People already did a "alternative" version: :D

Good the reference to Rise of flight Team - this reduce the idea of "il-2 II".

So I guess it's pretty close to it's release version with only three weeks to go.

I wonder if we will get anymore updates between now and the release version?

This new fangled technology leaves a bit of a vacuum in the development experience. Not too long ago we'd all be getting excited at this stage because we would have got the news that the sim had gone "Gold" and had been sent to be pressed on CD, packaged and distributed!

Oh man, those were the days!

Yep the new way does leave a vacuum, as I don't see them really going Gold so to speak.
I mean with the system they have, it really will always be a work in progress I suppose.

One week there will be an update for the EA guys, and they will say - ok you now have the release version.

In the last week the updates were almost daily, is likely to continue until close the release date.
They say that no new install will be needed. The game is basically what are installed now.

That is very good news.

(I got in a lot of trouble with my family by using up our ADSL download limit last month and getting our bandwidth throttled! - Ah! The joys of being an Australian!!!! )

The last work about wipe SP Campaing Progress for founders is (today):

ZAK -"Ok, we've just cancelled the wipe."

"As I said, we've cancelled it so anyone could save their progress."

Player - Read the last two pages of the thread (Zak's posts) and form your own opinion. It seems no wipe at all, or it's been lost in translation.

ZAK - What translation?

No means no, it's not very hard to translate for me. But I might use a dictionary to check myself next time.

Their classic "good communication - confuse information". :D

Looking at the box art, it just makes me more than a little sad to think that this is the first ever IL2 title that I won't be buying.

I would have loved an Eastern Front theatre and a game that was a step forward from the original series. It's just such a wasted opportunity. :(

It's reassuring to know that Team Fusion is keeping the IL2 legacy alive, and with DCS WW2 as well, the future of flight sims is in good hands.

aha, a burning 109 on the cover. Shot down in flames.
Even one more reason not to buy it?

I didn't play much of early access BoS, after trying my hand at it for a few times I thought I'd leave it until release so all the buttons work as they should, etc.

I installed it yesterday and started playing the campaign... and I was quite disappointed. Not by the FM or DM or whatever other people are ranting about. But the campaign itself. It was so bland. So NOT immersive. It was like nobody gave the campaign much thought (which then makes it even more surprising that multiplayer has SP dependent unlocks....) if you want to complete a chapter you need XP to do it. The game doesn't care how you do it. You have to choose an airfield (allied or axis), mission type, difficulty setting and mission length and away you go. You can be flying as a 109 fighter escort for one mission and as a russian il2 pilot for the next.

No continuity, no carreer, no medals, no home airfield that you stay at for a few missions. So so bland... It's essentially a Quick mission builder, not a campaign.

Another big surprise was the 2x time compression maximum. Which genius though of that and what is the reasoning for it?

The DM is ok, the FM could be better ( I did try the inverted roll with gears out on a la-5 on expert and did it without problems, much to my astonishment.)

The UI is not the most intuitive and seems slow to react to changes/confirmation clicks and has this weird inertia on the mouse and when you view the plane externals.

I'm so mixed about this right now. I dislike all the arguing and name calling in this forum subsection (7 threads are locked because of it) and it is really tiring to read. I do not want to engage in that. But objectively from my experience this game did disappoint me. I will still play it, maybe i will warm up to it a bit. If not; I will count my losses and not go on about it.

As of now however I wouldn't be able to recommend this game to people who are expecting an improved Il-2. It's just not that game, not in gameplay & not in spirit. My personal rating at the moment is 6.5/10

Holding out hope for mods in the future.

"Another big surprise was the 2x time compression maximum. Which genius though of that and what is the reasoning for it?"

That was because some enterprising players found that they could start a campaign, hit Autopilot then set the speed to.16x and unlock the items they needed.
Once this method was shared an update quickly followed disabling anything faster than 2x so that players would either have to see the grind through without exploiting the software.....or not bother....or grind their way through it as the developers demanded.

The thing is if you are a 'hardcore' simulator pilot you'll play it on expert with no aids switched on anyway. So they are only alienating the players who come from arcade backgrounds or consoles, who like to get to the action, and so missing the newer audience they said they wished to capture?

But that's the reason, to stop people skipping their campaign and get the unlocks.

Ahh so they shoot themselves in the foot with that one. Couldn't they just made it so that XP earned while on autopilot would not count?

Well I find that to be speculation, it is on the bases of what do we know. ROF had x 16 but it did not really work. For those with high end systems it was faster than x 8 but note double the time.
I understand the sceptic attitude towards developers and moderators in BOS, that said there are no need for conspiracy theories. I never believed I would enjoy the campaigns. But I do , sort of. Be aware of those saying they complained and then got banned, it is not true in most cases, There are already many mythes about the evil developers of BOS.

I'd be happy with a 8x compression I suppose. 2x is just too limiting. Do you know why they didn't do the 8x?

Totally but,

I've seen posts made by notable members of the community which where just meant as CONSTRUCTIVE criticism getting deleted by admins or getting told to "simmer down".
That's a turn-off for me community/forum wise.
I fully understand people are tired of idiots demonizing the devs, but some basic criticism getting censored is ridiculous.

I think I'm neutral on this game so far, lots of pro's and con's which come down to personal taste/preference but I'll wait a couple of months (patches) and try it again.

Prefer TF CloD and the ATAG server too much at the moment hehe :)

Founders know that BoS had x 16 but it got taken away when it was exploited to get through campaigns quicker and not have to grind them. That is a fact.

I am not saying you guys are wrong ;)

I am saying we really do not know, I prefer freedom of choice, I prefer people to play with their game as they wish. And I prefer that moderators and developers do not behave like as holes.
In many occasions they have, in others they haven't at all. In some highlighted cases it was very bad conduct in every way by the member that caused ban.
I still prefer that is excluded from here, because none really can know.
I know x 16 did not work and caused freeze of the game, it was not established why, I think it is a gpu in user end . I suepect that Mystic is right, but is it worth bringing up here?
Why not keep the critique clean, stick to the things we know? Or discover for that sake.

I'd be happy with a 8x compression I suppose. 2x is just too limiting. Do you know why they didn't do the 8x?

I was responding factually to a question. That was the reason I answered accurately and honestly. I have always said I have no agendas, I am a founder. I saw the posts where people explained how to exploit the system, pilots started to unlock features quickly.....and the next update the multiplier was set to maximum 2x

Even the most blinkered would have to see what happened?

So that is the reason it was locked to 2x and no matter if you want to dance around and joust with me, all reasonably minded players, especially the 80% who voted against the unlocks in a poll, know exactly why the 16x was removed.

As a hardcore simer I never use more than 1x, and I hate in game map which show ,your aircraft instant position.

Sure it's longer but i really don't mind. What would you think if people was allowed to use x2 or x4 in Atag server over Channel ? You would see some fighter jet over you ? ;-) unrealistic feature in my mind, in MP as SP.

I don't play anymore BOS for this time, maybe later after some good moding.

Exactly my point. You can play it how you want to, not how you're told to.

That poll they put up was just sick, whats the point of a poll when they do not follow the result. You might be right, but I give benefit to the doubt, or more like it, I really just do not care. It is just another brick in the wall, and I am tired of caring about it

Funny about this "imbroglio" is that in Russian forum one from Dev's staff advise a unhappy (MP) player do this, use the Autopilot, 16x. :D

The thing is, the game autopilot is bad implemented, 90's CFS have a feature that disable autopilot if enemy are near, so the player can administers your flying time like they want (2, 4, 8x...), but the game (AI) don't do the action (and grind unlocks) for him.

Even the 2X doesn't work like it used to. My AI wingmen are crashing into me now on the runway takeoff and on landing, and AAA has been placed on your route so that if you don't fly to avoid it, it will often shoot you down - IL2 flies too low the whole way. Plus I got an IL2 mission last time which was just 1 IL2, no escort, ie certain death if you use Autopilot.

Sigh

Luckily there are just so many game freezes since the last patch I have virtually stopped playing for now. Will go back to it after next patch and see if it is any better.
