So happy! After hunting for this evidence for years... I finally found an audio recording of a spitfire firing its MGs, in actual combat during the war!

Listen carefully from the 1:55 minute mark in this famous recording by Charles Gardner. You can clearly hear a short burst from the RAF fighter's guns.

And YES! it has that crackle/rip sound that is most closely modelled by TF/CloD and pretty much not by another other Flight Sim. It also sounds VERY similar (almost exactly the same in fact) to the live firing (of blanks) that was carried out by the P40 at Wanaka in New Zealand a few years ago:

I'm posting this here partly so I don't lose it again. I am sick of people saying that the MG sounds in CloD are not realistic. This is very good evidence that they are, in fact realistic sounding.

From what I remember reading about it...This was a controversial bit of radio because of the sounding like a game of 'cricket' commentator....and he got the aircraft going down wrong which he said was a Ju87 and was more likely to have been a Hurricane...The British public didn't like it and so this radio clip is rare in that it didn't happened again...

There is info on the net about it...

Check this series...

Ahh the irony.. in that video they have used over-dubbed MG sounds which are "meaner" sounding... but are nothing like the 8X brownings in the radio-broadcast interview they used int heir intro!
