Well after yesterday's problems it appears the patch has been pulled. Lucky you if you never had to deal with the fallout.

In the wake of the patch I have decided to post a small review of what it is probably easiest to do if your game is completely wrecked and a way to preserve your patched version once completed.

FIRST AND IMPORTANT STEP:

Go into MyDocumens/1CSoftClub/il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover and copy the "conf.ini and confUser.ini files somewhere safe (desktop would be fine). These files contain all your key-bindings and screen resolution etc, etc.

Go to Steam and click on Library.

Find IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover

Click Properties

Click Local Files

Click Delete Local Game Content.

Wait for the program to be uninstalled.

Go into your folder here C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common

and delete any Cliffs of Dover files/folders

Go into your MyDocuments\1C SoftClub folder and delete the il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover folder (NOTE. DO NOT REMOVE your "il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover - MOD" folder if it is there!)

Now go back to Steam

Click on Library

Find the greyed out "IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover"

Right-click on it and choose "Install Game"

Once installed right-click on IL2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover in your Steam Library and choose Properties. Then click Updates.
Once that window opens make sure that "Enable Steam Cloud Synchronisation" is UNTICKED

24575

Now go back to your folder here C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common

and find the IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Folder.

Copy that entire folder somewhere else. If you have another drive attached, copy it there, if you don't create a new folder on your hard drive and maybe call it "Cliffs of Dover TF 4.312"

Paste the IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Folder you just copied into it.

Now download the patches (if you don't already have them) from here:

http://teamfusion.theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/

and install them to the IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Folder inside the "Cliffs of Dover TF 4.312" you just created.

Here's a video tutorial:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xewfAma7GJA

Follow the instructions of running the game between each patch install (by launching the game via the 'Launcher.exe' inside the "Cliffs of Dover TF 4.312" you just created NOT by launching it in Steam!!!!

Once finished you will have a fully working version of v4.312 and it wont be updated by Steam updates if another beta patch is released. Your modded Team Fusion version will work as it did before and this folder is the only one that needs to be updated with Team Fusion future patches. You can leave Steam to mess around with the Vanilla folder on your C drive should any future updates become available.

Hope that helps, cheers, MP

Windows 8 and upwards users. Important!!!

If you have Windows 8 or 10 and want to run CloD (Vanilla) you will have to use the Cloder.exe file.

https://www.mediafire.com/?6td6vxnr0aensa5

Download it, unzip it. Copy the files into your C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover (or wherever your default steam Cliffs of Dover is installed)

Right- Click on the Launcher.exe in the same folder and choose "Properties". Click on the "compatibility tab", tick the box next to "Run as Administrator". Do the same for the Cloder.exe file you just copied into the same folder.

I had issues running the vanilla version again. This works fine now.

Cheers, MP

Also for those of you who have installed the update:

Great info. from ATAG_Lewis.

Hows this?

1) Back up your game folder in the STEAM folder on your hard drive...Keep it somewhere else on your PC until you know you have configured this update successfully..
2) Copy your 'confUser' and your 'user' files from your game folder in '1C Softclub'....paste them somewhere for safe keeping again until you know this update has been configured successfully..
3) Start STEAM
4) STEAM will download the update....At the bottom you should see a downloading bar filling....
5) Once it has downloaded.....Click on LIBRARY....then..Click on GAMES
6) Right click 'IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover'
7) Click Properties
8) You now have a new tab at the end of the tabs called 'BETAS'...Click on BETAS
9) Select the beta you would like to opt into:....SELECT......NONE-Opt out of all beta programs
10) Close STEAM (and reboot PC)
11) Start your game to test that the update has not been installed....Game should run as usual

and finally:

Just out of curiosity I deleted my entire CloD install (I have the modded version on a separate drive so no issues as they work fine)

I then deleted local content, and downloaded CloD 'fresh' again.

When clicking on the game tab there is no Beta's option listed. I believe this is due to the new update not being downloaded anymore so the tab is not required?

24480

However clicking on the Steam menu, Properties opens up the following where opting out is available for any game:

ATAG_Lewis mentions this:

Well...Multiple times I tried offline to find the 'Beta ' option in STEAM but couldn't ....so backed up my game from STEAM folder and opened STEAM to see if I could find the 'beta' choice folks are talking about online...and STEAM instantly started updating CLOD without me having an option....So here goes...

EDIT..

Now I have 'BETA' options at the end of my tab list...That must have come with the update..

That's what i did!
i unplugged the ethernet cable
started the pc
i started steam offline
i made a backup of
1) C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover
2) C:\Users\Utente\Documents\1C SoftClub

i tryed to change cliff of dover steam game properties (STEAM>LIBRARY>CLIFFOF DOVER RIGHT MOUSE CLICK>PROPERTIES) to:
not update the game but it won't let you change

so plugged in the ethernet cable
started steam online
to my horror it started downloading the patch
i paused it

went again in steam cliff of dover properties
1)BETAS TAB
and set
NOPE OPT OUT OF ALL BETA PROGRAMS
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2905352/eaf/steam-beta.png

2)Updates tabs
and set
Only update this game when i launch it
(and since i was there never allow background downloads)
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2905352/eaf/steam-beta2.png

launched the game
a pop up continued to download the patch
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2905352/eaf/steam-beta3.png
but then all went well
the game started with the TF mod version...!
Entered ATAG to check and all was fine!

For those who have mistakenly installed this update already...Does this work?......

Can you Opt out of the BETA as above in STEAM....Then 'Verify integrity of game cache' to get game back to vanilla....then reinstall the TF patches...

Does this work?

It did for me and I am aware it did so for others too.

(I had a coincidental hardware problem, which made me believe this hadn't worked but it did).

I use CloD inside of the Steam platform. My TF mods have not been affected to any great extent. Everything appears normal. One minor problem is that the TF Campaign games no longer function. I get an error message informing me that the Regiment is missing or some other reason why the mission won't launch after I select all of the time, place and aircraft variables.

The rest of the TF mods work fine. What might I do about the TF campaigns? I rather enjoyed those. I'd like to play them again.

Thanks!

Question what do you mean" Verify integrity of game cache" how do I do that . right now I seem to have down loaded the patch and set properties up as per Jimmi the vanilla game seems to work and is labeled something like 1.11 . do I now reinstall the TF patches ????? thanks' FOLKS.

'Verify integrity of the game cache' gets your game back to pre-patch or vanilla version....Its the method to use if you have any corruptions in your game folders or anything that you feel is making your game not play as normal...When you do it STEAM checks your system for any anomalies and removes them including the TeamFusion patches....It doesn't change your 'confUser' or 'user' files but it is ALWAYS best to backup those files before you do this....

Here's how you do it....

Verify integrity of game cache

Open STEAM and Go to....STEAM > LIBRARY > All Games > IL2 Sturmovik: Cliffs Of Dover (right click) > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Cache

Once you have done this you can then proceed with the normal patch installation as in the 'Beginners Guide' if you already have them...

This whole process to fully patched takes me around 20 - 25 minutes...

STEAM just released this news...check 'UPD'...

IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover Compatibility Update

The game has been updated to run on Windows 8 and 10. In addition, Russian and Czech languages were added to the international version of the game.

UPD: Since many players reported that the update caused problems for installs with TF mod, it was taken down for now. We'll try to find a solution so they work together.

ATAG_Lewis

So the update has been taken down...What this means to those who are already running it and have problems I have no idea...Maybe they can tells us when they check if their game is running or not?...

Chap called Mars on the STEAM CLOD forum has said this...

Gentlemen, the patch has already rolled back. Just make sure under properties, beta, you OPT OUT and it will basically be like it was before. If you are using TF, you'll just need to reinstall the mod, but everything should be just fine again. I had as much trouble as anybody else right at first, but I was just doing touch and goes on the LeadFarm server. It's not broken, everything's cool.

Just opt out of the beta, reinstall TF, and you're good to go.

So could be just rolled back to as it was before for those that unintentionally installed this monster....Hopefully

Personally I find it extremely coincidental that a game should be patched for the firat time in years to fix OS compatability issues which have occurred since vista now, just as 1c and 777 are preparing to announce their latest expansion and TF continue to prepare to release TF5. Especially since said patch appeared to bork people's install...

The only thing that was new last night, but maby it is mission related was, that i got in the info windo for radio ( voice ) this:

"Achtung Adler 1!!, drehen Sie eine Platzrunde" = "Attention Adler 1 !!, turn a traffic pattern". Never ever got this before. Was on Final Push with an E4/B from Caffiers.

one of my teammate`s kills his game, as he abort the update my other teammates run it and had also no problems, so maby its the problem to abort it?

I just did the update now through steam.

Win 10

I did backup my 1CSoftclub folder and the steam/steamapps/common/IL2 folder as well just as a precaution. My 1CSoftclub is in the default mydocuments space but the other is on a separate drive already. (Just zipped them both up in case)

Opened Steam and it immidiately started the IL2 update.
Let it run through to completion (150 or so MB)

For good measure checked the beta tab in the library for Clod and it is there, but was defaulted to 'NONE opt out of all beta programs'

Started the game and it ran no problem, connected to Leadfarm and all seems to be working fine.

Success Update! Here is a "Step by step" account of my bare re-installation...

Run everything as an Administrator!

1. About 4 hours was required with a gaming ping of about 40 where I live in Virginia, USA. CLodder was not required. I did not even download it.
2. Windows Control Panel: I Uninstalled IL-2 Cliffs of Dover. I left steam alone.
3. I moved all CLoD folders by renaming them with a preceding "X". This drives them to the botton of the file explorer list but keeps the files intact. Example: "1C SoftClub" renamed to "X1C SoftClub", "IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover" in Steamapps\common\ renamed to "XIL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover".
4. I restarted the machine to let it re-read the Windows 10 registry and to satify paranoid inner needs...
5. I started Steam and logged in.
6. In Library, Right click "IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover", left click "Properties", then "UPDATES" tab.
7. I set Automatic Updates to "Only update this game when I launch it", and Background downloads to "Never allow background downloads".
8. Right click "BETAS", select "NONE-Opt out of all beta programs".
9. Right click "LOCAL FILES", "DELETE LOCAL GAME CONTENT", confirm the decision and it will uninstall in a few moments.
10. Restart Steam in Library, right click "IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover". "Install" option should now be available. Click on it and go wash the car and watch a movie.
11. After all that downloading and installation, the original installation would not start at all! Out of frustration, I installed the TF patches anyway, just as described in these forums using the "Run as Administrator" option. After successfully installing Patch 3.00, the game started normally as well as after each subsequent patch. I ran the game until I could see the version number in the lower right screen. No need to spawn in before exiting. Basic installation was complete.
12. The "1C SoftClub" folder appeared in my root directory (C:\) instead of the C:\user\Baffin\Documents location like it always used to do for me. I only mention this so that you may be ready to hunt it down if it is in some unexpected location for you. Windows 10 has a lot of file display options that can present files where you may not expect them.
13. The controls, video, audio and settings, etc., are reset to original. I wanted to adjust mine manually, just to clean things up but you may want to copy your .ini files back to restore your preferences.

Run everything as an Administrator!

I have something odd happening, yet I waited until now, the day after the patch was pulled, to run steam having not run it fortunately the day the Steam fiasco occurred.

I launch Steam and it says updating, doesnt say what, but I have seen it doing this in the past and assumed its updating its adverts and other stuff.
Installing update it then says, doesnt say what.
I am Win7 64bit pro and unlike No.401_Speed(YO-R) who has Win 7 I did not get asked if I wished changes to occur.
I run MOD 3.0 and a spitfire Mk1 and I have sound crackles and pops , a right old mess of a sound, and see the airscrew control lever moving to and fro, what the heck ??? not seen that before or heard that sound issue.

Close that and run MOD 4.312, again the merlin sound doesnt seem right and the airscrew control is madly moving to and fro over maybe a half of its entire movement possible., even more so than in 3.0

What has Steam done ?

I have the entire folder set backed up as I was having to rebuild the data drives, I also sensibly backed up the 1softclub folders as well.

Would copy pasting them all back in solve this ? or is it a question of undoing what Steam has done to the registry. ?

I also backed up C drive as well expecting the worst, so maybe just reinstate my Acronis backup, but then what ?

It will happen all over again ?

Steam definitely did something tonight to mess up my MODs.

I have sent them this data via Steam Support and get what must be an automated response within seconds of submit, saying to :-

Please restart your computer and then follow these instructions to refresh your Steam files: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3134-TIAL-4638
Once completed, please verify the game's files: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

Now according to ATAG_Lewis that will check for anomalies and remove them including TF patches. oh hells bells.

As I have 5 folders copied from D:\Steam modded to 3 3.01 4 4.3 and 4.312 and I have it all functional after many hours installing, it takes a good day to install all the mods, for this approach, not 25mins, and I have just finished doing so, should I do this robot reply ?

Will it in fact look into D drive, surely it will look at C and not find Steam ?

HELP PLEASE,,,what to do now ? How can this have happened after patch pulled ?

You can also disable auto updates for each Steam game in your game library.
I have them disabled for Cliffs of Dover, while it tells me there is an update it is not downloaded or installed.
Just go into your game library in Steam, right click on Cliffs and Manage Downloads.
And I always close the Steam window and launch the game with Launcher.exe, never from within the Steam GUI.
At least so far mine has not tried to update...

I didn't ask for or need this update... but it installed anyway even though theres a note saying it was made unavailable because it has caused so many problems!

I (BOBC) received an email saying to follow the link then verify game, I have asked them what if its on D drive. and what happens when I next run steam, as I have looked and see I have a Beta tab, and it is set to Opt out of beta program, I never set that setting, Steam did ! and if it was set to Opt out, why did it install ???????

and got this mess despite that.

Does anyone know if the Beta tab and setting, for what use it is, ignored it in my case, gets stored at Steam HQ, for if I reinstate my Acronis backup of C to get out of this mess, will it receive that Beta tab and maybe stop an update, or will it yet again install an update then apply the tab ?..if so I am in a vicious circle.

Thank you very much MP for your guide.

Steam surprisingly installed this shitty and totally useless patch today after one week of not using steam at all.
Thought it would only trigger the install if i had choosen to participate in some beta program (see patch notes). But didn't do that.

Two hours of downloading and installing it all from scratch. My Steam Backup was also of no help - steam installed the patch again after restoring.

After following your guide i now have an independent installation and hope that future updates (TF5.0) can be installed on 4.312. Nearly, because steam still has to be running when launching il2 via launcher.exe.

A solution similar to falcon bms would be nice. BMS checks for the original copy of falcon 4.0 for copyright reasons(steam or other install) at startup, but then runs independent and unaffected from steam.

You can leave Steam to mess around with the Vanilla folder on your C drive should any future updates become available.
Here i would like to add that - as a further step - i deleted the vanilla local game content in steam after everything was set up to safe space and it still works.

Solution used so far,
I reinstated C drive from an Acronis backup made just prior to running Steam. I then deleted the 6 folders on my D drive which are the MOD variations from 3 to 4.312 as well as vanilla CoD, also deleted the Steam folder on D drive from where the vanilla CoDs were copied to make these.
emptied recycle bin, then copy pasted these back in from backup made just prior to the Steam warning and prior any update. I am back in time prior Steam patch now.

THEN DISCONNECT PC FROM INTERNET !

Run Steam, it says 'updating Steam', then it says checking available updates, then could not connect to the steam network.
either check your connection and click retry or start steam in 'OFFLINE MODE'
I click offline mode :D

Launch the MOD 3.01 for first test, took longer to see the MOD , (why is that ?) but it runs, and all is good !
Test 4.312 and again after some time, it runs.

No strange white arcing on props, or popping spattery sound for the default spit or spit mk1 engine.

However, and seen as an issue, as it shouldnt be happening, but now this must be the MODs at play, that airscrew control is stable for the most part of tests of Spit 1 and ll in MoD3.01 or 4.0 or 4.312, and is jittering fore and aft over anything from 10 degrees to 80 degrees of movement in some throttle settings or all, depending on MOD/Spit combination. I shall post a thread on what happens and where, as this isnt right. It wouldnt stop at all though during the session after Steam installed something.

I cant go without internet for long though,

Steam community also observed:-

a poster says I disabled Auto Updates and Background update

and a reply says How? I doesn't have this option anymore.

I also dont see anything other than an option to keep game updated, so they took away the option to turn off updates.
Given whats happened they should return that option. This is more than just trying to help win8 and 10, I am win7 and dont need fixes not aimed at me.

So unplugged ethernet seems the only way ? No, I am now stopping steam and valve using :-
http://superuser.com/questions/363540/how-can-i-block-a-program-from-accessing-the-internet
and Kaspersky firewall settings, saves grovelling about under the table.
Until they fix the problem this is.

You don't need CloDer if you install the MOD.

Vanilla would not run for me until I installed the 3.00 patch. Then, all the patches installed as admin with no problems. RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR!

Just to be clear. If I have not started Steam or CLOD since 2 weeks ago, it is now safe to start both? Is there anything I should change in my Steam properties, i.e no beta updates? I just want to make sure it is safe to use again? Thanks in advance.

Hi Blade.
Check my post and you'll see where to disable Beta updates in Steam, rather than in CloD. Image shows where to disable Beta updates for all games. If you want to be ultra cautious, pull your network cable, boot steam up (have to change to offline mode), change the setting as shown to not allow beta patches.
Plug network cable back in and then change the Steam back to online.
The Patch may still download...but it wont install.

Cheers, MP

Hi Little_D looks like you dodged the bullet then :) The patch is no longer online, this post is for those whose install got destroyed by it and who want to make sure they have a working version to refer to after patching :)

I would say the patch is still Online as it just updated for me this afternoon?

Again my steam settings are to not participate in Beta but there was a push update for me today that broke the TF patches. I hadn't launched Cliffs for awhile but something got pooched just today?

Clearly something is still not quite safe so Valve need to fix this situation, who is in touch with them ?

Meanwhile I am unplugging network cable until all is declared 100% safe and no one reports in as per above post, what a pain.

I havent had a reply to my support message to them as yet.

I recall posters complaining of Steam before I even bought CoD, now I know why.

Hi, I've done everything on page 1 and I still cannot get the vanilla to work on my machine (Win10), had a look through this topic but cannot find the help I need. All I'm getting is, well nothing. I've tried from inside the file and from the desk top and from steam but all I'm getting is the spinning blue wheel for a few seconds then zilch. I know I've missed something but what? Thanks in advance.

Don't even try to get vanilla working. Install the TF-patches right away....

The vanilla game will not work with Windows 10 unless you install their update... and if you install that, you will screw up TF's patches.

So just install the vanilla, then go to the instructions in this thread:

Where can I get the CloDer.exe, please? The link in Mystic's post does not work (marked as dangerous by mediafire).

I have got a new rig with Win 10. Downloaded the vanilla game from steam and when starting I get nowhere; even though permission for the app is given permission.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,
Is it safe now to make steam online again as I set it to offline mode when this debacle occurred and I had to reinstall all my mod versions I run. I have not gone with steam online ever since, running CoD in steam offline mode ever since with great relief, and cannot face having to redo everything all over again for my 5 MOD versions.
I have yet to get CoD operational as I want it as I keep getting knocked back to square 1 on the gameboard so am scared to alolow Steam to go Online. Hate Steam...what a nasty arrangement to be dictated to my such a body.

I have a game I purchased and need to make Steam online in order to install it, going to library and r/c IL2 and properties, there is no way of turning off the drop down list that has no options in it apart from keep game up to date for IL2 CloD.

How does one stop Steam messing up all my CoD installs or has that update truly been pulled as at the time, hearing that it had, then launching steam, it proceeded to install update and wreck my CoD.

Safest way to make sure your game folder isn't messed up is to follow the instructions I posted in the first post of this thread.

Copy your working game folder (not cut and paste) to another location and follow the instructions. Honest, it's why I wrote the post.

Hi,
I have backed up the conf.ini and Confuser.ini from the MyDocs 1CSoftclub original install folder, there is also there the same address with -MOD on end of name , folder created after first MOD gets installed, so to be sure I have also backed up the Conf.ini and confUser.ini from out of there.

I dont have C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Folder.
I do have D:\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Folder. as I followed forum poster advice to install to D.
I run all 5 mods for comparison and testing as well as original having copied out this folder to D then modded each accordingly.

I do have D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover_0_original
D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover_3.0
D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover_3.01
D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover_4.0
D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover_4.3
D:\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover_4.312

as such I have D:\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Folder to back up 5.12Gb followed by the MODs, each 5.12GB !

I can see what your plan did , its done what I already have done, put CoD in a different address to what Steam looks for. As such maybe I am safe and always have been ! It wouldnt look on D drive !

As I dont have 30Gb or so of spare space, I might be ok, though I have backup drives for each of my drives yet to be used as I am trying to find a backup copy paste with append type prog as opposed to one that stuffs everything into one file.

This game is so screwed....I can't even play. This game will not boot. My new Alienware Aurora R5 with Directx 12 will not even play it. I have spent the better part of TWO DAYS downloading and deleting and patching and googling...I am so d*mn tired of it!!!! I almost don't care if I ever play this flight sim...I am an multi-year IL-2 Sturmovik player....I loved that flight sim. I bought this new Cliffs of Dover and have never been able to play it....what a ripoff. I guess I'll just stick with Sturm....at least it still plays on my old computer....
