Down loaded all the patches and got to 4.0 and didn't get an install file with the 3 downloads I did(all from same source). Now down loading again from TF site. No Firewall of any kind active. Was able to do it on another computer with no problem. Could it be the source?(s3amazon something or other)
Down loaded from tf site and still no install file.

if the install file is not there more than likely your anti virus or maleware is blocking it.

If it could be of help take a look at the link provided below an you will find all the patches already extracted as executable files ( in brief download the file of interest for you and simply double-click and install them in the correct game folder, nothing to be extracted with these files ).

Checkout the 'Beginners Guide'...for info and tips...It will save you a heap of time in getting up to scratch.....and its a really fun learning curve anyway..

Also try youtube for startup procedures on all the aircraft...

I recommend getting in the online server as soon as you can take off if that's ultimately where you'd like to fly...I flew single player for 30 minutes before I took the plunge...The ATAG online server is a great environment to learn and there's not really any damage you can do in there as a new player.....It is also mission based just with real players trying to foil your objectives...If you are concerned then pick an airstrip furthest from the front line (there always is one or two on every map) and get some alt before you go hunting...You'll get tagged a lot but there are tricks you learn out of pure desperation in those first few weeks that you'll be able to use later...I know cos I still use the same tricks I learned then too because they work...and never underestimate the stall to get you out of a tight fix...That sometimes works too...TeamSpeak is optional but you'll learn a whole lot faster with it even if you say very little....

Hello Infidel/ Team Fusion

Firstly there is some good news (i Think) at the end f this post so stick with it. :-)

So, i tried to replicate Infidel's agony this afternoon. With Av off but firewall on the patch failed to download correctly. With both off it worked fine....................EVENTUALLY.

I had to download twice in the latter configuration before i got both the installer and zip file and no errors. Download times also varied wildy from 12 mins (IMHO - way too fast and probably flawed) to over 2hrs.

This, me at least raises a couple of points about the information provided/being provided across the forums that perhaps needs rationalising. Firstly If TF is certain about it, I think its important that the need to disable BOTH AV/Malware AND Firewall needs to be made clear on the download sites (it currently isnt). Additionally the advice is to disable whilst you install, not before you download as stated in this thread.

That said, Infidel states that their firewall was off and, having experienced a failed download myself i dont dispute it. I even wonder it the firewall made any difference (since its set up to tell me if it doesn't like something i would imagine i would have got a notification if it had have detected a problem on the first download) . Given the number of downloads each month and the lack of reference to the need to disable the firewall as well as the AV I can only assume that the firewall inst a major contributing factor to failed downloads and may only be an issue in certain cases.

Secondly, its pretty clear that stuff can go wrong in the download of this file (i also remember it was a problem for me the first time) from time to time. Whilst its likely to be client side in most cases it still frustrating especially as many experiencing it may not be the most IT literate to start with (remember our average age). I So being told to turn off your AV (whilst admittedly THE most common problem) must be very frustrating and confusing when you know that you have or it clearly isnt the problem. Perhaps some acknowledgement that sometimes stuff goes astray and you just need to persevere would help to reassure and encourage people. I can imagine that having to tell people to do something you've already told them to do must also be very wearing but, as i say, its not always the issue.

Now i did say i think i could provide some good news. Its hardly worthy of news at all really but i am happy to be used as a last ditch resource for the files and can supply them in an unzipped format (well unzipped in terms of unpacked and ready to go) if people are really having problems I understand JG51 Molders is also to do the same. My hope is that between us we could perhaps help by giving players who are genuinely struggling access to the files directly and perhaps take some of the burden off TF in terms of having to reply to the problems. Im also happy to coach people individually if required so that they can enjoy the game in all its current glory, whether this is through meeting on teamspeak or via posts.

As a starter for Infidel here is a link to the installer for V4

https://1drv.ms/u/s!AnRk5ek6XHD78Gzq-RxxeBwgL3m0

And here is a link for the Mod_V40.zip file that you also need.

https://1drv.ms/u/s!AnRk5ek6XHD78HRMOaOP93B6ESS3

Download them both to the same place and run the installer - DO NOT UNZIP the file - the installer will do this for you.

Thanks to everyone for the help. Just coming back to IL2 so probably not the last NOOB question. I successfully downloaded all 5 patches on another computer without turning off AV/firewall. Running Norton on that one. This new one has MacAffee. Did turn both off before last download but found them both back on after about an hour and 1/2. Don't know whether it turns back on automatically after a certain time. Thanks again

Check the programs that are loaded when you turn on the pc...most of the AV are disabled just temporary if you not disable them in the Windows start-up programs loaded when u turn on the pc ;)

The new all in one patch should be out in a few days, so perhaps it will be easier to wait for that and do the whole shebang in one go?

Bet it's your AV software. Disable it before you extract and run patch 4.0.
