I got a simple question, which probably have been asked a cople of time, is there anywhere that I can get hold of some of the UV map layout for COD where you can see the mesh layout for the planes ?. To make it a little more easy to find out what is where on the skin :)

Thanks Stefan

Hi stefan_bartram,

Welcome to the forum.

I can't help you with skinning old chap but there are a few very talented skinners around, hopefully one will see this and be able to advise.

Septic.

Here you can find two panel finder made for Cliffs of Dover. One is white the other is in color. ;)

REF 1 ( in color ): http://www.pumaszallas.hu/Private/VO101_Tom/Panel_Finder_by_Tom_2_2048x2048.jpg

REF 2 ( White ): http://www.pumaszallas.hu/Private/VO101_Tom/Panel_Finder_by_Tom_2W_2048x2048.jpg

Here a small quote about their usage took from the original discussion:

My method:
- Open the skin.jpg
- Open the panelfinder.jpg as new layer
- The panelfinder.jpg on the top (layers list)
- Select it, and set the Layer mode to Multiply (Pic1) (http://www.pumaszallas.hu/Private/VO101_Tom/gimp1.jpg).

True, the black numbers less visible over the dark areas. You can solve this problem in many ways, the simpliest, if you put a new layer between Skin and numbers, and you paint with a brighter color over the dark areas. The other ways, you can use mask layers or invert the number colors, but these are much complicated ways to solve this issue.

Here are some basic 'templates' for you., They are not multi layered. You might ask ATAG member Keefyboy regarding that; I think he did multi layered templates for all of the aircraft in the game.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You need to lighten the colours compared to the ones on the templates!! The lighting in the game has changed, so they will look to dark as they are now.
Unfortunately the colour/hue shifts in-game as you lighten the colours, so you need to do a lot of trial and error (lots of experimentation with the colours) to get it right. But it is worth persevering, as the game has never looked better than now. You just need to get the colours right.

Stuka and Hurricane colours you can copy from my skins in the Download/skins section of the forum, they will work well in the present version of the game.

Colours that work well on one aircraft won't work well on others. You need to redo them for each aircraft type.

Welcome to the community and forums stefan...~S~

Checkout the 'Beginners Guide'...for info and tips...It will save you a heap of time in getting up to scratch.....and its a really fun learning curve anyway..

Windows Management Guide (http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3273)

Also try youtube for startup procedures on all the aircraft...

I recommend getting in the online server as soon as you can take off if that's ultimately where you'd like to fly...I flew single player for 30 minutes before I took the plunge...The ATAG online server is a great environment to learn and there's not really any damage you can do in there as a new player.....It is also mission based just with real players trying to foil your objectives...If you are concerned then pick an airstrip furthest from the front line (there always is one or two on every map) and get some alt before you go hunting...You'll get tagged a lot but there are tricks you learn out of pure desperation in those first few weeks that you'll be able to use later...I know cos I still use the same tricks I learned then too because they work...and never underestimate the stall to get you out of a tight fix...That sometimes works too...TeamSpeak is optional but you'll learn a whole lot faster with it even if you say very little....
