I met a chap yesterday called Bill Lucas. He survived 81 combat missions in Wellingtons, Stirlings and Mosquitos.
Sat with him in his house with him showing me all his old pictures and flight logs. Genuinely humbling.
He is also the oldest surviving olympian and competed at the '48 olympics.
He told me he would have been in his prime for the '40 and '44 games but the war put paid to that.
In his words "Hitler denied me the chance to compete at the olympics in my prime, so I went and bombed him".
Hats off to you sir!

The oldest surviving British athlete of the 1948 London Games was robbed of a gold medal by the Second World War – but he refuses to be bitter.

Gutsy Bill Lucas, 95, who ended up getting a medal for his flying heroics, told the Mirror: “I had a good war instead.”
