Does DCS have a map mode like IL-2?

I do like the common cheat of having a map with with a symbol of your plane moving over the map. I can get a map to pull up and I can get a wonder woman view with a map on the side but I am still lost. Is there some way of getting that in DCS?

In the kneeboard options there is a command (Kneeboard current position mark point) that you can set to mark your current location. It will put a small ">" mark pointing in your current direction on the map!

Yes, k brings up the map, ctrl-k marks your position. ] and [ cycle through the different maps.

Depending on difficulty settings - yes. You can choose to display ground objects and aircraft. If enabled, press F10 to bring the map up and if necessary scroll out with the mouse wheel.
