CloD AI is "famous" for their little will to fight.

At long time I am trying make a specific SP mission, but due those :grrr: C++ scripts things always goes south, I give up, eventually remember, try again, give up, rise and repeat, and years goes. So I have tested the combat part of this mission, that work OK, dozen of times.

To give the player a chance to win - "against all odds", I set AI skills lower, but not that dumb "aerial target" Rookie of most CloD Quick Missions, and some of the enemy planes - Bf 109's, using only that Beoch..thing ineffective ammo.

OK, today trying - again - set some mission details on ground, I leave the player plane in autopilot, and time after, when generally Bf 109's have disengaged and run for home, I take control of the plane. But this time notice that one Bf 109 still near, chasing my AI wingman, so I try help the guy, and after get close that Bf 109 disengage and zoomed up.

My plane are now low on ammo, so I take control of the wingman. The now AI leader of flight declares low on ammo and RTB. :D

I stay flying in the area looking for some other details of the mission (the part that never goes like I want), then I was jumped by that Bf 109, I manage do avoid their fire but are not able to catch then since he climb for ~8,000 feet, so give up and forget then.

A little latter here's he again... and again. I find strange their persistence and take a screen shoot at 6:05 PM, and the things goes, the AI always boom and zoom, until at 6:29 PM he probable end out of ammo or low on fuel and take heading for home, allowing me damage then.

As now I have deplete all ammo I leave the plane in autopilot and change the camera for that Bf 109 and notice another curious thing, two other Bf 109 that supposed should have landed in their base are awaiting for that Bf 109 in the next waypoint all this time and start "escort" then back, until he crash landing due lack of fuel or coolant.

Are a bit of RGN in AI behavior, sometimes few Bf 109 engage, or even none, other times they are more aggressive, and now that pesky "hardhead". :salute:

Ai is being rewritten (and Radio Commands) for v5.00, hopefully the fun you have with v4.5 while we get this massive task improved will help take the edge off the pain :)

This has been the single reason I havent flown COD very much since the intitial release. If TF gives us a believeable, lethal, determined AI I just dont know what I'll do with myself.

Probably dogfight CR-42s in my Glad till I'm found dead at the controls from lack of sleep/nutrition...................

Rant over.

Bless you TF!

Not all ai is stupid or incompetent. Try the twc tactical Server you may be surprised! see how many missions you fly before the incompetent AI shoots you down.<S> Fatal

4.5 won't be fun if the ai is still as buggy as it is now.Decent ai changes would be the only thing keeping me interested in the sim for any length of time, and being purely a bob fan I would like to be interested. As well as the fact that I would have to pay 1c twice for something that should have been in the game to start with, not a prospect I would relish. All that said, I do respect the selfless work team fusion has done to date.

edit: I hope I don't offend anybody with this posting, but I purchased this much anticipated sim when it first came out, and the nonsense that I went through trying to get it to run, and patch fixes that did not happen, as well as the bad PR on behalf of 1c is still a vivid memory.

I can only hope we are NOT "paying 1C twice" inasmuch as TF has done 100% of the work to bring this sim to a state we all incorrectly hoped it would have reached shortly after initial release.

I for one intend to purchase any update TF offers for sale. Although the Battle of Britain isn't a primary field (I'm a PTO kinda guy) of interest for me, I am optimistic that with the upcoming improvements (both extant and announced) this sim will give even newer flight sims a run for it's money in terms of realiasm, attention to detail, and immersion.

Hang in there, Rince. I think we're all in for a very pleasant surprise with the upcoming releases of 4.5 AND TF5.

I got pilot killed on my first sortie :) AI can drag and bag or so it seemed.
