View Full Version : THE BLENNY BITES BACK! - 17th JUNE 2000UTC SERVER 1

BOO
May-22-2017, 10:06
Hi

So the "Boomer Blitz seemed to go ok. Next time its a RED affair so to your Blennies men!! It goes without saying that regular BLUE pilots are welcome to sample the delights of the Bristol Aircraft Company's finest!!

Several key differences to the last - first we are likely to have our little friends from Saturday against us, so ill be looking for lots of fighter support and actively engaging this!! Ill also be using the time to try and speak to a number of experienced pilots about target selection in each mission so that we may have a better plan at the turn of the server.

I'm going to my level best to give this raid the best chance of success. I hope you can join us!!

A fuller "thing" will follow when Im less hungover

A few years back my buddy got an old Dodge Charger to drive at his wedding. It was a 'General Lee' version from Dukes of Hazard, complete with no swinging doors. Window entry just like the Good Ole Boys.

The bride's exact words were, "ya, I'm not getting in that."

BOO
May-30-2017, 17:05
Just a bit more on things and stuff.

Whilst the last event was fun I suspect some of the RAF fighters had more of it than us poor bombers. Leading you all into the jaws of death on the first mission was, in hindsight, not exactly what I had in mind.

We are doing a lot of work to give the Blennies the best chance of at least making it to the target this time. We are developing at least one plan for each server mission so there will be less of a "ok-where?" nature to the next get together.

BLENHEIMS

If you are thinking of flying a bomber on the night I urge you to get a few hours in it and make sure you can:

Start and roll out quickly

Manage the engines in a climb and at altitude

Adjust the Alt, Speed and Slip on the Bombsight

Understand and use the auto pilot and adjust course using the Directional Giro adjustment

As before we cannot say for definite what the type of bombing will be until we see the map but if it comes to level bombing we will have an experienced lead who will be able to advise us on the settings to input into the sight.

If you can set controls to use the turret, do so.

As well as taking Blenni bombers I thought it would also be fun to have a few Blenni Fighters in the mix too. If this appeals to anyone please PM me so I can put a list together. There will only be a few so if any selection is needed it will be done on experience in using it as a fighter rather than inexperience of using it as a bomber if you know what I mean.

RED FIGHTERS

If anyone wants to take an active fighter role we would welcome it. I will see if I can get a fighter channel set up if its needed. Those of you who like to fly in squads or groups are likely to be given specific duties if you are up for it. The raid really will depend on fighter co-operation so again, if you think your group or squad would like to take an active part, please PM me and we can discuss how best to employ.

BLUE FIGHTERS

Bring it on! - no quarter asked - none given. Seriously, I really hope that the blues can put on the defensive show equal to the red's last effort.

TIMINGS

We will start roistering at 1930 UTC (2030 London Time) on the "Boomers Casual" channel in the ATAG TS (at the top of the squad list). Hopefully we will be blessed with a server mission start at 2000 UTC (2100 London Time).

I Hope to see you there!!

Regards

Good Morning

Well with just over a week to the assembly ("event" is too grand a title) I'm interested to so just how many of you who use the forum are thinking of taking part as either a bomber of an actively involved RED fighter. Its only an indication for me and so there is no commitment but it would be good to know some rough numbers.

So..... - if you are thinking of flying a BLENHEIM - could you click a LIKE for this post

If you are thinking of flying a RED FIGHTER in support of the bombers (that could bee sweeps, escort, interference) - please could you click the DISLIKE button.

No need to comment or post a reply.

Jun-15-2017, 04:19
Hi,

With a couple of days to go before the raid I just thought id give you some idea of what to expect on the night.

Firstly - this is not an "event" as such. So there are no special dispensations given on the server. Last time the gods smiled and a new mission started more or less at the time we set for launch. This was a fluke. Quite rightly ATAG will not pull running missions for our sake. This would be unfair on other players.

So, just like the JG4 monthly flights, we go with what we are given. If there is enough time to fly at least one mission before the server turns, we go. If there isn't (say if there is less than 20 or 30 min) - we can either shoot the breeze or arrange to re-muster when the new server mission starts. Either way, there should never be more than a 30 min wait.

Its looking pretty good for fighter escort at the moment too so I think we can hope for a strong defensive provision to and from target. To help me co-ordinate with any fighters, I will likely be asking for a couple of extra channels in the TS if its possible to make whispers possible without interfering with players on the main Allies channel. One thing for sure - I have no intention of hiding us from either Freya or TAB 7-1 if we have cover :-)
simply because I want as many people as possible on both sides to see what I hope will be a decent spectacle.

I hope to see you all on Saturday!

S!

MISSION ANNOUNCEMENT

Hi, Guys.

As some of you know, Boo is not feeling very well. He had hoped to join us, and lead us Blenheims to victory.

Unfortunately, he will be AFK for a few days.

He asked if I could hold the fort for tonight, and take lead of his Bombers. Will do.:salute:

Yes, it won't be the same without Boo, but we need to stay in practice. So let's not disappoint Commander Boo.

In approximately 1 hour, be prepared to take to ATAG's skies once again.

Amazing sorties!

In the first one I more or less had to watch the very successful attack of the Blenheim formation from the far six. I would have loved to play a more active role but at least had a great sight.
Later there was a massive clash in the Boulogne area with Blenheims, Spitfires and Hurricanes approaching low and plenty of 109s attacking from altitude. As a "quickie" from this attack:

Great night guys, The Blenny boys won the day  , there was action for everyone from deck level bar brawls to high altitude jousting, bomber hunts, duels, chases, everything!

You could take off on one sortie and spend half an hour dicing in contrails then take off again and straight into a mass dogfight!

Might be the windows 10 joystick reshuffle issue. Windows 10 reorders your USB devices during certain updates, hibernation wake, or when you plug them back in a different order. You can mitigate with the last two, but updates are a stinker.

Unlike other sims, CLOD uses Windows' generic joystick number assignment name and not the USB device's PID serial number (or other hardware serialization), causing the seemingly random scrambles. I've also been hearing about users having problems with Warthog HOTAS.

My ISP went down on Saturday from lightning and they barely managed to get it up again before the meet. :smash:

As Zeb said about the peripherals being caused by Win 10.

Try this fix by Snapper. Think it might clear up the problem for you.

If not, there are several threads under the "peripherals" and similar headings that might be helpful.

Great fight yesterday.

Unfortunately, without Boo some of our coordination efforts were lacking. Still, it was good fun, and good to keep our bombers in practice.

I estimated our Blenheim losses around 40.:ind: this was a direct result of our fighter support being overwhelmed. The handful of fighter escorts had a hand at winning the map, but we need to get these guys some help. Dedicated escort flight and long range interceptors will have to be improved for sure.

Our ability to taxi, take off, and collect is getting better every flight, and this has increased our sortie numbers allowing for more destruction. Airfield mishaps have dramatically dropped, too.

We may have won this battle, but as far as stats go, we would not have won the war. That will change with every future mission, I recon.

Hopefully, we get some good videos of this attack. There were so many large battles this time around. Everyone on our comms were having fun, and at the end of the day, that's what motivates me to be a part of this.

Thanks to all who participate and make this community a better place.

Cheers,
DRock

Here's some screens. Looking forward to editing when I get some serious flu and can't work. :)

I did find out seeing my replay and that of others that the hits I could definitely see on my replay did not show up on server or other's replays. My guns didn't even fire on Kiwi's replay (this one's of a half-cuban whilst firing my guns...in my dreams). ha

BIG thank you to Drock and the inner collective for making this happen in my absence. Thanks also to everyone who took part. Looks like a missed a doozy! Hope you enjoyed it.

I'll gauge the feedback from everyone over the next week once I back up and running on at least 2 cylinders and see how we can continue to with nights like this.

Perhaps next time either Stuka Loopy or an Italian Job?

Kind Regards

BOO

Both ideas sound interesting ...
Personally, I would also like to participate in a big Me110 event!:hypnotized:

Would it be possible to collect some ideas and suggestions?

I too would enjoy a big Me110 event. Caught this one over French Point during the first raid on Calais. Me110 was not pleased. I lol'd.

My suggestion? Stay the hell away from the front of my Hurricane if you see the guns firing or you might never get home!

Thanks Boo for organizing this, and DRock for leading! I had a blast the whole way, and that first sortie was especially magnificent with a solid mission plan, good formation and fighter cover getting us in on both targets. I also think I accounted for the only takeoff foul-ups; I ended the first sortie with controls disabled and flying on trim, and forgot to re-center it before starting the 2nd. Lesson learned, 'check trim' added to my start-up checklist.

I will be pleased to take part in any more of these you do, especially Red-side.

Haha!

May be my dear, but if you should be in front of the guns of a 110, you are probably shredded with your Hurry... ;)

So, I've managed to grab some screenies from the first Sortie (only another 3 an a half hours left to go through).

I put em in an album rather than clutter this thread up too much, link is Boo's Boomers Part 1 (https://goo.gl/photos/UXcqimyW41W7BVAv9)

For the Blenny nerd-noobs like myself out there concerned about burning up engines or keeping up with the formation, I added some additional data (which is probably more art than science, ha) in the main "How to fly the Blenheim" sticky. Sounds like, despite some hilarious setbacks, things are getting a little easier for the air bosses up there. ;)

Cheers.
