View Full Version : Windowed Mode - 1024 x 768 highest level .. WTF?

Ok, testing CLOD I've found that the game runs fine in windowed mode .. but highest resolution is about 1024 x 768 .. WTF ? It's like a thumb nail picture in the top left corner of a 4k monitor.

any chance of fixing the screen resolution in windowed mode, preferrable - 1920 X 1080

Any help appreciated.

Uh?? I can run it at native resolution (1920x1080) in windowed mode

If u open the conf.ini in Documents----->1Csoftclub----->IL2 MOD with notepad u can manually enter in depth and width

Cant remember if this makes things worse of better but as it stretches the image i would imagine worse.. I know some "gamier" types run low resolutions to aid spotting but personally i like my aircraft to look like tamiya and not lego built them. :-)

Windowed Mode - There are also steam launch options for this as i recall but Torian's suggestion is probably the way to go...

I must have had an old INI file setting, way back when on my XT and forget I could reset it.

Game now works like a smooth gem in 2560 X 1440 30 FPS windowed with my SLI's barely breaking a sweat. :)

Fingers crossed no more crashes ..(touch wood)

Glad u got it sorted. The ability to manually modify ini's is very handy at times :)

DAGNABITS!! crashed again

What i've learnt so far is ..

(1) Runs very stable 1024 x 768 30fps windowed = no crashes
(2) Runs fairly stable 1920 x 1080 30 fps windowed = crash occasionally
(3) Crashes 2560 X 1440 30 fps windowed

Conclusion .. I need a new GPU ! have to invest in a MSI 1080 :)

DAGNABITS!! crashed again

What i've learnt so far is ..

(1) Runs very stable 1024 x 768 30fps windowed = no crashes
(2) Runs fairly stable 1920 x 1080 30 fps windowed = crash occasionally
(3) Crashes 2560 X 1440 30 fps windowed

Conclusion .. I need a new GPU ! have to invest in a MSI 1080 :)

Why run it windowed?

Because i have a 4k monitor, and my 580's are having problems with either it or 4K resolution ? not sure which.

Could you just change the screen resolution when gaming? Does that help?

I run it with:
* Game resolution 1280x
* Screen resolution 1024x

Your sig says your OS is Win 7. 32 or 64 bit? Have you considered the upgrade to win 10, while it's still free? I'm thinking memory management issues?
Also, have you looked for the dreaded KB2670838 update for win 7? The OS has a nasty habit of sneaking it back in when we're not looking, even after we've removed it.
With win 10, that's one thing you need not worry about, since it's an IE update, and IE is no longer supported in win 10.

i've reset the 4k to 2560 X 1440 mode but it flickers something terrible, 1920 X 1080 is stable but like playing in minecraft block mode.

I have Win7 professional 64bit, didn't plan to upgrade to W10, maybe in my next computer ?

Will check if i have that upgrade. ok, removed that upgrade, seems stable ?

Funny thing, game plays in windowed mode by intro screen and menu screens are all full screen ??

Because CLOD menu is 2D, 3D interface is turned ON when hit FLY.

Thank YOU! That dreaded KB update must have been responisble for my crashes, removing it and the game runs fine, even at 4K 30 fps psuedo screen mode. Nothing like seeing a Defiant majestically flying over the English country side while being pursued by a colourful Emil.

YES! Thank you all, you've solved my crashing problem. What confused me was that the game seemed to run ok with my 1440p monitor, then it died, I bought a 4K and then the game didn't work so ASS-U-ME'd it was 4k related . I must have also uploaded that virus from microsoft at the same time? :grrr:

But as you can see from the picture, Emil aces still think it's ok to attack Defiants from 6 High ? Back ! to training school :doh:
