View Full Version : Newbie question re Single Player, Single Mission

I am new to Sturmovik and am having a hard time when I go into Single Player. When I select Single Player from the Main Menu I have the option to then select Single Mission. When I select Single Mission I am offered 6 options (Bomber Intercept - Ships, Free Hunt, Manston, London Attack, Stuka Intercept - Chain Home, and Stuka Intercept - Ships). When I select any of these games I start off in the cockpit and am ready to go (this is what I have my settings set to).

However, if I select the ellipsis at the top of the list it takes me to a screen that then presents me with two options; Multi and Single. If I select Single I get back to where I just was so I get that. If I go to Multi I am taken to another screen that allows me to select Co-Op or Dogfight. If I click on either one of these I get to select other missions. However, when I select any of those missions it never starts me in the cockpit for one, and it seems like it is showing planes other than my own. In one case the plane just started taking off as if on autopilot, joined a group of other planes and then all of the planes crashed. The whole time I had not control over any of the planes.

So the questions are:
1) Why can I not control the plane?
2) Why is the game not putting me in the cockpit per my settings?

Because you open a MP mission in SP mode.

This missions dont have a plane checked "PLAYER".

MP missions need be started trough Multiplayer mode, you can make a session in your computer in LOBBY.
If are Dogfight you are able to "Create" (Spawn in) a plane available in the selected airfield...

In COOP... well, this a "nightmare history", better skip this. :D

Welcome to the community and forums Clay Reitsma...~S~

Sorry I can't offer any advice on SP as i don't play it....Although I would say that there is a lot of fun to be had in MP....For me and many here that is where this sim/game excels...The Multiplayer ATAG server is mission based and so there are objectives to be completed...You get to warm engines and take off...and support bomber missions, fly bombers or fighters...and ultimately its against real players and they are very different from AI...

so...I recommend getting in the online server as soon as you can take off if that's ultimately where you'd like to fly...I flew single player for 30 minutes before I took the plunge...The ATAG online server is a great environment to learn and there's not really any damage you can do in there as a new player.....It is also mission based just with real players trying to foil your objectives...If you are concerned then pick an airstrip furthest from the front line (there always is one or two on every map) and get some alt before you go hunting...You'll get tagged a lot but there are tricks you learn out of pure desperation in those first few weeks that you'll be able to use later...I know cos I still use the same tricks I learned then too because they work...and never underestimate the stall to get you out of a tight fix...That sometimes works too...TeamSpeak is optional but you'll learn a whole lot faster with it even if you say very little....

Checkout the 'Beginners Guide'...for info and tips...It will save you a heap of time in getting up to scratch.....and its a really fun learning curve anyway..
