Channel Battles-Luftwaffe is now available

Dear Pilots!

The Beta tests take more time than usual, but the new career mode has to be tested thoroughly. The two campaigns to be released with CHANNEL BATTLES – LUFTWAFFE will feature the "Adlerstaffel" of the Schlageter-Geschwader and 1st Staffel of the Horst Wessel-Geschwader.

You'll start as an ordinary pilot and have to advance through the ranks to become leader of your squadron. The speed of your advance depends on both your skill and the difficulty options you choose. The tougher the settings the faster you'll be promoted.
Both campaigns will be available in two versions - the first is as described with your goal being promoted to lead your squadron and the second is a historical campaign in which you already play the role of the Squadron Commander.

Even though the campaigns will feature similar tasks and missions you'll see enough randomization to have a high replayability value. You'll probably never fight the same battle twice.
All six campaigns will be available for users of the TEAM FUSION modifications as a separate installation.

BONUS PROGRAMM:
After passing 500 sold units we'll provide a surprise campaign which will be made available via the Update Service.

BONUS PROGRAMM TEAM FUSION:
As TEAM FUSION introduces new aircraft for 1941 to 1944 we'll provide updates to the historical campaigns.

They make good stuff. I bought their earlier one (Dundas vs Wick) a couple of years ago, installed it on my then-old PC, flew a couple of missions, and found it worked well. I then got into online ATAG flying and forgot about it. Since then got a new PC with a new OS (Windows 8.1..oh goody! LOL) Yesterday, out of curiosity, dug out the old external drive that D vs W was installed on, found the updater file in the Desastersoft folder, and double clicked. Honestly, I expected nothing to happen, or, at best, an error message. Dang if it didn't automatically update. Took a while, but the progress bar continually showed...progress. Who'da thunk? Finally, it was good to go. Fired her up and I was into the training missions. Impressed.

Definitely going to get this RAF Campaign.

I would be very interested in reading a review of this.

I bought the Wick vs. Dundas, but to be honest, even though the layout and presentation was generally good, loads of rather cheesy briefings, full of grammatical mistakes as well as code making some missions unwinnable and not being able to advance to next mission because of it turned me off.

I truly hope they have made a good product because I really WANT to like it. I think it is awesome that Desastersoft creates this kind of product for Cliffs.

Got Desastersofts CB2 three days ago and have flown a few missions for the Luftwaffe. A raid on Ramsgate was remarkable because of its surprising end. Nice & clever desigend mission. But see yourself: "Little things or tea drinkers get you anyway" :-) cheers, henry

I've spent several hours trying to get this to install. I think it may be because I'm using old SSDs with existing Steam libraries on them (G and H drive), on a new Windows install on a new SSD (C drive). I had Steam installed on G: but IL2 Clod on H: and noticed that the TF installer kept defaulting to the G: when trying to install the mod, forcing me to manually point it to the correct folder. I'm guessing this is where the Desastersoft pack is having issues, as I can't manually point it to the correct folder.

So does anybody know which registry entries tell Windows where the steam version of IL2 Clod is installed? I searched the registry for Dover with regedit, and found a heap of values pointing to both G and H locations, but wasn't sure which ones were safe to delete or altar. I'm loathe to go hacking through my registry without knowledge about what is ok to altar, as it's a surefire way to destroy Windows or my IL2 install.

I also have to point out that the Desastersoft email support has been as rude as it has been incompetent. I'm really not happy with their assistance, and have asked for a refund regardless.

CloD dont put keys on Windows Register.

You can copy game folder for any drive, many times you want.

If Desastersoft install point for some drive and dont let you change the path, put a game copy there. :D

Just downloaded the Channel Battles Luftwaffe tonight. No problems in installation and updating. Problem. Going away for the weekend so I won't be able to play until next week. I was a big fan of Rebirth of Honor for IL2 1946. If this plays along the same lines. I will be a enthusiastic supporter.

I just wonder why on earth they would call this product the same as a product the have already released. Makes searching for info, videos and reviews a pain in the neck.

Even so, still keeping my eyes open, but have not spotted any reviews yet. I wonder how the AI shortcomings of the base game is dealt with in these campaings, which seem to be rather extensive in scope. Example; will you be forced to use autopilot for takeoff if you want your staffel to follow you like in the base game? Are people having difficulties giving commands and understanding briefings etc?

I really love the dedication and ambition of Desastersoft, but I have been dissapointed by technical shortcomings in earlier campaigns, like getting mission failed and being unable to proceed to the next, even though it was friendly AI bombers which was kept safe from harm all the way. I can't stand the fact of not being able to proceed to the next mission because one fails, as it counter-realistic- the war goes on either way.

Hoping for the best!

So not being able to proceed if the mission is failed is a feature of these campaigns?

My main problem with the AI its that after a while they decide to just keep flying straight to their base not giving a damn if they are being shot. Does desastersoft campaings suffer from that aswell ? Its a rather expensive campaign for me....

Nops!
The AI issues are in the engine (maybe fixable, maybe not...) scripts* in campaign's don't "cure" this.
Same for radio communication - some scripts are broken or inverted (like landing request), only if rewrite in the engine for fix.

About the need of engage AI autopilot in begin of the mission to AI "see" the player.
The correct is take-off and do a circuit around the runway awaiting the AI joint, so they "recognize" the player as leader without use of AI.
Ask authorization for landing is useless, but if stay in the pattern circuit the Ground Control authorize the landing, in this order: 6,5,4,3,2,1 - if you are the leader (1) will be the last to landing.
