Very doable with practice, good aim and as with anything in the sim, a wee bit of luck. ;)

I always deliberately 'tried' to pick one engine first then the bit between the engine and the fuselage going for a fuel tank.
AP in the mix helps a lot to mess up the engine good, Incendiary ammo results ymmv, I'm not convinced they even work tbh.

I think I messed his controls up badly. I got a cut in the head but no worse because I could still fly fine through the red tint of blood. :)

No worries, Nursie will sort out that scratch for you back at base no problem.

Heres an oldy, but with the E4.

AI?

My rear gunner would cut you in half if you parked behind me.:-P

Yup AI on the server from memory.

Be sure as a 109 pilot you realise very very quickly the difference between AI and Human gunner.

More and more pilots are getting good at rear gunning. If you get good enough, you don't need escorts, and you can't wait for someone to engage you.

I realized the importance of the rear gunner position one day when I found ATAG_Torric going feet wet at Lympne in his 88. I dove down from his high 7 in my Spitfire and he caught me with a PK more than a half kilo out. A golden BB, but accurate shooting none the less.

The gunner positions will get really interesting with the introduction of the Wellington.

Like I said that was an E4 with canon in the vid, but you can certainly do heavy damage to a bomber with a E1 on a single pass if you get it right, as per Rich's post.
I fly/flew E1 99% of the time online.
Rounds on target (and you have lots of them) = lots of damage.

With big targets like bombers you don't pack the punch in the E1 but if you can sustain the attack you can do noteworthy damage.
Obviously flying Rotte is better as one guy keeps the top gunner busy while the other one tries to take him out, then go for the kill.

Its the nice thing about this game, every attack is never really the same, weigh up probability and risk

Same with bouncing Spitty's, either cockpit aim or left wing oil rad in an E1. See the black smoke or pk the pilot and move on, he will go down quickly, Water rad he will fly, glide and fight for a fair distance.

As for pilots/players getting into rear gunning, yeah, that vid was like 2yrs ago or so, and Snargle and co. started to play unfair since then with human gunners a lot more hehe, Just not cricket :)
But the Luftwaffe adapted.

Actually, muli-crewed aircraft like that, its awesome when they are flown that way.

The worst for an attacking pilot is a good formation with pilots with good nerve and Human gunners with good comms.
The fire is so concentrated its actually quite difficult/deadly to get really close, you have to employ some tricky and time consuming maneuvers to get in and get out in one piece, and you don't always have the time.

There are numerous accounts of this by WW2 pilots attacking formations which pretty much amount to trying to run around in the rain without getting wet, that's how intense it was.
