View Full Version : Team Fusion Update - September 26th 2014 - A life on the ocean wave

Hello again and glad to see you're still interested in the updates Team Fusion are providing, you're interest is what makes such a difference to all of us here in Team Fusion towers :) .

Firstly can I say on behalf of the team that we realise it may look from the outside that we are 'dragging our feet', but nothing could be further from the truth. Everyone at Team Fusion is a keen aviation enthusiast and Simulation enthusiast and everything we are doing is done just as much for you as it is for us. The main reason that Team Fusion exists is because there was a realisation that the software that was released (and now sadly abandoned in such an untimely manner) was a truly incredible piece of software, that with (a lot) nurturing and care could actually become one of if not the best Sims out there. For some reason I think of Obi Wan Kenobi when I think of what happened to Cliffs of Dover:

http://youtu.be/t8RCQDDsMpU

http://youtu.be/t8RCQDDsMpU

So, Team Fusion exist only as volunteers, no pay, no financial benefit, no reward........except the feedback we get from the community when we do something right  So please keep spreading the word, please keep enthusiastic (as we are) and please don't be concerned about the apparent lack of news/updates. We are working from all continents of the world, communicating across all timezones and between us, we are building a much brighter future for this simulation.
(Of-course if we had the Source Code.....Cliffs would have no competitors....maybe one-day 1C will send us a parcel :salute: )

So, let's get on with today's news.

Firstly, a small piece of news on the Wellington. This is still under development and as always, we are on the lookout for 3D modellers to join the team, if you think you have the skillset and want to be part of our community based team, please check out this thread for more details:

http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11129

Okay, so back to the Wellington. So you are are sat in the cockpit and looking around you need to find out details about how the aircraft is performing, therefore essential to your piloting are the dials. We have been very lucky to have images supplied to us of the dials from which our texture artists have been working.

Rather than show you the current work we have, I'd rather just show you the quality of the images we have been sent to work from.

11685 11686 11687 11688

Now these are important for us as these give us the basis of being completely accurate and getting details to scale. Team Fusion really are paying attention to detail in bringing a new bomber to the Simulation for Pilots to use. I hope this makes the bomber boys happy seeing this level of accuracy? :)

Okay, here's another bit of news for the FMB users. What can Mission Builders expect to see when they delve into the interface?

This is still work in progress but check out this image:

11689

Just some of the features being worked on include:

* Moved buildings out of the statics category & into buildings category.
* Moved statics out of the buildings category & into statics category.
* Recategorised & reordered statics & buildings categories. Now much easier to navigate.
* Introduced 'new' objects. ie soldiers (humans), tree objects etc.

So hopefully the WiP makes thing easier to use as we carry on fixing it

Now, today's main update. A life on the ocean wave.

The 3D modellers in Team Fusion have been busy (and still are) not only working on aircraft but also new shipping for Mission Builders to utilise in making their environments much richer and diverse for Pilots to attack and defend. Current thinking inside Team Fusion is the possibility of making these controllable (in a basic fashion) along the lines of how players can use Tanks and AA guns at the moment....but that is still in discussion and maybe another patch down the line.

There is more shipping already created than is shown in this short clip but it should give you a taste of just what is going on behind the scenes and the level of detail involved. Please note, this footage contains 'work in progress' models, from which we have already identified and started work on small fixes as and when we see them :) (so don't panic if you see a glitch...it is WIP!!!! :smash: ))

Okay then here's today's video clip (make sure you stay to the end :devilish: ) :

As always we like to add news on the Bugtracker so thanks to TF member Artist for putting this together for me :salute:

From the Team Fusion Bugtracker (http://tfbt.nuvturais.de)

The bugtracker (http://tfbt.nuvturais.de/projects/il2clodtf) keeps accumulating data: Since the last published update on August, 28th, 10 new users brought the total up to 770 registered users of which 45 have been active since then. We currently have 115 open issues (86 bugs and 29 feature requests). 2 have already been resolved with patch 4.312 and 11 are currently in progress (http://tfbt.nuvturais.de/projects/il2clodtf/issues?set_filter=1&f[]=status_id&op[status_id]=%3D&v[status_id][]=2&f[]=&c[]=tracker&c[]=status&c[]=priority&c[]=subject&c[]=author&c[]=updated_on&c[]=category&c[]=votes_value&group_by=) to be fixed or implemented.

4 new issues have been raised since the last update, among them are (no judgement implied): Feature Request #634 (http://tfbt.nuvturais.de/issues/634): "The death of the player on a place of the gunner shouldn't be the final." (New) Reported Bug #633 (http://tfbt.nuvturais.de/issues/633): "Ju 88: Fuel Cocks 1 & 2 not working correctly (in SP)" (Confirmed) Reported Bug #630 (http://tfbt.nuvturais.de/issues/630): "Ju 88: brakes have to be stronger" (New)

The issues with the highest (summary) vote currently are:
28: #581 (http://tfbt.nuvturais.de/issues/581): "RAF fighter engines incorrectly start cold in Multiplayer" (New) 23: #602 (http://tfbt.nuvturais.de/issues/602): "Defensive AI Gunner Skill Levels Set Too High" (New) 19: #610 (http://tfbt.nuvturais.de/issues/610): "Navigational Illumination Functionality: Smudge pots, NAV markers, and landing headlamps." (Feedback) 19: #614 (http://tfbt.nuvturais.de/issues/614): "Large cloud formations do not appear in replay of track (.TRK) files" (New) 15: #598 (http://tfbt.nuvturais.de/issues/598): "Damage to Gear and/or Flaps when safe speeds exceeded" (New) 15: #589 (http://tfbt.nuvturais.de/issues/589): "Hawker Hurricane start up" (New)

We invite all pilots to participate in the bugtracker either by reporting bugs, requesting features, and/or vote on issues. But before you do anything, please read the guidelines and FAQ here: http://tfbt.nuvturais.de/projects/il2clodtf/boards/4

Once again thankyou for your interest and support, we're here for the long run....keeping the dream alive.

Cheers, MP/TF :GN:

PS.....those dials pictured above aren't photographs.....those are the in-game textures :)

Great news that the FMB is getting some lurve! Hats off to all involved.

Can't... stop... myself... from... asking.... ..... (sorry):

Rationalising the the statics/buildings ridiculousness is great. Absolutely great. But can I ask about the buildings? Will they act like "buildings" or like "statics"? In other words, will they have to load at the start of a mission (buildings) or will they be able to spawn in with submissions? And will the models be damageable? (By that I mean, is there any chance that the statics/buildings will be replaced by their "damaged" models if they're hit?)

And any progress on Splines/waypoints and the .misroads file?

And and and.......

[foams at mouth and passes out in fit of excessivie enthusiasm]...

Awesome work Team Fusion. COD still has few if any real competitors. No disrespect, but even the new IL-2 pretenders have alot of work to do before they can hope to best the COD game engine, not to mention the game engines future possibilities. Its unfortunate that combat flight sims scale and complexity are so large and the genre so small that it makes it very difficult for developers to fund. I'm hoping VR will once again make flight sims a major genre, worth funding.

edit...not to mention the fact there is so much detail now that developers will have to incorporate and help community teams like TF

To everyone:

As MP has mentioned, we are working hard on a complex project... there are many many elements to creating a new Campaign environment.

We have modelers working on 7 new or new versions of aircraft types, 5 new shipping types, 6 new vehicle/gun types, many building types, new map tool, plus all the sound, FM, texture, skins, etc. required to provide players with a complete immersive experience.

But just in aircraft, there are another 5 types which we would like to add and which could still use modelers... >>>> ...who know 3D modeling programs like 3DMax, so if you think you have the skills, or you know someone who does and who might be interested, please contact MP. :salute:

Developing the Maritime aspect builds on the overall playing experience of Cliffs of Dover, given how vital shipping was to Britain and the part it played in the initial target strategy and tactics of the Luftwaffe.

Thanks as well to Artist for his informative update on the TF Bug Tracker and his competent handling of the reported bugs and many requested features.

Hm, you make me feel like Christmas in September :D couldn't sleep last night. Seven (!) new planes.:party2:

Let's speculate, what's behind the door. Let's take a look through the keyhole, (Don't say do not, I am just too curious), what can I see?
Well, first and long-time awaited & promised: The flyable Wellington.
Ah, the hint given from MP: IIB or not IIB, There is a Spit IIB & and a Hurri MK II A/B under the tree = already 4 new planes!
Hm, Spit MKVA+B+C=7? Nah, they came later in the Med-scenario with the VB(trop)
But a JU88 A-4 Torpedo-bomber + CR42 + Gloster Gladiator (would like that pairing) = 7, too!

"Don't be so nosey" I am already hearing, "this will end up in a big, big deception, and Santa Claus will not come!"

Nah, I don't think so, I wont be disappointed, I'll be very happy, I trust in TF!

Very nautical and good news on the progress of the Wellington, she'll add further interest to this quintessential sim.

Must confess its new aircraft and a new theatre that are needed. Ships are a great exercise but the minutiae of which is which doesn't interest me when I'm at 7,000m.

I know I know it's people in their spare time and so on. I just can't help thinking it's wasted energy.

In that case I guess the new theater could be a plain brown map as mountains, rivers, towns etc do not matter at 7000m :D

It's just a question of perspective.

As case in point, for me 7,000m (European notation) means exactly 7m, as 7km would be written as 7.000m. And if you are screaming over the waves at 7m, believe me, it makes a massive difference if you're approaching a destroyer, merchantman or U-boat! High-level flight is great too, but sometimes the mission calls for low-level convoy attacks and these new units will make a huge difference to those flights.

Not everything in every TF release will be of interest to absolutely everyone. But, in the end it is all good and helps keep the diversity, and thus the simulator, alive.

You can see all of those things from 12,000m+. You can see ships from 12,000m too, but as with the original IL2 ships can stand in for each other more than, say, a Mig pretending to be a Spit.

Dietrich - 7,000m = 7km for me at least.

It's just my opinion of course, but I reckon fixing rivers and adding weather, plus new theatres and aircraft are what's important for longevity.

No intention to do down the commitment but this update doesn't float my boat. Sorry 'bout that.

To suggest creating elements other than aircraft is a waste of time is to misunderstand what is the strength of Team Fusion.

Some of our members are by preference interested in creating vehicles and ships... so they create them.

Some are less experienced, creating buildings is a good way to start. Later we expect them to be able to move on to more complex subjects.

We could ignore all the supporting elements of the game... but that would mean a much less atmospheric environment.

Everything contributes to the whole.

If you would like to hire a professional 3D artist and direct him to create aircraft for TF, we'd be more than happy to get the help. But be prepared to spend quite a large sum.

Until that happens we will work as volunteers, doing things our way.

However, despite your claim to not intending to 'down' the commitment, you are doing exactly that.

Maybe next time, keep the opinion to yourself if you don't mean to criticize.

TF members cannot be seen to be profiting from our work. We don't own the license to the game.

So a kickstarter campaign to raise money for TF is out of the question.

Theoretically if some private individual on his own hired a 3D artist to create a CoD compatible aircraft model for him, then that aircraft was donated to TF, it might work.

But please don't do anything until we have a chance to discuss this.

It is quite possible the 3D artist could be sued for profiting from work related to an unlicensed product.

What for example would be the price range for a single engine fighter? I have no idea about this whole business, but hiring a professional 3D artist is an idea that came up already, so I am wondering... I mean there is kickstarter and everything...

To answer your Q...
Assuming creating a new plane from the ground up takes 6 months, then the cost would be 6 months of salary to that one modeler.

Hmm, I don't entirely understand the money issue. Desastersoft are selling "Add ons" for Clod and old IL2. They're selling not only missions/campaigns but also stuff like custom textures or gameplay modifications included in them. You do many similar things as well. What are they doing differently that they can profit from it and you can't? I'm simply trying to understand the difference. What can you and what can't you profit from exactly?

And if you can profit from some things, like stuff mentioned above, but not from others, then start collecting donations for what you actually can and do the other stuff that you can't sell for free :)

Sure, but I can tell I'm right by the expression on your face.

You are entitled to post comments as long as you are respectful.

However, despite your claim to not intending to 'down' the commitment, you are doing exactly that.

Maybe next time, keep the opinion to yourself if you don't mean to criticize.

Nope I'm not. The commitment is phenomenal, that is clear and obvious. The direction, less so.

Desastersoft has a licensing agreement with 1C Games to produce campaigns, which they signed before the cancellation of CoD and prior to 1C's agreement with 777 games (RoF/BoS) whereby 777 purchased the IL-2 Sturmovik name as well as all the development for STORM OF WAR's planned expansion to the East Front. Desastersoft's agreement was signed when CoD seemed like it might be a going concern. This agreement was not voided by 777's takeover.

There is a whole different set of circumstances now. Licensing has been ruled out for the fact it would be in direct competition with 777/BoS development.

That is sure sad that they fear cutting in a wicked team of developers like TF (the guys that saved their game) for a percentage would effect the BOS market that much. When really it would just make them way more money because they would be making money off both games, TF would get a much deserved taste, and we would have 2 wicked IL2 games. Imagine if TF was actually getting something besides just the communities praise the things they could accomplish.

The part of this that baffles me the most is that a bunch of guys working for free were able to fix the game that a payed Dev team could not sort out over the course of 2 or 3 years.

Thinking about this still fries my brain . .

TF Rules ! all other Dev teams Drool.

It makes sense. Thanks for the exaplanation.

In that case you may consider soemthing like Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/)

The site allows for supporting artists and their creativity etc. The thing is you don't directly buy anything from them and not necessarily support any specific projects. People gather support for doing very different stuff, mostly different art activities but among them also for stuff like vlogs about how they play video games, none of which they have any rights/licenses for.

Here's a good example of a quite successful one, from a person very well known in Arma 3 community. He's a known modder for Arma but he doesn't take any money for it. Patreon helps him to support as a person and in exchange he does movies, tutorials and other stuff, you can see it all here (http://www.patreon.com/dslyecxi). But he doesn't take a penny for the mods. Perhaps this could be a solution that you could use. This way you're not profiting directly from making mods, you only accept monthly donations for other activities, and the fact that you also make mods for CloD in your spare time is none of 1Cs concern.

We are not ATAG. Team Fusion is a separate entity.

ATAG accepts donations for its servers, Team Fusion does not have a server and does not accept donations.

ATAG loans us the use of their secondary server on occasion to beta test, most of the time it runs their own missions.

I know, I realize the difference between you and ATAG. I think it's a misunderstanding that comes from my wording it, I have phrased it in a wrong way. (not a native speaker)

I did not mean you already do it, I meant that you should do it. Accept donations on Patreon (or through whatever other means) for doing other stuff, tutorials, movies (like this recent one with ships just as an example), or just simply being there for everyone, whatever comes to your mind. You don't even need to deliver on these side promises. In other words, you can accept donations for pretty much anything that is directly not profiting from making the TF patches. This way it's not illegal and you get a token of appreciation as a team. Like the example I gave, the guy doesn't accept donations for mods despite being a well known mod maker and community leader. He accepts donations to support homself as a person, make movies, be there for the community. You could do the same.

There are ways to get you financial support and donations that are not illegal and is not profiting off CloD directly without a license and this way the whole community would benefit.

Okay, here's another bit of news for the FMB users. What can Mission Builders expect to see when they delve into the interface?

Just some of the features being worked on include:

* Moved buildings out of the statics category & into buildings category.
* Moved statics out of the buildings category & into statics category.
* Recategorised & reordered statics & buildings categories. Now much easier to navigate.
* Introduced 'new' objects. ie soldiers (humans), tree objects etc.

So hopefully the WiP makes thing easier to use as we carry on fixing it

Its nice to see that some work is being done in this direction having raised it. I do have some concerns though. I, and I expect a lot of others, have a significant amount of time invested in putting together templates and missions to be used as submissions. If the reorganisation of objects into Statics and Buildings affects how the game sees them, then this work is going to be rendered useless at a stroke, and all objects are going to have to be revaluated for their inclusion or exclusion? Is the existing limitation regarding the use of buildings in submissions going to be addressed at the same time?

What about things like damaged versions of the buildings? Some have them, some don't. Will that get looked at too?

Don't get me wrong, it's great to see that the FMB is getting some attention, but I'm not sure the reorganisation of object trees (which anyone with more than 2 minutes of FMB time already understands) is really that useful if it breaks stuff that works now.

Hi. I think this will rearrange only the list, don't modify the object properties or anything else.
Can you please send us any of your mission? We can try it with this new list, and We will see that this can cause trouble or not...

Tom, if it's only rearranging how they appear in the FMB then it's not going to be an issue. I can't send a mission as they require stuff you won't have, so wouldn't work. Thanks though.

I think I'm coming at this from a different direction, though. I think it would be a missed opportunity if a simple - I dunno - redesignation of FMB objects didn't address many of the tantalizing annoyances in the FMB. Personally, I'd love to see the "Buildings" category somehow abolished or incorporated into the "statics" category. Whatever the distinction had been intended to be, it clearly was never properly implemented and now just serves to confuse and annoy. While we're at it, how about a searchable table of FMB objects, and... and... and...

But what would be sad would be if the FMB was deemed now to have had its share of TF fairy dust and was sent to the back of the queue again for the next 24 or 36 months.

Well, as far as I remember from my WWII history books the Hood didn't float too well after a certain encounter in the Denmark Strait, so that makes sense... :)

I like the update a lot and was thinking - when it comes to new flyables - that maybe we will be lucky to have a Beaufort in the coming patch. The Blenheim model should be helpful for the Beaufort, and, well, the Beaufort would be historically great for ship attacks in the Channel and other theatres...

This looks like a pretty fantastic update to me. Correct naval units in air sims like CLOD never happen (think KGVs moored at Pearl Harbor in IL-2). Flying missions against the Royal Navy/Kriegsmarine was a part of the war that needs to be addressed. The Kriegsmarine especially was hit hard at port in the war, and would make for fantastic targets in a bombing raid.

Hopefully many other ships get into the game, so that we can chase after Scharnhorst/Gneisenau and Prinz Eugen on the Channel Dash, or attack a large convoy coming into port escorted by the Tribals seen in this video.

On January 1st 1942, at just 29 years of age, Adolf Galland was given full command of the Luftwaffe’s Fighter Arm. Almost immediately Hitler gave his young General the onerous task of providing air cover for one of the most daring naval operations of World War II. Coded Operation Cerberus, the pride of the German Navy – the two battlecruisers ‘Gneisenau’ and ‘Scharnhorst’ and the cruiser ‘Prinz Eugen’ – were ordered to leave the French port of Brest and make a dash through the dangerous straits of the English Channel, to the relative safety of the Elbe estuary.
The battle fleet would pass within a few miles of the British coast, within easy striking distance of the RAF; secrecy, careful planning, ample air cover and the element of surprise would be the key components of the exercise. “Everything depends on the air umbrella with which you have to cover the naval units”, Hitler told Galland.
That a commander so young should be given such responsibility directly and personally by the Führer, speaks volumes for the esteem in which General Galland was held by the German High Command.
