What am I doing wrong

Hi all , I'm new to cod , so I take off , am over the channel and the engine splutters and after s while dies and I get oil over windscreen . Have I forgot something . Seems to be in 109 and spit . In cockpit of 109. Oil cooler 50%, fuel on , rad full open, pitch 12 o'clock , start engine . All fine . Take off , change pitch to about 11 or less ? Anyone help . Thanks Martin

for the 109 keep the ata/rpm at 2300 ...2200 if you want to be safe when cruising. if you are in an e4 be aware of the bug in auto prop mode. turn off the auto mode and take the pitch down to 10 or so and move it up and down then re engage auto mode.

if pitch is at 11 in level flight with near full power that sounds like would be your problem

In the spit (mk1a100 & mk2a) 2800 rpm, 6lb boost (throttle fully open but without boost cut out override engaged) and rads at 75% is a safe set and forget setting that will give you good speed and allow you to fight without having to worry about your settings - ideal when the game is all new to you.

Also try youtube for startup procedures on all the aircraft...

I recommend getting in the online server as soon as you can take off if that's ultimately where you'd like to fly...I flew single player for 30 minutes before I took the plunge...The ATAG online server is a great environment to learn and there's not really any damage you can do in there as a new player.....It is also mission based just with real players trying to foil your objectives...If you are concerned then pick an airstrip furthest from the front line (there always is one or two on every map) and get some alt before you go hunting...You'll get tagged a lot but there are tricks you learn out of pure desperation in those first few weeks that you'll be able to use later...I know cos I still use the same tricks I learned then too because they work...and never underestimate the stall to get you out of a tight fix...That sometimes works too...TeamSpeak is optional but you'll learn a whole lot faster with it even if you say very little....
