Crazy when you think that 70 years isn't that long a time.

I am deeply moved when I consider the sacrifices these men and women made to secure our liberties today.

After reading a lot about Nazism, I now realize all it needed for my skin to be used as lamp shade, or my hair to be turned into ropes, or for my bones to be used for decorations, was for those men to fail on those beaches. Some say but the Russians would've rolled them up from the east, and I agree; however, a Europe under the hammer and sickle would've been no better than one under the swastika. Don't forget these two had earlier signed a pact of friendship. In the end, it was only Herr Hitlers intractable hatred for Bolshevism that prevented his entering into an alliance with Stalin against the rest of the world.

Bearing that possibility in mind, I am certain that if the Austrian dwarf's hatred of Jews (a people who've contributed so much to modern civilization) was such that he contemplated their utter annihilation, one doesn't need much imagination to guess what would have become of me as an African.

As such, whenever these anniversaries come around, I tend to pause and in a moment of contemplative silence, thank God for the lives of those men who fought for us on Sword, Juno, Omaha, Gold and Utah beaches. Bless them one and all, and may God rest their souls.
