I own pretty much every single Civil War game out there, know the history and the battles like the back of my hand, admire the skill of the generals of that era and the bravery of the soldiers, and will chip in some money for this one.

However, don't like the title of the game... "War of Rights"... wrong.

Just call it "1862" or "Battle for Old Virginia" or some name like that.

"War of Rights" is misleading... unless it is supposed to mean the "Right to own slaves", which when you really come down to it, was the only "right" the Southern States were fighting for. Designers need to go back and re-watch the first episode of Ken Burns "THE CIVIL WAR".

I believe the proper non-partisan name would be "The Late Unpleasantness"

I thought the name was a bit odd as well, simply because it's got about a hundred different names and that's one well can't say I've heard. But then again, kickstarter did say Denmark as the location, so maybe it's called that there?

I really wish you hadn't said this though I can see IT is your opinion. I will gladly, in private, discuss this further if you should choose. Or we can just let the dust settle. I by nature shy away from geopolitical discussions in a gaming forum. But since I was born and bred in the South I do take issue with your slave statement.

As to the game project itself, it may have promise. At least the locations are beautifully recreated.

I have taken a punt on this one. There is a real financial killing to be made for a good ACW FPS: something like Red Orchestra for blue and grey.

Now which side to choose: the Union with their good cause or the Rebs and their appealing romanticism .... :S

Wow, graphics look great. Last Civil War game I bought is Scourge of War:Gettysburg, which has Very basic graphics. Very intriguing, but I am still feeling the burn of our dear friends who ran a crowd funding campaign for a DCS add on. I will wait.

Only because this thread talks about the American Civil War......and some here may be interested in this....

....if you are interested in listening to podcasts of interviews with the latest Civil War history authors, I host a website for Civil War Talk Radio with Dr. Gerry Prokopowicz of East Carolina University
...www.impedimentsofwar.org

...over 338 1-hour long interviews are available.

Sorry to be off the main topic, most buffs will not mind, lol!

Cheers!

I have read a considerable amount of books and seen countless documentaries on the ACW... and I strongly disagree with that statement. But let's not get political here.

No matter the title, I think the game is shaping up to be a very interesting product. North or South, Blue or Grey... I'll play both sides. :salute:

Holy crap!

But, they got the stitching pattern all wrong on his uniform sleeve! (Civil War enthusiast humor).

Looking through their rewards......I think they gave away too much.... $8 and you get the game? Seems really cheap and they disappeared really quick, none left at $8 and $12 level. They are only at 30% raised.

I, too, would like to disagree with your assessment of "Southern Rational" behind succession. I would really like to delve into this further, but since being Pro-Southern is taboo in today's society I will, also, avoid this on a public forum (my company has an IT department "surfing" social sites. Only got 1 year left and don't want to jeopardize it).

P.S.

Outside of the many books that I own, I am proud of the fact I visited almost every battlefield of "The Army of Northern Virginia".

I highly recommend we keep this thread about the game.....and not the name, or cause, or politics.

Everybody says they don't want to get into the politics, but yet little jabs are getting put in.

I do not want this thread closed, but it will if it continues.

Back on topic.....the game looks a lot like Arma3! But looks like they are adding "aids" to help define formations. Pretty cool.

Well for the first time ever I backed something on kickstarter. 1/3 of the way there. Plenty of time left, so we shall see.

Yea, I am rethinking it. I may go ahead and support, against my better judgement! Those videos look so darn good!

I may be very wrong in my assessment here, but I figured an FPS is probably a pretty safe bet that if funded would be completed. If it does what it says is another matter, but pretty sure something will come of it. Although occasionally I like to go "what the heck, why not" so even pitched in for the Captain one for closed alpha and the colt walker, don't want to be caught reloading that darn rifle during a charge. Would have liked those 11th MS uni's but wasn't about to put up $190 for 'em. Wish the uniform rewards for backers were a bit more "balanced".

The kickstarter campaign has reached 50% funding and is right on schedule. War of Rights has also gained, today, 'Greenlit' status on Steam!

Well worth supporting fellas, if you have a few bucks for a worthy gaming cause. :)

I was surprised to find War of Rights pegged on here, well done lads!
I've been following and a part of the community over there for a long time now. The developers have their heads screwed on the 'right way' for once and wholly endeavour to faithfully recreate the Maryland Campaign. Be sure to pass on the link to anyone and everyone you know who may even have the fleeting interest in history. The game likely will not be made if the funds are not met, which is a shame as it's just been greenlit on Steam too.

This is the last day of the kickstarter funding campaign. There is also a new Paypal facility available for backers who would rather pay in $US rather than £Sterling.

http://warofrights.com/Crowdfunding

There remains opportunity to pick up the game for $15; if that sounds cheap it is but the quality of the game will likely be very high. :)

Now am I gonna be Yankee or Reb? Mmmm, the 79th NY Inf had tartan trues and kilts but then Stonewall Jackson's Brigade and their rebel yell is a callin' ... :dthumb: :salute:

Funded!

As for group work... For many long years now I've been playing video games with the same group of like-minded friends. We founded the No.504 (County of Nottingham) Squadron (https://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,316379.0.html) here in IL2 to appease our flight simulation itch. We've also been running alter-egos as the Lucky Dogs 'Bande of Pike & Shotte' (http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,217806.0.html) within the Deluge (Polish, 1650's) community, and finally an old group of ours within the Víkingr module (the last two, mods for Mount & Blade Warband) as the Hæringar (https://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,232289.0.html).

The running theme here is that we tend to do things properly, and with a good measure of roleplay* within the period of the game. War of Rights will be no exception towards our endeavour. One of our group has ridiculously deep roots to West Virginia (aside from being born and raised there), and I had the absolute pleasure of visiting him and the State earlier this summer. As such, we'll be setting up a company shortly within the 19th Virginia Volunteer Infantry Regiment, raising the flag for the Confederacy. All folks here would be welcome to join us on TeamSpeak and see Yankee Doodle run blue.

* With all the hallmarks of being drunken fools in the real world. Haha.
