From the provider:

Increased DDoS attack activity

The customers in Chicago who are frequently attacked are being hit tonight as well, but the new attacks are much larger than usual and are requiring null-routes because Internap's network is being saturated upstream of us. This is, in turn, leading to brief periods of packet loss for the location as a whole.

Update @ 3:23am CST: These attacks have continued. Primarily a single customer is being hit, and he has dozens of IP addresses that are being targeted one-by-one.

Update @ 3:18pm CST: This customer's null-routes wore off and he is being targeted again this afternoon. A few other customers are also being targeted. As always, we are working diligently on our end to react to the attacks and protect customers as much as possible.

Update @ 4:37pm CST: This customer continues to be hit. We realize how impactful these are to other customers at this location and null-routes are performed instantly when an attack occurs, but the nulls typically take 15 or more seconds to take effect upstream. Please refrain from contacting us about the effects of these attacks, as we are swamped by requests about them and all we can do in the requests is repeat what we are saying here.

Who was the target?

Who was the target?

The internet :D

The server's on the main fiber trunk line of where the internet starts from, so it's constantly attacked. It's just some attacks get through and start trickling down and effecting other people connected on the network.

Can that be the cause of the occasional "Server Time Out"?
