I am new to this game and really enjoy flight simming and i am going crazy trying to install patch 4.0 into cliffs of dover. I have downloaded it many times, i use 7 zip, and the zipped file does not contain an installer file like the rest of the patches do. Just a Mod-v40.zip and Mod-40.inst file. Inside the Mod-v40.zip is more files but none are executable installer files. Please help, i am running a 64 bit machine, not sure what is the problem....

Hi Corsair,

Is a known issue that some antivirus detect the installer as a virus so it is possible that the executable is being deleted by your anti virus.
The way around it is to disable the anti virus temporarily while you install the mods.

Welcome to the community and forums corsair1003 ...~S~

Have you followed the video instructions in the Beginners Guide?

===============================

Checkout the 'Beginners Guide'...for info and tips...It will save you a heap of time in getting up to scratch.....and its a really fun learning curve anyway..

Also try youtube for startup procedures on all the aircraft...

I recommend getting in the online server as soon as you can take off if that's ultimately where you'd like to fly...I flew single player for 30 minutes before I took the plunge...The ATAG online server is a great environment to learn and there's not really any damage you can do in there as a new player.....It is also mission based just with real players trying to foil your objectives...If you are concerned then pick an airstrip furthest from the front line (there always is one or two on every map) and get some alt before you go hunting...You'll get tagged a lot but there are tricks you learn out of pure desperation in those first few weeks that you'll be able to use later...I know cos I still use the same tricks I learned then too because they work...and never underestimate the stall to get you out of a tight fix...That sometimes works too...TeamSpeak is optional but you'll learn a whole lot faster with it even if you say very little....

I turned off the anti virus and still having problems.

Along with disabling antivírus temporarily make sure when you use 7Zip to choose "extract to this location" else the 2 files who are required to be togheter, wont. Once you done that you can run the installer.

Best of luck and come back if you still have troubles with it.

Welcome to the online community Flieger!
The whole Stab I./JG 51 wish you to have tons of fun during your online experience!
In the case you will need help to getting started with the game join Teamspeak and you will find a lot of senior pilots available to help you moving the first steps in the game.
Personally speaking feel free to contact any of our pilots ( recognizable by the Stab I./JG 51 tag preceding their usernames ) every time that you could need help we will be more than happy to help you, if in our possibilities!
Normally you can find us on the Storm of War TeamSpeak server ( address: 85.236.101.5:10427 password: stormofwar ) in our dedicated channel ( Stab I./JG51 ) or on the ATAG TeamSpeak server ( Address: 216.52.148.29 no password required ).

Related to your problem: In the case it could be of help in the link provided below you will find all the TF patches already extracted as executable files ( said in brief, already extracted ) in the case that the problem could be generated by the 7Zip file's extraction process or in the case that is difficult to complete the install procedure for you ( with these files once downloaded them ( or the one of interest for you ) you will simply need to double-click on them and they will install by themselves ).

Thanks guys, this is a great game i can see is gonna take some time to master, but thats what makes it so fun, I have gotten the 4.0 patch to work, my anti virus was getting in the way, i disabled it but it came back on toward the end of the download, all is good now except i can't figure out how to fight the right roll tendency in the spitfires and hurricanes. any ideas.

The same applies to German planes.
Use the search button on the top right corner of the main forums page and you will find a lot of threads about this argument that could help you in mastering the roll rate. ;)

An example ( take a look here ): http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4346&highlight=roll+tendency

Rudder trim, boost settings, prop setting, speed..............sticking your arm out of the window.................... Increase, decrease, correct.....be happy for 3 seconds, redo ! :-)

I also found that changing my joystick linearity settings (sensitivity its wrongly called in the games control settings) helps in that you you will find over time that you are subconsciously always making little inputs and adjustments, smoothing the responses out really helps. settings of .50 - .60 and even higher are not uncommon for roll and pitch. more for rudder.

hey booster...

can you expand on this because this is something im still yet to get sorted and im a little in the dark with it TBH... i mean where are the old curve graphs for inputs?? but ok we have these simple sliders now so how does this actually work??

any info would be appreciated old chum :)

The 'sensitivity' sliders are non inearity settings - also known as S curves. Oddly in CloD setting 0 sensitivity gives maximum sensitivity which is confusing at best

In simple terms if you have 0 set you have linearity ie 10% input from your stick / pedals gives 10% deflection to the relevant control surface in game. If you have sensitivity at 1.00 (maximum) then that same 10% input will only give (im making a number up here to explain) 3% deflection to the control surface.

The best way to see it is to set the slider at 0 and move the stick - on the right of the screen you will see two sliders in green - In (input you are making) Out (output in game). Both bars will move at the same speed.

Then change it to 1.00 and you will see the input slider move faster initially than the output slider......and as you start to reach the end of the stick travel the output slider will start to catch up and by the time you have full stick travel it will fully catch up.

I hope that helps - there are many opinions as to what you should set them to - its all personal preference and it depends in part upon what you fly. From memory i have pitch at 0.5, roll at 0.25 and yaw at .75

Gizz, i had just typed *there are many out there who know and can explain the slider settings better than i...." when i tabbed out to go and find one and saw Daves post!! :-)

I have mine slightly different than Dave's but not much. Its a personal thing and could even differ from joystick to joystick (even the same type) dependent on use and age etc. The effect in terms of flying for me has been that the de-sensitisation around the centre point greatly reduces over correction and jerkiness. This in turn means that although im constantly using the stick to keep exactly straight and level (i nearly said using my de-sensitised stick to keep trim --but it just sounded wrong), its a very small, subconscious thing because the gentle corrections are gradual.

That dosent mean not having to trim nose and rudder (these are set up on my POV hat and are constantly being tweaked also) or play with the boost it just keeps things a little more steady overall.

On a few glorious days i find i can get a spit to fly as true an an arrow as I distractedly scratch myself with one hand whilst drinking fine wine with the other. Buts its rare. In the hurri, the best i can hope for is a quick swig of bovril and the bite of a scotch egg before having to drop everything in order to return my view of the world to its traditionally accepted plane.

Also as i dont have a second monitor with Virtual cockpit on im also reliant on the P8 compass. This can be a pain to reset after twisting and turning but less so now my joystick is sorted in terms of linearity because minor alterations caused accidentally whilst looking down are not so quick act on the aircraft and send it off course.

Hope this helps

Regards

That's a very concise and accurate description from Dave.

Im running 0.25 on stick in all directions and 0.75 rudder

0 on throttle (probably obvious !!)

chears guys....

Just had a play with em after cleaning up my rudder peddles, for some reason i was not getting the input/output visual thing before (I.E i couldnt see my controls moving in the options) after i plugged my peddles back in bingo!. i didnt even know that was a thing untill it popped up. as soon as i got that it made sence...

its been driving me nuts since i got in here, i mean i know ive been out of the cockpit for a while but jeez my gunnery was worse than its ever been :( , the wolowing was insane when closing in on a target. ... ill continue to play with the settings and tune things up, going from daves settings im still way to high on pitch and roll, i shall play further :D

chears for the info chaps
