New to Cliffs, never played it, have been out of the sim game since Il 2:1946 almost a decade ago... bug bit me again and I set up a centre mounted stick for my newly purchased Warthog HOTAS and my MFG Crosswind pedals ( sex for you flying boots)

I'm in my 30's and like to pew pew combat sims ( paticularily ww2) on my off time since they don't let me mount guns on the equipment I fly to pay the bills :)

Wasn't too keen on Cliffs until I heard about all your good work recently.... I was able to successfully download all the patches and everything went according to the install video until.... patch 4.0

this is the screen shot I took of the error:

I am supposed to extract the larger file and run it correct?

EDIT:

I was able to get past the problem, I had the anti virus off but I didnt realize it had a time limit feature.... all patched up to 4.312, tommorrow will be all about setting up my controls and TrackIR4.... anyone running a Warthog HOTAS recommend some settings? I noticed the stick works without a target GUI profile running....

(Please feel free to move this to intros since I have solved my issue)

Copy both files into the same folder and extract Part 1. It will automatically extract Part 2. Cheers, MP

Checkout the 'Beginners Guide'...for info and tips...It will save you a heap of time in getting up to scratch.....and its a really fun learning curve anyway..

Also try youtube for startup procedures on all the aircraft...

I recommend getting in the online server as soon as you can take off if that's ultimately where you'd like to fly...I flew single player for 30 minutes before I took the plunge...The ATAG online server is a great environment to learn and there's not really any damage you can do in there as a new player.....It is also mission based just with real players trying to foil your objectives...If you are concerned then pick an airstrip furthest from the front line (there always is one or two on every map) and get some alt before you go hunting...You'll get tagged a lot but there are tricks you learn out of pure desperation in those first few weeks that you'll be able to use later...I know cos I still use the same tricks I learned then too because they work...and never underestimate the stall to get you out of a tight fix...That sometimes works too...TeamSpeak is optional but you'll learn a whole lot faster with it even if you say very little....

Welcome and get ready to have some serious fun! The change from il2 1946 to CLOD is not that hard, the same combat strategies apply. But the engine management needs a new mind set. If you find yourself requiring assistance dont hesitate to contact us on the forum or TS.

Best of luck!
