To everyone reading this thread, apologies that it is just a short message. I am currently rushing to finish the third part of my Checkertails documentary and am heading to the US with it on the 20th of September for the last ever reunion of the 325th Fighter Group.

I have a load to do and am behind schedule so this was touch and go whether I would be able to put something together...but thankfully Kling put together a short video showing some 'stuff' ;)

So here's the video. have a look and see if you can see any differences in what you have at the moment.....got to say we were all very impressed ;)

I am also attaching a few images of current WiP from the Beaufighter with the details steadily being added.

Its definitely sharper! gun sight for one is crisp, landscape, clouds seem to have more volume and distance, light reflections.

smoke and flames are awesome!!

Wow guys things are looking GREAT! Did you fix the AA further? I sure didn't see much for jaggies, everything looked so crisp. Also the landscape texture popin seemed to be gone as well (had to watch a second time but it sure seemed like the cloud popin was gone as well AWESOME). Lastly YAY SMALL ARMS BULLET HOLES R BACK! Thanks for what you fellows do, I wish I had the skills to help you along. ( let me know when your car breaks down lol best I can offer :P )

It's a little difficult with a video as you can't control your gaze but have the wide distant rivers been fixed? I couldn't see those great shiny canals out towards the horizon.

Im not sure I can spot this specific difference but to me it looks very different in terms of landscape (it looks incredibly, in fact uncannily like England does on a sunny summer day), the clouds are better, horizon is distinct, less shimmer, fires better..... Anyway thanks for the update and its looking great IMO :thumbsup:

I was thinking hard to tell at 720p too! But I think its the approach and landing the height and airspeed was in control and slowed the aircraft pretty quick. Compared to current landings I know I have hard time slowing the aircraft down. Got to start way back on approach.

Yes once I smartened up after I knew what I was looking for I noticed that too. The ground didn't creep along as he flew in one direction. Very very nice :thumbsup:

Were we also seeing Clouds at long/ unlimited distance ?

During the whole flight, but especially after the landing, I thought the clouds surrounding the area looked amazing. Much more realistic.

If so, the immersion factor for this wicked Sim is going to to be going up yet another notch on the meter.

The flying and the "so called shooting" was done by me :(
Unfortunately my FFB joystick decided to disengage the FF just before the first headon attack on the bombers which makes flying and aiming almost impossible as there is absolutely NO resistance in the stick :/

The FF came back just after the second 6 o'clock attack on the Do17 as I climbed up.

I agree with you sokol (hawk in english if i can right recall:)) engine fire is too hollywood for my taste, but otherwise a great improvment in landscape. Right on, Team Fusion!!

I was wondering who was the louzy shooter..now that you explained I understand, I´m on a MSFFBII as well and when you loose the FFB spring is like a liquid marmelade..

Still confused...so much was thrown out that people think changed, not sure what is conjecture and what is real difference.

For the one confirmed change, rivers,....is this change a result of map tools work or visual effects improvement work?

Kling has been working out the voodoo code contained in the shaders and found the one for atmospheric haze. Tweaking some of the settings (well, brutally assisinating them!) we now have an authentic effect that changes with altitude. As Kling is an airline pilot this has been a personal vendetta by him and he at last has succeeded. In the process the fat river effect has also been found and fixed ;)

The fire and smoke effects are always WiP but currently we like them and the flame-out effect looks fantastic IMHO :salute:

As regards a FW-190, P-47 and P-51, well, it's not that we don't want them for V5. 00 but that they don't fit the time line for what we are bringing out. Also, let's not forget they have to be actually modelled....and that takes time and we want to complete the 109 F variants, E variants, Spitfire V variants and other aircraft with bomb loads, and we are a small team of volunteers.....we'll do what we can as and when and we are here for the duration.....except after V5. 00 is out and we'll probably bugger off for a couple of months!

I don't want to say too much about v6.00 because obviously V5. 00 isn't out but as I said before, everything will happen a lot faster after V5. 00 is out due to all the tools being in place. Then it will be just a case of new maps/objects and models (ships, aircraft and cockpits) and most likely these will be released in pairs, so a 51 vs 190 or a 47 vs 190 or G6.....if you see what I mean and a map to go with it....and objects...etc, etc.

We are effectively putting all the blocks in place ready for the future but there is no point in building a fortress on marshland...we need to have granite under everything we build on....and that is what we are currently doing.

I know it's a Ball-ache waiting, I really do....but it'll be worth it.....all I can say is trust our judgment, it hasn't been so bad so-far I hope you agree?"

I like this sim so much I screen grab almost every kill. They that rare! and then photshop and wallpaper my phone PC ipad whatever! Just to see the pretty lights.

How can the "AI gunners are too skillfull" bug have so many votes after watching this video?

A single fighter attacking that many bombers should have been toast!

The only AI bomber that has "snipers" is the He111, the other bombers are OK - you just need to set the values in the FMB.
The human bombers, on the other hand, always gave crap gunners. This needs attention.

When the video was made, gunners were set to average.
When they were set above that, i could not make a video as the plane was shot to pieces before I could even finish ONE attack!

Great Job on all that has been accomplished with this game everything looks great. Nice to see the rivers being fixed, and I love the fact that small caliber bullet holes are represented correctly now! :) As for the flame effects I love them.. I just wonder if there could be more than one variant possibly. Maybe a smaller oil fire..that just comes out of the radiator cowlings. ( not sure if its even possible) The one thing that I really liked but didn't see is fires that were spuratic or flames that tailed off in the smoke. I seen it in one of the other fire preview videos..so maybe it is still there just didn't see it this time . We can never have to many fre and flame variant IMHO.. It adds so much to the game. Awesome job with all of this I love this game! Thanks TF and thanks Kling for the video and the hard work!

Looking fantastic - many many thanks for all your efforts!

A request re weather - if the atmospheric haze can now be altered, how about a "fine but very hazy summer day" setting which can be set when selecting weather for a mission. This is so typical of a British summer as pilots will confirm - a fine day but visibility well under 5 km; a bit like swimming in a bowl of milk.

This had a historical bearing on the Battle of Britain, eg when Erprobungsgruppe 210 attacked Croydon by mistake instead of Kenley on the sunny but very hazy evening of August 15 - apparently at one point they couldn't tell if they were over land or sea (probably flying into the sun also which made the nav problem even worse).

"Sunny with thick haze" is a very different animal to "sunny but clear", but perhaps now is easy to program?

For TF 5.0 we will be changing the default skill level of AI gunners in human piloted aircraft upwards from their current abysmally low ratings to a moderate skill level.

The skill levels of AI gunners in AI planes can be set by the mission builders according to their preferences.

Great news about the AI gunners in human piloted planes! Very much looking forward to it! :thumbsup:

Probably, everyone involved already knows the gunner test video from Osprey (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fn4LJtLdJk) who tested the gunner skills of AI controlled aircrafts. His conclusion was that the different skill levels of gunners do not always make much of a difference. Some gunner positions even do not shoot or hit a thing if they are set to veteran, (few) others act like snipers on rookie level.

A request re weather - if the atmospheric haze can now be altered, how about a "fine but very hazy summer day" setting which can be set when selecting weather for a mission. This is so typical of a British summer as pilots will confirm - a fine day but visibility well under 5 km; a bit like swimming in a bowl of milk.

This had a historical bearing on the Battle of Britain, eg when Erprobungsgruppe 210 attacked Croydon by mistake instead of Kenley on the sunny but very hazy evening of August 15 - apparently at one point they couldn't tell if they were over land or sea (probably flying into the sun also which made the nav problem even worse).

"Sunny with thick haze" is a very different animal to "sunny but clear", but perhaps now is easy to program?

On a different note, are there any news on the atmospheric pressure bug? A few weeks ago there were rumors a possible cause may have been found. Extensively researched, battles re-enacted using IL2 and with huge amounts of personal memories told by the veterans I interviewed on camera as-well as friends who interviewed other veterans for me. So-far this has taken 8-years of.my life and the third part is the final one and I will be concluded after I interview the veterans (maybe only 4-5) who attend their last ever reunion (70th) at Tyndall AFB, Florida on September 24th-27th.

Oh and I've done it all for free out of my own pocket and all of the documentaries are free to.watch or download as either video online or dvd image to burn to disk.

The landscape really looks great. What superstars you all are. Clever does not come near it. Liked the photo taped left of the gunsight. I knew we could do that in a Hurricane, but did not know we could do it in a Spitfire too. Could someone please remind me how to do it?

When the video was made, gunners were set to average.
When they were set above that, i could not make a video as the plane was shot to pieces before I could even finish ONE attack!

Sounds like there is too much difference between "average" and "veteran" when it comes to the gunners.
I know from experience that "ace" gunners are snipers.

Average and Novice seem too weak, but Veteran and Ace too good.... I think that the "average" skill needs a tiny tweak to make them slightly more accurate or aware, and "veteran" to be given a slight downward tweak.

As usual great work!!! a big up for bulletholes and new fire effects...though of course the landascape improvements are what really shines here! the only thing at the moment I'm not too happy are sunlight reflections, I mean it's a great feature is just the rendering feels a bit too exaggerated visually...like if there was too much halo around the lights effect. Looking forward for the patch, take your time, all the efforts you guys are putting in every release are and always be super-appreciated!

Way too detailed and complicated to write down in a post. There's likely multiple bugs affecting power/lift/etc. You would need to understand coding, how the game's engine/aerodynamic files work, plus lots of engine theory, plus lots of historical data.

It's being worked on now and progress is tracking positively.

At the risk of going off on a tangent - the initial batches of Hurricanes to Malta were painted in standard camo (as per the BoB/ France) as far as I could tell when I looked into it a couple of years ago for a campaign I made. Eventually they started to arrive in desert scheme and there was a mix of schemes for a while.

Hi Gruber. The cloud cut in half by the Horizon hasn't been an issue since it was discovered what caused it.

This is from the "Please read before you report a Bug thread" in the Team Fusion forum (answer is at the bottom).

"I have seen those lovely clouds in images posted on the forums, but how do I get them in my game?

To enable extended clouds distance, add "ExtendCloudsDistance=yes" under the "[MOD]" section on the "confuser.ini" file.

Example:

[MOD]
ExtendCloudsDistance=yes

I not sure if I have a [MOD] section, how can I check?

The confuser.ini is located in your C:\Users\(your username here)\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover - MOD folder

Then:
Open the confuser.ini with notepad, hold down ctrl+f, that opens the find box
type in the word "[MOD]" (without the "" marks). If you see it highlighted in the confuser.ini then just put this underneath it;

ExtendCloudsDistance=yes


it will now look like this in your confuser.ini

[MOD]
ExtendCloudsDistance=yes


if when you type [MOD] into the find box it isn't found, just scroll down to the bottom of the confuser.ini and under the last line, leave a space then add:

[MOD]
ExtendCloudsDistance=yes



Now close the confuser.ini and when it asks you to save, choose "Yes". You will now have the extended clouds.

Okay, I've done that but my clouds look like they are cut in half or have 'flat tops', what did I do wrong?

You've done nothing wrong, it's the graphics settings in your game. Go into your Video Options and click on "Show Advanced". Then change the "Land Detail" option to "High".
The clouds are most likely going to cause a few frames-per-second loss, which is why it is recommended to turn them on only if you a reasonably powerful system. If you had your Land Detail set at anything less than "High", it's questionable whether you think it can run the detailed clouds option, but worth giving it a try?

Everytime I see 110s online I see they turning and turning and turning like Hamsters in a wheel, if you do this obviuosly your gunner would not be able
to shot nor to aim.
However I never had this problem, Gunners are Men, just keep they in the right situation to fire and they will do their job fine.
Complained this for a long time.

I don't think Gs are the root of the problem.
I observed many times that there is a difference between gunners in player's planes and AI planes.

Flying a 109, I had no problem dealing with human blennies wandering unescorted, one or two passes, smoke the engines and go hunt something else.
I never really bothered to attack in blind spots as I don't feel the need for it, I never felt that gunners were a big threat.

It went different when I bounced upon a flight of 3 AI gladiators in loose column formation (I believe they were lining up for a bomb run on dunkerque). The one in the tail just smoked my engine from 500+ meters. I hadn't even a chance to fire a single round.

I also fly a lot of bomber missions (mostly Ju88) and I've been shot down countless time with the attacker unscathed at the end. I'm not even trying to dogfight, just a steep dive and run away on the deck. A hurri managed once to make 3 passes carrefully lined up on my 6, shoot me down and get back on his business.

On the other end I went attacking 4 light corvettes in the channel, their gunners opened fire as I was lining up for my second run and sniped my pilot. My friend escorting me in a 109, flying 800m above at that time also saw his pilot sniped a few seconds later.

When playing a quick mission offline (like a bomber raid on london) in external view (autopilot engaged), it seems to me that my gunners are not leading their shots at incoming aircrafts. You see big rows of tracers all passing way behind the enemies. I'm not asking for sniper gunners, because it is not funny for the other team and unrealistic, but if they could land a shot from time to time, it would be less frustrating for bomber crews :joystick: . As it was said, just a matter of leveling AI and players's gunners to the same skill.

I fly the 110 and this might not be applicable to bombers.

My gunner is usually very inaccurate when shooting baddies on my tail. Often his first burst is at least 30 - 45 degrees (it seems) off in azimuth from the bad guy. But every so often he will have a good day and land a few shots. And very very rarely he will pk a baddy pilot.

I can't see any pattern re when he's good and when he's bad. Sometimes if I'm in an extended dogfight with a baddy he gets more accurate as time goes by. But sometimes I will have a bad guy sitting 100m away on my six but he will be looking at another baddie 2 km away on my 4 and not be shooting.

I still like him though - only speaks when he has got something useful to say and is a good listener. His spotting ability makes up for aiming issues in my opinion. But that's because in the 110 I can sometimes take advantage of his spotting to act defensively or offensively. Bombers don't have this 'luxury' so spotting ability probably doesn't outweigh poor aim for them.

I do crazy moves in my 88 because I know my gunners can't defend me properly.
Spits/Hurricanes are taking turns at me doing straight 6 runs and staying there for full 5 seconds while my gunner just looks at them in awe.

Now when I switch to that seat myself I managed to PK 3 pilots in the last week alone just because of their easy tactics..

I'm not saying gunners should be mlg 1337 360 noscope pro's and swatting planes out of the sky like they are bumblebee's..

If a Bofors can pilot-snipe me doing a 400/500kph dive over a field from a good kilometre away, why can't my gunners hit (not headshot) a guy hovering on my 6 forcing him to disengage and try a proper tactical take-down?

ANYHOW

Great update vid, I'm eagerly looking forward to that new landscape.. it's all looking promising and incredible so far :stunned:

I really don't know where you find time to spent for doing this work/models.. They are amazing and almost perfect... Pics shows models that can easy take as an original part of the game..
