Edit. Posted in wrong section, should be in pilots bar.

This is an 80% replica Spitty (not sure what that means axactly) but look how quickly it comes to a standstill without the obligatory nose over flip......:)! It happened an airfield not far from where I live.

There are better videos but you need to search for 'spitfire emergency landing Peterborough' as the tabloids have bought the best ones.'

80% of an aircraft (or any other percentage) refers to the size scale. In this case the replica Spit is 80% the size of a real size (100% scale) Spit. For example if a full size Spit has a wingspan of 10 meters from tip to tip this one has 8 meters. All dimensional data are scaled by a 80% ratio compared to the real thing.

These Spit replicas are quite well done... the one which crashlanded is an early 80% scale version.

The latest types are 90% scale, have a 430 hp engine and a top speed of 253 mph.

Definitely one of my fantasies... not that far out of reach at around $150,000-$250,000... quite a bit less than the minimum 2 million you'd spend for the real thing. Not to mention the huge maintenance costs for the originals.

Considering what happened to it, it is in very good condition visually. The panel between the wings is the only obvious sign of what happened. If you ignore the prop of course.

It'll be flying soon enough and sounding like an angry Fiesta.
