAS ($400), the Cougar Hotas ($300+ ?), and, get this, the excellent TM16000 at $39 freaking bucks at Amazon.com!

Hope this helps. Not sure if other makers' software can do the same with theirs.

OK thanks Snapper. I will check to see if I can manage such a setup with CH products. I think I can. Not sure yet. Wont be able to play with it until Saturday. I am grounded tonight :(

Hi Snapper,
I like this!
I also have a Warthog and also get tired of chasing the crosshairs around.
I haven't set up Fraps yet but I like the guncam process. I think I'll give it a try.

Would you mind sending me your script file for these commands? It would help a lot since I am not a C+ programmer by nature and it is trial and error to figure them out.

Regards,
Catseye

ps. How did you capture the voices?

Hi Cats,

I'd be glad to email you the .fcf file. PM me your email address - it's a small file.

The voices were captured off of FRAPS. In the Movies tab of FRAPS I have the boxes ticked for:

Record Win7 sound

Record external input (there is a white rectangular box underneath this option which has my microphone connection to my sound card listed)

That's it.

For movie capture with FRAPS I have the video capture hotkey set at ALT O (the letter "O")

For TrackIR I have Center hotkey set at ALT Q and Pause hotkey set at ALT P

tryed to do some changes to your x-plane in the TrackIR profile?
The constant "chasing the piper" was getting to annoying, so after some tweaking i made the change and it got so much better now.
I'm using the charvell profile and removing the wide movement on the x-plane didn't mess up the other head planes.

But just to be on the sure side, make a copy of the profile and apply changes

Kill me?For what?What have I done wrong?:coolio:
Not long ago in the chat asked me a pilot, after the fight (I shot it down)
"My bullets have touched you?" I said yes. He was very happy.

P.S Guys, I am writing a video program PlayClaw3
Very good, I recommend to all...

@MK.MR.X.: looking forward to seeing what PlayClaw3 is all about.

@XE90: thanks for the kind words. I find it tricky getting steady footage in online play. I use Charvel's profile with my TrackIR which gives huge deflection with very slight head movement. When flying fighters in a combat zone using TrackIR, my head is constantly swivelling. Watching that kind of footage would be enough to make Long John Silver seasick.

Hi Snapper old chap,

Would you mind awfully sending me the Target thingy for pausing trackir/centre/pov/recording/mash a cuppa tea etc when pressing the tit on the trigger please? I was looking forward to playing with Target but it is completely beyond me.

I'll pm my email in hope :)

Cheers,

Septic.
