game wont launch even with patches

I am so sick of dealing with this game and these worthless patches,i will never play on steam again,ive had this game for over a year and only managed to be able to play it one time,this isn't worth the dam trouble.

Hi

The game works fine in both Win7 and win 10 with the TF patches - you dont need anything but the stock game from Steam so just opt out of any of the betas offered.

You cant run the game at all in Win 10 without first installing patch 3.0- after that the game will run so that you can update to the remaining patches.

The current position with the patches and updates no being offered via stream is unavoidable and historic but, thanks to the hard work of both 1c and Team Fusion will hopefully be resolved very soon.

ATAG is a community forum - it is not owned, funded or sponsored by the original game's developers - Venting your frustrations here is pointless

TF have until now been a dedicated group of volunteers making the best out of a flawed release with limited (read No) external support

Whilst a game not working is frustrating, there a plenty of people here willing to help you sort it (indeed there is ALL the information on doing so here already if you care to read it).

This is a good starting point that has helped hundred if not thousands of people of all ages and capabilities to get the game up and running:

Checkout the 'Beginners Guide'...for info and tips...It will save you a heap of time in getting up to scratch.....and its a really fun learning curve anyway..

Also try youtube for startup procedures on all the aircraft...

I recommend getting in the online server as soon as you can take off if that's ultimately where you'd like to fly...I flew single player for 30 minutes before I took the plunge...The ATAG online server is a great environment to learn and there's not really any damage you can do in there as a new player.....It is also mission based just with real players trying to foil your objectives...If you are concerned then pick an airstrip furthest from the front line (there always is one or two on every map) and get some alt before you go hunting...You'll get tagged a lot but there are tricks you learn out of pure desperation in those first few weeks that you'll be able to use later...I know cos I still use the same tricks I learned then too because they work...and never underestimate the stall to get you out of a tight fix...That sometimes works too...

TeamSpeak is optional but you'll learn a whole lot faster with it even if you say very little once you are on the server...You are quite welcome to just listen if you feel more comfortable with that....so you don't actually need a mic either...Try it and see!...

The oblivious (to us) things are not always so obvious to others and its perhaps a measure of what people see in the posted online vids of the game that they then find themselves in a frustrating loop of wanting play but not being able to. Clearly the OP does wish to try the game. Clearly there are some problems preventing this.

Hopefully, they may come back and see what response their post received. Hopefully then they might see that what the game lacks in its present state in terms of simplicity in the set up (in comparison with some other titles in the genre) it more than makes up for in the helpfulness of its community and the chaps at team fusion and that things are going to get a whole lot better even still.

To date - the OP has had a response from 2 developers and a senior ATAG community member (thats you Lew BTW). That says a lot about the positive attitude here to new users (even angry ones).

And......as long as they then dont start whining about the trim in the hurri, the offset revi sights, the flight model of a 109E4N at exactly 16254ft in the historically accurate atmospheric conditions for 0917hrs on the 5th August 1940 over 63 Acacia Ave in Deal........I shall also remain my good natured, calm and supportive self.......until the effects of Christmas and fine cheese have worn off at least.

Windows 10? I bet you need to instal and run the game from cloder.exe

Hi guys,

Newbie here. Have unsuccessfully tried to launch game for the past two days on Steam. The best i can get is the golden plane with the letters MOD over it. It just hangs there for hous and nothing more.

Have tried uninstalling / reinstalling steam
Verified game
deleted cache
followed instructions and tried loading with cloder.exe and even as administrator
I have tried loading the patches one at a time but it just hangs he golden plane with the letters MOD over it. Then even tried loading all patches but still no good.

I am using windows 8.1 (recently updated from windows 8) 64bit

Would so love to get this working. I have read almost every thread and followed so may instructions.

I don't know if it will help in your case, but I set up a desktop shortcut from the game's .exe to launch from. I start steam, then close it (it continues to run in the background) then I start the game itself from it's .exe. Works every time. I'm using Windows 10.
I don't start the game from steam, in other words. I just need to have it running in the background.
The .exe called Launcher.exe, should be located in (whatever drive you installed to) /SteamApps/common/il2 sturmovik cliffs of dover/Launcher.exe

You haven't also installed the small "beta" patch that is on steam have you?

You dont need it and it messes stuff up.

Hi Guys,

I have been using launcher.exe and I did install the BETA at one stage but I uninstalled steam and reinstalled and verified but still no joy.
I'm thinking about reverting back to windows 8.

My system was originally windows 8 when I first tried installing the game patches. The first two patches worked and the game started up but when I tried to install the 3rd patch 4.0 all the apps to open that said I needed to have windows 8.1 (this was before I learned about 7-zip) Soooo I updated to windows 8.1 and continued adding patches and that's when the problems started.

As I've said I unstalled steam...started from beginning again but after installing the first patch I don't get any further than the MOD on screen.

Something simple is preventing this from starting.

Appreciate your help.

You installed each patch, started the game, then installed the next? In sequential order?
If you are attempting to run any overlays then remove them. Team speak, Overwolf, steam overlay (Clod generally hates overlays). I doubt its steam but my moneys on its overlay. = remove
Run final .exe as administrator
Post system specs (perhaps its soemthing there.)
Also post where you got those patches. Lews links are good. Other sites may contain a bad patch which is screwing you up.
Post the patch numbers in the order you installed them. (maybe your missing one)

and installed them in order as listed (attempting to run launcher.exe after each mod)
MOD 3.0... 389MB
MOD 3.01 Mini Patch... 11MB
MOD 4.0 Complete (Both files in one)... 2.1GB
MOD 4.3... 571MB
MOD 4.312... 130MB

As I said it wont even launch after the first patch, it just hangs with the MOD logo over the cross hairs

Hey Guys,

I GOT IT WORKING!!!!

I opened Steam
Right Clicked on Game
Under the General Tab I Clicked to disable "the Steam Overlay while in-game" as SC-Sp00k suggested (Thanks so much!!)
I then opened my Steam folder "C:/Program Files (X86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover" and clicked on "Launcher.exe
and it WORKED!!!

Thanks so much guys...will try to install the rest of the patches now and see how it goes.

I've just SUCCESSFULLY finished installing all the patches (in sequential order) and it is WORKING PERFECTLY.
After the third patch 4.0 the improvement in the graphics was amazing.
Now that I have all the patches installed, the game looks beautiful and I can't wait to get stuck in.

Next step now is to calibrate controls etc..
