Hi all, Update: 28.08.2012

I have been working on the coding of Bomber Command for the past few days. It is looking exciting even to me. It is mostly done and I expect testing to be up on Server 2 next week some time.
Here is a little about the mission so far.

Rich Airfield environments
Dedicated Heavy Bomber, Light bomber airfields
Dedicated Escort airfield
Night time bombing variant complete with Searchlights over targets.
Interceptors They hunt you down.
Human and AI opponents.
Bomber Escort achievements awarded.
Full supply modelling on both sides. If escorts shoot down patrols and interceptors or humans it will affect how many planes come after you in the next mission you fly and thru the course of the overall mission (6 hours).

varification of bombs hitting targets or towns.
Ability to select special missions or random missions if you are in a Bomber
Missions have full briefings
# of bombers must spawn for vaious missions. Or you have to choose smaller misisons.
Long mission flight times. Not everyone is going to make it home.
Opposition advised of primary target They must rely on radar comms to find u.
Missions include moving targets (Ground and sea), factories, carpet bombing towns, docks, ships. Timed targets (bomb before they leave ie, vehicles, trains, ships, planes etc)

Special missions include some timed and some not.
Generals Meeting
The Gauntlet
Blitzkrieg
Working on the rail Road
Death Ally + more
London is burning
Nowhere to hide


A Special Mission example below.


Example: Generals meeting Intelligence tells us British Command are meeting in a secret location. Spies are on ground to locate exact location within the hour. You are to proceed to holding point and await instructions. We know they will be well defended so heavy bombers are recommended with escort.

There is a secondary objective should you achieve or abort the Primary objective.

Gentlemen! You have 2 hours and the clock is ticking.

Threat: Heavy Flack, Interceptor Fighters, possible fighter patrols.

Initial Orders: Take off and head to () you will receive your target co ordinance then.

Primary Target: Group of buildings in Forrest area at () + Possible ground vehicles.

Secondary Target: Flack production facility in ()

Just doing a bit of recon now on missions. Hope this appeals to the bombing community.

If you have better airfields to take off from let me know. It will be restricted to 3 for each side.

Wow Wolf!

If this doesn't work well due to the netcode, you should pack it and sell it as offline missions :D

Oh I forgot to mention this is Coop based. Designed to be flown by 2+ bombers minimum or 2 players in 1 bomber.

1 little feature I am working on is if you are the gunner or at long stretch the Bombadier, that you get registered kills also, not just the pilot. Cant say when this will be in, but writing script now. Lots to think about across other areas of script with this one.

I will leave this till last or later as it may delay release.

If this doesn't work well due to the netcode, you should pack it and sell it as offline missions :D
By this I mean, the coding works fine, it is just the volume of stuff on the airfields giving atmosphere that may be scaled back if we have 25+ people playing at once.

That is the other treat. As more players join it unlocks harder and larger scaled/required bombing missions.

With 'Longer Flight Times', I really hope this unlocks a much wider map area. Just the other day I was flying around testing stuff, and remembered that we're currently using about a tenth of it.

Just getting away from 'English Point/French Point' would add so much interest, and much reduce the 'dogfight server' derogatory remarks from various quarters.

Yes there are missions using just about ever inch of the map. My aim is to really test the skills of pilots and gunners.

Hello all you Forum Yokels and Figgy Duff Lovers!

Quick update: 30.08.2012

I have finished the Coding and architecture of Bomber Command.
The Sub missions you select from Menu will slowly be build over the coming days/weeks but the coding for them is all in place. i.e just have to add the targets and adjust the triggers, write the briefings.

You can run up to 5 different Bombing missions at once, each with dedicated briefings in game.

The good news is I should be ready to host some testing this weekend. I am not exactly sure when. But I will be looking for a couple of guys to jump on and join me in a test mission.

Test will be of a single mission that encompasses almost all coding aspects of each of the missions bundled into 1.

I will advise closer to the time when, but it will be European / US time friendly. :geek:

Basic Structure of Missions:

Heavy Target Missions:
Require 3+ Heavy Bombers, Require Fighter Escorts, 1-2 hour missions, Locations deep into English territory. Attack type: Carpet Bombing. Sites include Areas of London (based on Historic mission targets).

Soft Target Missions:
Require 4+ Fighter Bombers, Require Fighter Escorts, 1-2 hour missions, Locations all over English territory. Attack type: Accurate/Dive Bomb. Sites include, Ship yards, Areas of London (based on Historic mission targets).

Moving Target Missions:
Require 2+ Fighter Bombers or Fighters with Cannons, 1+ hour missions, Locations all over English territory. Attack type: Moving Targets, Accurate/Tree top. Targets include, Ships, Trains and Vehicles. Some missions have timers (Clock is ticking)

LW Special Missions:
Fly Historic missions (small selection with a twist)

RAF Special Missions:
Fly Historic missions (small selection with a twist)
