View Full Version : Smokfest

I have seen a number of Il-2:BoS videos on YouTube. For the most part they seem like smokefests where any hits create dense plumes of vapor and/or smoke. No doubt those sights create a feeding frenzy among players. There must be videos that show how isolated headshots are acknowledged in-game though I have not been able to find any so far. Links would be appreciated. Thanks!
I have no idea what your Agenda is mate ! In my opinion, you are staring to sound repetitive.

Fishing or not, don't think I have ever been shot down with a headshot, wounded and shot down yes, instant death never. And it should be rare IMHO...it happens much too often in TF CoD.
H
I also don't remember "instant dead" of player - AI pilot/gunner kill is rare but happen.
BTW - The "best" of "Ubi'Z00, Bananas'drama" spirit about il-2's is now in SimHQ (http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/forums/366/1/IL-2:_Battle_of_Stalingrad). Maybe find more fun there. :D

it depends. I get killed very rarely, though get a red screen quite often. (in CloD) Could do with a more realistic depiction of the wounded state - less force exerted on stick, slowly fading away, coming back... that sort of thing. at the same time the red screen could be toned down a tiny bit if that is done.

To the best of my recollection I recall a few times seeing "Headshot" message on enemy pilots in Il-2: 1946. The enemy AC might then crash immediately or continue flying thereafter, typically in a wide turn. I am guessing that there are fatal pilot hits modeled in BoS wherein AC are hit and go down without smoke signals. I am looking for links showing how those events are handled.
I don't think you are looking for those things, but for what it's worth I don't recall being headshot. Maybe you can't be headshot, I don't know.
Hit sounds next I reckon.

In Rise of Flight there is no such thing as a headshot. All hits are counted the same, whether they are to the torso or the toe. It is probably the same in BoS.

Yep, you are right. It's need 2/3 shots in the head/torso to kill a gunner or a pilot in BOS.
This guy did a test, most time is need 3 MG burst (?) to kill a AI crew. If player resistance is modeled equals...

I've been instakilled a couple of times, one time after hanging on a Stuka's tail for too long, another time when an AI Bf got me in a turn with a deflection shot. It seemed appropriate.

Excellent info in some responses. TY. Which BoS AC have self sealing fuel tanks?
Edit #2:
I don't know. Your best option of a quick response is to ask on the official forum or use the web to find out.
I'm curious too - please share what you find out.

Why don't you ask on the official forum? Or use the web to find out?

If there is any trollish behaviour on anyone's part, ATAG Admin will deal with it. There is no evidence of that in this thread. Thanks to those who provided a straight answer to a straight question.

Point understood Snapper.
I have edited my reply to avoid inference.

Just a thought...
This is not 1940 so there is better ammo and at the same time better armor on the planes.
I'm not sure but I would expect small caliber gunners from bombers not to be able to hit a pilot behind thick armored glass.
On the same token, I would think hits by the larger caliber cannons would cause a lot more damage than the pea shooters.
I like use 7,92mm as "lighter". ;)

You are not totally corrected, armored glass is optional in some of the ac

I am not claiming to be an AC historian, but maybe some forum members are. I might believe that all AC represented in BoS had self-sealing fuel tanks, but that may not have been the case. There may have been some AC that had both protected and unprotected fuel tanks or no fuel tank protection at all. Admittedly, possible follow on issues might be how or whether self sealing is modeled in-game and whether leaking tanks will ever run dry. Are in-game fires quenchable? Questions like these are inherent in the CFS territory.

Japanese and Russian plane designers sworn to light aircraft, light armament and maneuverability .
Japanese ac was mostly without armored protection and self sealing tanks. I am not sure about russian ac , a quick google gave me this topic

I have no time at the moment to read it how ever

No "fire extinguisher" command are available, and dive don't help.
In general the plane burns XX seconds and broken or explode.

Yes, that actually disappointed me, even in IL2 you got a fairly good chance to put out an engine fire with diving. In the end of the day the game is balanced. I fly bombers and can actually defend myself, clod you simply cannot if your not attacked by a inexperienced pilot.
BOS act like canvas planes from ww1 did. I am pretty sure the lightweight feel is from that perspective too

Don't know if this link will work for you but it says that Japan had several levels of fuel tank sealing. Whether BoS AC represented similar variations I'd like to know.

Yes Japan might have some late war models with self sealing tanks. But Zero´s was not among them, neither KI 43

Been doing some reading and seems some Zero marks had self sealing wing tanks. I saw mention of one version that had CO2 extinguisher for fuselage tank. Point is that info re fuel tank sealing systems is typically absent from write-ups of AC specs though critical in RL. Issue draws attention when fluid leaks are given prominent display in games. I would be surprised if there aren't forum members who are knowledgable on the subject re some of the AC depicted in BoS.
