View Full Version : What's different about the Night Fighters?

Just wondering, what sets the night fighter versions of aircraft apart from their normal versions? The only difference I can see between the Blenheim Mk.IVF and Blenheim Mk.IVNF, and between the Bf-110 C-4 and Bf-110 C-4NJG is the paintschemes. And the Hurricane Mk.INF looks and performs exactly the same as the regular Hurricane. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate having night fighters in this game, but what am I missing here?

As for the German Night fighters, they have a red, dim Gunsight.... in contrast to the normal, bright ones...

Night fighters often have changes to the exhaust systems or added body work to hide the light from the exhausts that would damage night vision. The horizontal flange on this Hurricane between the exhaust and cockpit is to shield the exhausts from the pilots eye line.

There is no real difference in the 'night' aircraft currently flyable in the game and the day types... radar systems have not been introduced.

Our night environment hopefully at some point will be improved and made more realistic. (not for TF 5.0)

Vision has been improved through the glass of the Night Hurricane.
There should be a difference in how well you can see between the day and night Hurricanes when flying at night. I can't remember what was changed exactly, but probably opacity and amount of dirt on the glass. Maybe even the amount of reflection. I'll try and find a post about it.
It might only appy to the armoured front glass.

From the TF 4.0 Readme:

" Altered the transparency of windscreen/ gunsight glass for the Hurricane NF version so it does not 'black out' in low light levels (night)
If flown in daytime this will look slightly too transparent but makes night interceptions possible."

The readme is here: http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6319&p=66952&viewfull=1#post66952
