Just a taste:
Early last month French resistance fighters outside the city of Hazebrouck confirmed to the Office of Strategic Services of heavy German activity at the Hazebrouck family chateaux. After weeks of surveillance, high profile talks between Luftwaffe high command and Waffen-SS field officers have been confirmed. Reconnaissance photos smuggled out of the area show a massive build up and fortification in and around the aging mansion.

The OSS was able to infiltrate the ranks of the SS guards and give the RAF a look at inside the camp. The confirmation of heavy fortification led us to believe that high profile talks were indeed underway.

Before we lost contact with our agent, he was able to take and smuggle out one last photo which has confirmed our suspicions. Heinrich Himmler, head of the Waffen-SS and Joseph Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda were seen arriving at the chateaux late yesterday afternoon.

After losing contact with our agent, we feared the worst for his fate and gave the order for an assault on the chateaux. We believe that both Himmler and Goebbels left this morning as the attack started, heading for a grass airstrip outside of Cassel. French resistance reported a speeding Horch Type 930 V8 heading North out of Hazebrouck and OSS commandos outside of Steenvoorde confirmed local emergency vehicles were seen heading to a small fire caused by a vehicle accident in the same area. Radio transmissions from the accident scene indicate that one body was found in a burned out car but the second car was empty and the doors open.

Almost ready for server 2 testing.
Briefing coming in the next few days with pics. Maybe today while I wait for my laptop to render Sunday's renders I'll get the briefing posted here.
Targets will include an airfield each, two larger targets bombers have to take out for each side, and two smaller, softer targets that fighters can take out for each side... and maybe a new something something to try out. Start practicing your short take-off and landings in fields skills.

I'll take a look at the spawn points at Lympne, I tested the first 10 and they were fine so maybe you got that eleventh spot. :D
Once the SAR mission is underway, i.e the plane has landed and picked up the agent, you have about 25 minutes to get them to the specific airfield they need to go to. If you get shot or crash, it won't fail the mission right away, the timer will. This gives that side enough time to possibly still win if they only have a target left. After the 25ish minutes though, everyone will get a message stating the SAR failed, and the other side wins.
All the SAR mission commands are in the TAB 4-1 menu, so once you get the message that SAR info is available, you can get the location of pickup. Once you find that location and land, you press the commands again, it will tell you what to do from there. If you are too far away, it will tell you "you must be parked and near the pickup location" or something like that. Both the red and blue side has a car to look for, sometimes its on fire, sometimes not.
The key is you have to be stopped, then you can command 4-1, pick SAR, then pick option 1 which tells the agent to board the plane. Once that happens it will tell you the agent is boarded and the SAR mission is underway, that is also when the timer starts.
Let me know if there are other issues.

I tried the SAR mission yesterday in a Tigermoth (closest we have to a Lysander) and have a couple of questions/observations.

Only bomber types can do the sar. The tigermoth is the only 2 seat type that can't do the SAR. Stuka, 110, ju-88, he111, bleneh, BR20... etc.(?) Good on ya for flying all that way in the ol bird though! Perhaps in a future mission we could use the t-moth and also figure out how to allow more time if a SAR is done with that plane.

This sounds like what might be happening. The messages (most) are intended to be to the player who does the tab stuff only. If the mission comes up again can someone confirm this please? I did some of the scripting for SMs mission and I may have buggered up somewhere, but we'll solve it! Thanks for the feedback on this Mr. Sac.

Thanks for the feedback. Might be cool to see if we could figure out how to get the Tigermoth as a SAR allowed plane, but we would have to adjust the time since it would be a long flight back!
I'm guessing the message is getting displayed whenever anyone Tab 4-1 and selects the SAR info or SAR options rather than something being stuck or wrong.
Hoping to get some time in the next week to fly, maybe this will be on! :D

Then timer runs out.
Tab 4, says rescue in process or signal agent to get out, but not where to take him (may be a good place for a reminder of where to take him if you have the agent)

Are you saying that the message didn't tell your which airfield to take the agent to? Glad everything else is working it seems. Let me know if the message does indeed fail to pop on screen. I know we had it as a message coming across the chat box but we decided to put it on the big display since not everyone has the chatbox open. We changed it for the red side but maybe we forget to make that change for blue?
Oh, and the airfield you go to for either side will have a big hospital compound on it.. that may help. Those hospitals are not on the normal map, but spawn in when the agent is picked up. So if you do have the agent then the other players could help at that point by looking for that, but it should tell you which airfield. Let me know if you may have overlooked the message or if it indeed didnt' show up.

I did some digging and there is indeed a problem with the script. When the player calls SAR Info with tab-4-3, and a rescue is in progress, the player with the agent (and only that player) should see a more detailed message - ie. location of drop off. Anyone else (freindlies who are NOT carrying the agent) should see just the 'rescue is in progress' message. It may be skipping that detail message part for some reason, I'll have to re-adjust that for an updated version.

Yes I tab 4'd to try it it said you are too far away I waited a while and it said the sar mission is under way but YOU do not have the agent . That was then repeated in big yellow letter at top of screen about every 10 min I don't know if others could see the message or not this happened on 9/5/16

Thats a very nice mission and I love the SAR part.
Just one thing: in the briefings you just read that you need a 'non-fighter-aircraft' or 'multi-crew-aircraft' to do the SAR (red). Both somehow fits to the Tigermoth. So a friend and me had a lovely flight across the waves on sundaymorning (and a lot of fun trying to avoid the blues) until we realised our fuel would never last for coming back again.
Well, we should have read this thread naturally, but maybe it would be nice to write that you can do the SAR in a Blennie only.
Anyway, many thanks for your work!

After a chance to play this on the server, I realize now that I must have sent the wrong version of the script file in when I last updated this mission. I'm making some adjustments, including an extended time frame to deliver the agent (couldn't make it to the drop-off in a He-111 in time!!!), some message fixing was needed when picking up the agent, and I've added for reds that a blenheim must be used to do the sar mission. Hope to have the newest version on within a week. Sorry for the foul up..

Spiritus Mortem thank you for you map and passion, I played it for the first time yesterday, I think it's a fresh map and a good idea, new challenge. Maybe it is time to make use of the tigermoth ;)
I got unlucky with few bad spawn spot 4 or 5 in Lympne and Canterbury where you either in high grass and break your prop (Lympne) or I was projected in the air when I started taxiing (Canterbury) that have immensely destroyed my stats and makes me fall into a severe depression :-P

I like this map too. Lots of options for aircraft and tactics. Nice job, thank you.
One question, is the wind speed set to very high ? I ask because I have a lot of problems taking off from St. Omer in a 109. If you set yourself up on the runway it is very difficult to stop a tail spin.
I have sat watching others taking off and they have similar problems, often crashing as I have done. The safest way to take off there seems to be to cut across the runway using the width of the airfield and just hope you avoid any obstacles.
I'm not sure but it seemed like the wind sock would keep pointing at my plane as I circled it in the air....
If you jump in a 109 and try taking off at St. Omer, you'll see for yourself.....it's scary :doh:
If we just have to be extra careful due to the wind, then please add the wind speed in the briefings. Real pilots would know if it's windy before they tried to take off.
Could you please check to see if it's a bug or just high wind.

In case its useful to you map making magicians, Damon.leslie mentioned on comms this evening that when flying 109s on Steamworks yesterday early evening he experienced the 'invisible' plane bug whilst flying with a friend :salute:
No idea if that is map related, but I've only ever heard of it happening in 2 other maps..now 3. It's SM's fault, totally. :-P
I still have to send an update for this, I haven't forgot, just slow..

ATTENTION
Pending server clearance, there will be a test version of this mission running on server 2 through the next week. IF anyone feels like doing a little test flight to pick up some agents, please try it out.
Things to note -
-are the server messages clear, and making sense?
-is there enough time to make it to the drop off in plane type X ?
-anything else seem like it could be improved (focusing on the SAR aspect of things here)?
- if possible, get on TS with another player(s) to make sure the messages work right for those with/without the agent on board.
- IMPORTANT -
There will be a "restart server" option available in the tab-4 menu. IF you press it, it will do exactly that, so use carefully..
*The agents will be available for pick-up after 5 minutes from mission start*
I will try to post pics to help locate the agents tomorrow, and so to bump this thread when the mission is live.

Gestapo shot him? :recon:
Landed at pickup point 10min. after he "spawned in".
Only got the msg "get closer to retrive agent"..
Snarglepuss had a go at it few min. later, with same result.
One question. Is it possible to kill "agent/spawnpoint" with artillery
or strafeing after he spawned in?
Did this mission a week ago (prox). All good then.

Upon further testing, I was able to pick up the agent and drop him off, but the messages are still a bit misleading. I'm gonna have to do a bit of a re-write of some of the code unfortunately. It'll take a couple of weeks :D
Very sorry for the screw ups on this mission. I'll get it right though, I'm determined to make this work properly dammit!!! In the meantime, keep trying it but focus more on the other objectives if it doesn't work for you...

Just a tongue-in-cheek comment. Sometimes missions are perceived as being uneven or unbeatable, like Isle of Wight with a lot of Blues... but I really enjoy some of the challenges. Some might perceive certain aspects as being a bit unfair, but it adds an element of genuineness to the missions.

Yes even if the car is obliterated, our hero the agent was not in it at the time, and should be there waiting with a martini in hand. The important things are to be within 200m (easy) and completely stopped, but you guys have done this before so something must be screwy...

Yes even if the car is obliterated, our hero the agent was not in it at the time, and should be there waiting with a martini in hand. The important things are to be within 200m (easy) and completely stopped, but you guys have done this before so something must be screwy...

I've tried it and failed miserably through my fault, my own fault, my own most grievous fault.......
I found the landing zone after many attempts (where I was intercepted before landing)...
I did make one successful landing in a Stuka:doh: and even taxied up to the car with 2 occupants
I returned next sortie in a BR 20 which was not as easy to taxi cross country in...flipped her in a bog:(

Debrief on yesterdays secret pickup-mission :
Snarglepuss, BR20. DRock, Bf110 nf. Sabrepig, Bf109. Another Bf110..sry, do not remember c/s. Jeepy, Bf110 c7.
Take off Oye Plague. Hdg north at low level. Prox. abeam Deal, Snargle had to let the dog out, to avoid a dog fight.. :laugh:
Down on the wavetops remaining flight flew east of Ramsgate, then west and in to Upstream pickup area.
I wouldn't risk a landing out in the field on my second flight in this plane, but Drock stood up and did a perfect pickup, after we shot down a couple of defenders..:D
Able to sneak out east after a successful takeoff, then south to our destination.
Bad "radio coverage" made us land on wrong airfield.. -and Drock ran out of fuel after landing! :wtf:
-Luckily he was in a fighter version, so he was able to re-fuel.. :clap:
With 4mins left (31 minutes after pickup) He landed safely at destination.
Mission complete, map WON ! :dthumb:

Great read, glad to hear it is fun.
Good map, I like this one. Fun with low numbers in the map, too.
I've picked up both agents a few times now.
Just two things I noticed, not complaints. When taxiing to the German agent, move extremely slow in between the trees. A family of ground hogs have moved in, and they are determined to flip your plane.
Also, when you pick the German agent up, two messages come up too quick. The second message overlaps the first too quickly, and you can't read most of the message.
All I get is 'Return agent to St....' .
We figured it out with good teamwork and recon.

As far as the groundhogs, yea they are out there, I tried to pick decent areas to land and then I taxied all around to try to find those holes and if I found too many, I changed the spot and did it again. I know for sure there is a little jump where blues land the closer you get to the agent pickup spot.
Glad to hear it is working for the most part and fun, I still haven't played it. :(

Hmmmm.... first time I've heard that happening. Sucks that happened, probably really frustrating for you after getting there. The radius is large enough where it should have tripped the trigger. I'll keep an eye on it.
I remember the first time I flew the map, I was able to pick up the agent and I was literally 10 feet from touchdown at Manston and all giddy and a G.50 appeared out of nowhere and PK'd me. I think it was Ribbs...

Hey Baffin and SM - a few of us were on when this happened as we'd been hunting baffin trying to prevent the agent recovery.
Ruff was the 109 pilot and recorded the action. It might be that the video might help trouble shoot this - Ruff might post the video and /or screen grabs of his attack.
Btw We didnt know where u were Baffin until u landed and the landed message came up. Ruff was about 20 km from manston and dove from 4k to try and get u. Seems like we got lucky if the SAR script didnt work.

At the M*A*S*H* unit... Chocks-IN. Engines-OFF. It just occurred to me that the airplane door was still closed... is opening the door necessary?
During pickup in France, there is a significant delay before the agent is reported as on board, but he boarded within 5 minutes with engines running.
Tactically, we learned that any escorting fighters should remain overhead on patrol until the success message is transmitted. This is the weak link, since Fritz always knows our destination and can lurk accordingly. Differing destinations (Ramsgate, Eastchurch, Canterbury, etc.) seems to be a good option. :hpyflying:

As for the differing places, I thought about doing 6 or 7 different submissions which would change the location of pick up and drop off to keep people on their toes. Ultimately I gave up since it took so long to get the SAR script working properly. Still an option though.

My problem was not getting him aboard, but getting him OFF the airplane at Manston. Tab 4 presented no options... simply advised me that a SAR was in progress at the time. Please advise me of the correct sequence of keypresses to offload the agent so I know I have it right.

It has been a while but maybe someone else can reply... I can't remember if you just pull up to the drop off and it works, or you pull up, stop, then tab to the SAR and then select the option to drop off.

The Train shipping facility at Grid AS 27 is driving me crazy! What do I have to do to knock it out? Had been twice there this morning, the whole area was burning. All Warehouses, trains, cranes had been destroyed but I didn't get a server message. Are the ship yard and the train facility not two but a single target?

I really enjoy this map and have successfully completed it a number of times with some great fighter cover. Love the low level navigation and the adrenaline run for home!
However, when the agent is safely on-board, the chat bar tells all and sundry that the pickup has been successful. Just wondering if this can be turned off? This evening I was pilot killed by a 109 as I made my take off run post picking him up despite having top cover.
Both Red and Blue are now very aware of where the agents location is and are effectively 'camping' over the pickup point. The more experienced of us know that if the aircraft with the agent on-board is taken down, then the other side only have to wait out 30 minutes to win the map.
Is there any way perhaps to have the pick up points at other locations scattered around northern France or southeast England? I appreciate that the script may not allow this to work, but if there is the chance of having say 6 different locations for pick up for both sides with only the location made known to the pick up aircraft, then this would put another element of realism into this already great map?
Just my thoughts...

If anyone else wants to make them feel free, Freya can help if he has the time. I imagine the sub missions could just take the ones I have right now and just select all and move them to wherever.

Good news indeed! If I knew how to make or edit mission then I would do so, having never done anything like that before, all I would do is balls it up!!!
The problem with the secret mission is that it is not secret! We go through all our stealthy planning, land, board the agent, then get shot down because of a 30 pitch text that tells the enemy exactly what we're doing! It's no surprise that unskilled vultures simply hang around the secret sight until we complete our secret departure and then terminate our efforts with one or two passes of not so secret cannon fire. Thirty five minutes later, the map ends.
May I request that only the Allied forces receive the allied message texts so that our reconnaissance and planning may bear fruit. If some low-life wants to hover over the pick up zone for the entire game, well he scores one for tenacity if he makes a good intercept. What we have now is a completely unrealistic compromise of allied intelligence leading to disaster after disaster.
Of course, we Allied forces have the enigma codes, so it's perfectly all right to announce the plans and progress of those Nazi B*As&$@ds to the allied defenders! ;)

I never really understood this whole code thing to be honest.
My wife has just been using German for the past 20 years.
In fact it's so effective my daughters started useing it really early on as well.

Thanks for reading... I know that the earlier changes in the mission will require time and effort, but I was hoping the elimination of the Text Messages to the enemy could provide an easy, quick fix. No reply necessary... I'm sure that TFS will get to it when they are able. :salute:
Some days ago Lebano managed to get the agent back home safely. Escorting was great fun and excitement and seeing that other fellow pilots joined the escort as well.

Yup, lot of people helped with the script of that part.
Will need to adjust some missions when 4.5 hits... the trees will make things much harder. They already make emergency landings much more fun and realistic now that you have to locate a good area to put down.
I think the guys are in quicksand.

With the new patch 4.5 a lot has changed. In this mission it is impossible to pick up the agent anymore because of the ammount of trees.
There is no playe to land with the 110...

Our Axis bombers have made a few attempts at the 'Downtown' London targets.
We haven't been able to find the triggers yet. The two red zones have been hit in Westminster and Southwark.
The Blue zone is our next target.

Does someone know what the wind settings are on this map?
I always thought that it is coming from the west with a strength of 2 m/s but after three high level attacks I am quite positive it is coming from east. Tab 7-3 says "090 2".

I've made the update, and will send in shortly. Look for v45.31 in the briefing.
Just a few things to note -
-the pickup spots have changed, check sar info when HQ reports it has the information (~1 hour into mission?)
-using SAR info menu selection - the location details are in there, I want to leave it up to the players to use that info to search out the landing strips so no screenies or extra detail will be submitted by me
-Highly (very highly) suggest that the Blenheim and Stuka are the aircraft of choice for this operation. You can try in other types (Beau and any multicrew a/c EXCLUDING the tiger moth and its variants), but be warned - know how handle a STOL in whatever type you choose. The runways are tricky, short, and rough so taxi slow. I've done several circuits and bumps in the suggested a/c types, it is very possible to do - use patience.
-the 'return agent to base' time limit was extended to 45min (from 35) so if the SAR aircraft is shot down, crashes on take-off, or otherwise finds its doom --> that doesn't mean the mission is lost! (but it sure won't help)
-the boarding range (required minimum distance to the agent at pick-up point) is extended to 300m (from 200) so as to give you more room to turn around for take-off. Just remember you must be stopped within this range (suggest chocks-in, same as the previous version) in order for a successful retrieval of the agent.

mate jumps in the gunner.... same following failure:

To the guys of ATAG: Is it possible, to describe this behaviour in the mission-documentation?

Dostal, did you try leaving the gunner position by Alt+F2 to give it back to the AI before picking up the agent?
Landing zone for Blue Agent North of Ashford needs to be fixed or relocated.
Taxiing to pickup is way too sketchy, and a complete disappointment when your plane flips over in a hole.
It's not worth risking mission to pick Agent up.:ind:

I don't have time to adjust anything, but anyone who wants to can request the files from ATAG, I don't care if someone wants to change the areas or what type of planes can retrieve the agents. My initial plan was to have about 3 or 4 different sub-missions as options which would have different locations for the agent pickup, to keep both sides guessing rather than after playing the mission a few times everyone knows where those locations are.
I’ve seen a few people pick the Blue agent with success.
It looks like the trick is to taxi with a little speed to skip over potholes. Going slow causes the plane to flip over in the uneven grass.
Bullet take offs are the key to getting off the ground with ease.

I've taken part in and witnessed a couple times recently the SAR RED agent failing to board the Blenheim, no matter how close the aircraft is parked. This includes attempting a variety of actions: engines shut down, magnetos off etc without success. These same participants have succeeded before, but not presently.
