Canterbury can be strafed out of existence with 109s and 110s, If you have time after the bomb run or superior numbers. We did this one for the win with only minutes left in he game. We think destroying the red fire trucks below the crane are a key component. Just keep taking out vehicles.

Rgrt....I spent over an hour not being able to either get up at Canterbury or get above 1k when I was up but I didn't give up spawning there...madness really..I didn't care....get shot, get in another one....Sometimes its just a blast to take off at an airstrip that's getting mullered even though you know your time is limited...I took off even when the sky was full of 109s and no spits or hurries....I managed to get a few kills but got killed too...Great fun tonight...I really enjoyed it...

PS..IZ... Checkout the windows guide to get those 'info window' titles removed....

^ I second this, when I fly in a Hurri or Spit on that map it's so rewarding to takeoff unscathed! :D

I joined late last night, had a few scuffles with Lewis, S! nailbiting headons early on:D I really hate head ons from higher position, I can never see the brown menace against the brown shimmery background head on.

After that, I vulched....shamelessly vulched :) but on this map it seems to be common practice for both teams to be honest. At one point canterbury looked like it had 12 smoke stacks rising, good times.

Go for it honey...That's what its all about...Folks have the option to go to a far base and get alt...but sometimes they just want to mash it up and take the consequences...It shouldn't be any other way....Its all in the name of fun...no sweat!

From a bomber pilots prespective, I am happy when we have escorts that have the where with all to get in ahead of us and start airfield suppression before the bomb run and keep the fighters down long enough for us to get the bombs on. Extra time to straf is gravy but fun. If I get that kind of time,I know the 109s are on the job!:salute:

There was a lot of action over Canterbury yesterday. I was patrolling in a Spitfire IIa at 20 Angels between Canterbury and Eastchurch when down below me I spotted a fast-moving 109E4. Should've been an easy target, except the very capable 109 pilot had different ideas. After a lot of very bad shooting on my part combined with continually losing tally on my hard-maneuvering opponent, I finally got in a telling burst of fire. I pushed my luck on engaging a second 109 and almost paid the ultimate price at the hands of a determined G.50 pilot. I ending up running away on the deck like a scared rabbit, with an unidentified RAF team mate saving my cooked goose! :D

Salute to all in this little video! :salute:

Nice to see how others fly the spit...ie.engine management, SA and such...great deflection on the 109 that caught fire...~S~

Thanks, Lew. I find the Spitfire 1a 100 octane and the Spitfire IIa completely different to fight in, based in large part on their different cooling systems. IMHO the Spitfire 1a 100 octane is a better dogfighter below 10 angels; I can get a bit more speed out of it that can make a big difference against a high performance opponent. However, it easily overheats and I find I'm busier than a one-armed wallpaper hanger keeping the radiator from overheating while keeping the engine at max performance and airspeed up. I believe the 109 drivers have similar workloads during a dogfight....not easy while trying to maintain situational awareness. OTOH, the Spit IIa isn't quite as speedy as the 1a 100 octane, but it's no slouch and its cooling system is much, much more robust than its 1a 100 octane counterpart. This is a big plus while dogfighting since its hard to keep tally on a maneuvering opponent while continually checking your temperature gauges and adjusting accordingly. The Spitfire 2a almost (but not quite) allows you to "set and forget" and focus more on your opponent....but you don't have the extra 10 mph or so that the 1a 100 octane can give you.

Above 25 Angels or so and the Spitfire 2a really comes into its own vs the 109E4. The Spitfire 2a and the E4N are a closer match at those celestial heights. I've spent long drawn out dogfights with one or two E4N's at 25+ Angels and it's been pretty hard for either party to get a firing solution...provided no one makes a mistake. :D

Thanks for the insight, Snapper. Very helpful to this newb. I was wondering how you were running 110% at only 50% rad for so long the whole time I was watching your video. No way a Ia-100 could do that at such a high pp! Black windshield in no time...

For sure, Turn! I use Boost Cut Out Override very sparingly in the 1a 100 octane for the exact reason you describe, especially in a climb. :salute:

Really interesting to get others perspectives on how they approach this. I use boost cut out (ie 110%) the whole time in both those versions of the spit (apart from landing / diving / hard manouvering etc). I find its the revs and rad balance that have the biggest impact upon the engine temps rather than boost pressure and so I manage these. in the 1a100 i use lower revs and more rad than with the iia.

Sounds like you guys had fun over Canterbury, just one thing though try and avoid straffing Morrisons as some of us have to get their weekly Rations
you know :doh::)

I'm going to be completely honest, I really dislike this map at the moment. The constant strafing is a pain in the arse, not fun at all (this goes for both sides, but Canterbury has the worst of it). Half the spawn points are broken and result in a tent cutting your wing off as soon as your aircraft is created, and the distribution of aircraft at RAF bases is really random. The Luftwaffe can grab everything from the Ju-88 to the E4/N from most of the England bases, whereas the RAF has a weird hodge-podge of Blenheim-only bases, bases with only 87 octane planes, bases with just a Spit IIa, a Blenheim and nothing else. It's an awful map to fly on if you like Hurricanes because if you don't want to get strafed on take-off at Canterbury, the nearest base with the Hurricane Rotol 100 octane is Kenley, a good 60+ miles away. Not to mention it's yet ANOTHER evening map with poor lighting.

Possibly harsh criticisms, I know, but I'm just being honest. At the moment if this map comes up in the rotation after a mission I've been flying I will simply quit the server and wait until a better mission becomes available. I've never done that before with any of the other missions on ATAG, but this one's an ugly exception.

My one ground kill this month was a spit trying to get off the ground at Canterbury.

Felt bad about it.... like I was clubbing a baby seal. Well....ok......not THAT bad....but still.....I dislike vulching. Just not sporting. :thmbdwn:

I'd much rather sneak up on someone's six and clobber the snot out of 'em before they know I'm there. :D
