I am trying to figure out what happen with Oleg and his latest project with Luthier, All I could find is that DCS took over the project. Can anyone shed some light on the matter?

I think the short answer is Luthier over promised and under delivered, only a result of money running out.
As this project was married to DCS, they decided to can the above and committed to follow through with the WW2 project themselves, with some of the team that were originialy involved.

Oleg's involvement was shown in a video (pure marketing maybe?), how much he was involved is debatable.

It was/is a great project, sadly did not get followed through buy the original people that conceptualized it, but at least DCS took the bull by the horns and committed to honor much of what was originally promised.

At least that is how I saw it unfold. Maybe others have more detailed info.

June 2014 Update
8 June 2014 Update

We have been reading the discussions here and we will try to answer your questions as soon as we have concrete answers for them. The exception will be the circumstances which led to this change in product management and development. Sorry, but that simply is not going to happen due to legal agreements.

One item I can shed some light on is where the Kickstarter funds went. All of the funds have been spent and they helped develop the Bf-109, P-47, Me.262, Spitfire, and Normandy map. However, given the massive amount of work, those Kickstarter funds were only a drop in the bucket of what is needed to flesh out this project. The vast majority of funds needed to finance this project have and will continue to come from Eagle Dynamics (not Kickstarter). To give you a feel… just the Eagle Dynamics developed and funded flight model for the Bf-109K has already cost us about 120k USD (that does not include external model, cockpit model, cockpit systems, etc.). Developing such products is not cheap!

As mentioned yesterday, this project will only have minimal impact on our other internal projects given that much of the former-RRG team is now working for Eagle Dynamics. As such, projects like the F/A-18C, Su-27 PFM, and new maps are still under active development. As a policy, we now do not discuss internal projects until they are nearing beta level (the exception being DCS WWII due to KS obligations). So, just because we are not talking about them, hardly means that they are not being worked on.

Today, I have also included a VERY early copy of the DCS: Fw 190 D-9 flight manual. Please note that this is hardly final and is very much subject to change over the next couple of months.

Thanks,
Matt

7 June 2014 Update

We would first like to apologize for the long delay in projects updates. Since the last update from Luthier, there have been some significant changes in how this project will be developed and managed. No longer will RRG be developing this project and Luthier has ceased his involvement in the project with the exception of helping with some manuals. Eagle Dynamics though will be continuing its development and do our best to honor Kickstarter backer commitments. There is nothing more we can say about this change and it is not open for discussion.

Because there are some shared resources between projects (like cockpit systems programming), there will be some impact to our other projects. However, because much of the former RRG team is now employed by Eagle Dynamics, the impact on other Eagle projects will be minimal.

We will be restructuring the DCS WWII: Europe 1944 forums to reflect this.

DCS WWII: Europe 1944 is still planned as a single-package option, or users can purchase individual components to integrate into DCS World.

Myself and Groove plan to provide monthly updates.

As a basic outline, here are our current development intentions:

August 2014 – Fw 190 D-9 Dora
October 2014 - BF-109K
December 2014- Spitfire IX
March 2015 - P-47D-30
May 2015 - Normandy Map with period AI units
Other features like the Me.262A-1 and AI-only B-17G are also in development we but do not have a delivery data estimate at this time until these other features are further along.

In the meantime, Groove and our moderator SiThSpAwN are working to make sure that all backers, based on their level of backing, receive their entitlements.

We fully realize that you probably have many unanswered questions. We are in the process of answering those internally first, and once we do, we will update you.

In this update, we can share some updated images of the Fw 190 D-9 and Bf-109K cockpits. In future updates, Yoyo and other members of the development team will provide greater details about the various features.

Thanks,
Matt

Yes I remember the kickstarter video. I am new into combat flight sim and there is a lot of writing about how good and far ahead Oleg works was. I find it weird that a guy as good as what I've read, just decide that he have enough and go back selling camera. Just curious

There is a lot of water under the bridge with regards to Oleg and the Il2 series.
Firstly, if it wasnt for him, we would not be flying such a great sim over the years.

Things started to go pear shaped with the original COD delays, release etc. I don't have the full story, don't fully understand it, but all the players are involved somehow, and it got pretty messy.
I think he just got fed up in the end.

Oleg's involvement with DCS WW2 never seemed anything more than being a information resource / mentor for Luthier to me. There was never any real clarification on his role and I think it was mostly an exercise in getting a famous industry name associated with Luthier's DCS WW2 project. Once Luthier's efforts didn't work out the whole thing is with ED now and we're probably better off for it to be honest.

I seem to recall that Oleg left 1C prior to CloDs release to develop soem "cutting edge" software for Architects using 3D. Seemed like an odd decision to me, that particular market is cornered by AutoDesk with AutoCAD and Revit. But perhaps not in Russia.

[edit] - just googled it and found this http://clubrevit.com/?tag=oleg-maddox

and their website http://revizto.com/en/

looks like an add-on for AutoDesk's Revit BIM software (BIM = Building Information Management)

and looks like Oleg is their CTO...https://twitter.com/revizto/status/337140579978866688

Oleg left the CoD project long before the first release.

And he took his #1 coder with him.

He had an opportunity with another company and I guess he did not have any more patience for dealing with publishers.

^ Yes, October- November 2010. when he saw that crisis management that was introduced will not bring good results. They needed more time.
And Dimas (that coder IIRC) said he left because he lost personal interest, he wanted other challenges.

Nice reading Sokol, very informative, we can see he was still very eager of that new project at the date of the interview January 2014 .
Thank you
