Any idea where you can buy the game? I can remember that I played the game when I was younger.

The 4.0 is used as base for the mod BMS.

You sure about that, it doesn't look like the same thing.

You need the original Falcon 4.0 CD to install BMS (that is like a megamod), or you can get a copy of falcon 4 from gog.
You only have to insert the CD in your PC, don't need to install the original F4.0, BMS installer will do the job.
Take a look at the BMS forum for further info.

You are making me confused LOL, do you need a CD or not?

The BMS installation check if you have the "Falcon".exe during the process to validate the installation.

From Q&A: "In fact, BMS will not be installed on top of anything, it will do a clean install itself. You need to have the original Falcon 4.0 CD during the installation, however.

God, that trailer is hilarious.

"In a world three to four weeks from now, comes the new era in virtual air combat simulations - from the team that brought you Falcon 4.0 BMS 4.32 - . . ."

Might have to finally learn more than just the start up on that thing!

I'm very excited about 4.33.

No other flight sim comes close to the way Falcon simulates a 24:7 war, and it is from 1999. Why no one has improved on it since then is a mystery to me.

Downloaded and installed. Still configuring for my cockpit but ran it a few times and was impressed...even more polished than 4.32. Awesome work!

Curious as to how BMS compares with DCS stuff. I was never really into the modern jet sims, but this does look pretty good.

IMHO exept for the graphics BMS is far away the best modern jet and war environment simulator.

If you want to get a sense of how intense BMS 4.33 is take a look at our squadrons ACMI tape from our weekly flight (1st VFW). You will see human pilots and the campaign engine driving the rest, all types of friendly and enemy aircraft as well as ground forces. There is not a sim on the market that can touch this dynamic campaign.

Footage shot in 4.32, but you get the idea.

Picked it up. It looks like a good sim (especially for the money). Now, I just need to figure out how to use little computers while flying....

you guys know you only need the .exe from the original game to install BMS, and that it can be had without buying the old sim (1998 actually). Right? It's a tough and steep learning curve for sure. I guess that's why they call them "study sims" :stunned:. I've read the old game was originally coded to make use of multicore processor even before there were multicore processors. true?

PS see here (look for the Falco 4.0 .exe link under "Falcon BMS install"): http://viperinstructors.com/main/mediawiki/index.php?title=Install,_Configuration_and_Theater s

BMS is certainly a study SIM. I suggest the fastest way to learn the SIM is to download a profile for your stick and join a group of people willing to help you. Many squads exists and some require that you can work the basics such as ramp start, weapon systems etc but some don't and as they will tell you on Benchmark SIM forum RTFM, Read The F'n Manual! :)

Yes, the manual is a must-read. Remember, Falcon 4 was made when a flight sim was packaged in a sturdy box, complete with a fold-out map, 400 page manual, and keyboard reference sheet. Once you learn the F-16 in BMS you could potentially ramp-start and takeoff in the real thing!

Just started with the 1st VFW. By far the sim is fantastic, Avionics, Flight Model, Weapons Employment it's all polished. And most importantly this is an F16 sim even though they have a good Harrier,Hornet,Fulcrum and numerous other birds. Long live Falcon.

Reading the manual is not mandatory actually, don't scare people off this wonderful sim :) Of course, if you want to know every nook and cranny of the plane by heart, every option of every weapon system (even if they don't get used at all or once in 1000 mission) then sure, by all means go ahead :)

But you might as well learn as you got and you can start flying very quickly and get to know the basics of controlling the plane, radar and most used weapon systems in a flash. Here's an example, install to combat ready in 1 hour: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uU3pmXvnc0k

Of course, you'll only be able to do some things and will need to learn others later, but that lets you jump into the game and start enjoying it really quickly. You'll just fly missions that require weapon systems and other stuff you can use and leave some more complex stuff for later. Basic flying, navigation or shooting AA missiles is really not difficult. Of course, it's a bit "easy to pick up, hard to master" as there will be certain details of these systems that require experience and/or reading the manual or being taught some of the stuff, but the basics are really simple actually.

Also, reading the manual is all fine, but in many cases it's actually better to watch youtube tutorials as you'll absorb information much better this way. There's a buttload of tutorials on YT and everything's well explained. Take ramp start for example, you'll really learn it quicker just watching youtube and the same goes for how to use TGP, shoot mavericks etc. Of course, the manual will explain how it all works in detail and how to shoot mavericks in 5 different ways but you really don't need to learn all that before you jump into the game. Same as with every sim, I do think it's best to learn it in smaller parts, by watching/doing mostly since that's the quickest way.

This is a very good tutorial series right here for example but you can look for specific instructions in other places as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiUYrtpW7ww&list=PL3E09AA94FF0EACEC
Some of the above may not cover new features in 4.33 but it's a good base to start with still.

I am quite surprised and overwhelmed by the depth of simulation and scope of the documentation. One can not only fly the F16, but also the Tornado or Saab (and other planes). This is learning material and fun for a long time (perhaps never ending). Graphics are not up to date, of course, but much much better than Falcon Allied Force I tried years before. I am not so happy with DCS and jet-sims but this is really worth a try!
