Hi,

I'm pretty new to CoD and am looking to join a Squadron. I like to fly the Hurricane and Spits and am based in Kent UK, near the site of West Malling Airfield.

I'm pretty much a beginner so am looking to fly with others and improve my skills!

Thanks.

Ed

Local boy eh?

I live a few miles east of Shoreham Airport. Used to live in Tunny Wells...

Very cool flying over the Garden of England ! Go see the sights along the coastline !

If you get on Teamspeak and just join the ATAG Axis v Allies server.. (server 1) you will find plenty of folk who will help you out. In my experience all VERY helpful.

I'm not in a squadron... I can't really commit to that extent... but if you are flying when I am up I'm more than happy to impart the limited knowledge I have accrued.

What you will find (and maybe already have) is that if you go on the server at reasonably consistent times you tend to see the same names during those times.

Creatures of habit partly... available time mostly !

..... and getting to know them is pretty much automatic really. Very friendly bunch.

so...

When do you normally fly ?

Hi there edster, and welcome. I have been here for a few months now, and I am still not very good, still get shot down just about every time I fly on the main ATAG server, and I still haven't shot anything down. I too fly mostly the Spit, sometimes Hurri and I fly mainly on a Wednesday night. Highseas and a few others join me when they can, so you are welcome to join us if you can make it. We normally go to the flight 1 channel of T.S and although we spend most of the evening crashing on take off and landing / getting lost / getting shot down, we have a lot of fun, which is what it's all about really

Welcome to the online community Flieger!
The whole Stab I./JG 51 wish you to have tons of fun during your online experience!
In the case you will need help to getting started with the game or you want to team-up with other virtual pilots join Teamspeak and you will find a lot of senior pilots available to help you moving the first steps in the game and to possibly find a Squadron that suits you.
Personally speaking feel free to contact any of our pilots ( recognizable by the Stab I./JG 51 tag preceding their usernames ) every time that you could need help we will be more than happy to help you, if in our possibilities!
Normally you can find us on the Storm of War TeamSpeak server ( address: 85.236.101.5:10427 password: stormofwar ) in our dedicated channel ( Stab I./JG51 ) or on the ATAG TeamSpeak server ( Address: 216.52.148.29 no password required ).

Last but not least stop flying that RAF wheelbarrows and join the TeamSpeak 3 " Axis Circus " instead! ( I'm just joking! Enjoy the game flying the aircraft that you prefer! ) :) :) :)

Welcome aboard!

Salute! :salute:

Hey all,

Thanks for the replies and the invites. Going to get TS sorted and hopefully will join up. I'm still at the stage of taking off then spiralling out of control about 20 seconds later when I attempt to make any turn whatsoever so got a LOT more learning to do!!.

Thanks,

Ed

You are probably trying to climb too quickly after take off. I know, I was making the same mistake at first and couldn't understand why it was happening until someone pointed it out to me on TS. Keep the nose down and climb gradually, about 2000ft per min and build up speed. Now, if somebody could just help me with my landings that would be great :)

........and flaps? Hurris and spits dont need them or indeed like them on take off.

Hi edster.

Don't forget 1 degree nose down, elevator trim, on take off and use the rudder to control any yaw due to engine torque! Undercarriage up as soon as you can. Re-trim the aircraft once in the air and as laser said do not climb too quickly. Allow your speed to build up to about 240 and of course adjust the prop pitch and radiator (85% prop,75% radiator) this is good for most normal flying until you get used to it.:D

There are a number of us 'newbies' here all striving to perfect our flying. Get onto a server with TS and have fun.

See you in the 'skies' soon.

Sounds good - I'm getting pretty good at crashing on take off, getting shot down and generally getting lost!!

I think that pretty much all of us have experienced this at the beginning...be persistent, fly a lot and you will improve fast especially if you will be assisted by one of the very good senior pilots available around in the IL2 community and, especially, on TeamSpeak!

Hi Ed.
I fly with both Hurris and Spits on my Squadron in Storm of War which will be starting again in about 4 weeks. That will give you ample time to learn 'the ropes'. I am often in Dangerdogs (Americas). If you see me on line, please dont hesitate to give me a shout. I'd be only too happy to help you along
