Probably didn't spell it right but... question:

On Axis side, how do the rescue boats work ? You can bail or ditch by them for a landing ? Not that I care about stats, but I suspect those don't count as landings right ?

I think crash landing or bailing near them is the difference between the captured/drowned message and the "rescued to fly another day" one

They count as friendly territory for ditch purposes. So, in terms of strict mechanics, nada. They remove the possibility of drowning when you land within the blue area on the map, which is more of an immersion and personal challenge thing.
