Pitot heat

Is the pitot heat actually modeled in the latest patch and is it necessary to turn it on?

I've never seen airspeed freeze in our game. I do try to use the Pitot heat in clouds anyway, just for the realistic exercise. I've also never developed a problem when I forget to turn it off.
